{"id":333989,"date":"2025-07-09T08:47:19","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T13:47:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=333989"},"modified":"2025-07-08T18:28:44","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T23:28:44","slug":"born-months-early-landon-home-year-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/born-months-early-landon-home-year-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Born more than 3 months early, baby Landon is home after a year in the hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/premature-baby-boy-goes-home-for-the-first-time-after-spending-382-days-in-hospital\">Right to Life UK<\/a>) After spending over a year in hospital, a premature baby born three and a half months early has finally gone home.<\/p>\n<p>Baby Landon was born after his mother Mikayla\u2019s waters unexpectedly broke at just 16 weeks gestation.<\/p>\n<p>As it was so early in her pregnancy, Mikayla was not sure that this was what had actually happened until doctors confirmed it during a scan at 23 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>After almost two months in hospital, Mikayla gave birth to Landon, her first child. He weighed just 2lb 12oz and was diagnosed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/pulmonary-hypertension\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pulmonary hypertension<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lung.org\/lung-health-diseases\/lung-disease-lookup\/bronchopulmonary-dysplasia\/learn-about-bpd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bronchopulmonary dysplasia<\/a> due to his underdeveloped lungs. Landon also had to undergo a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/tracheostomy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tracheostomy<\/a>, where a tube was surgically inserted into his windpipe, to assist his breathing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfterwards it was a little scary because they had to keep them paralysed for a week to a week and a half so that what they created doesn\u2019t get damaged\u201d, his mother <a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/wcyb.com\/news\/local\/miracle-baby-survives-382-day-hospital-stay-after-premature-birth#:~:text=%22Afterwards%20it%20was%20a%20little%20scary%20because%20they%20had%20to%20keep%20them%20paralyzed%20for%20a%20week%20to%20a%20week%20and%20a%20half%20so%20that%20what%20they%20created%20doesn%27t%20get%20damaged%2C%22%20said%20Vannoy.%20%22That%20was%20really%20scary%20because%20they%27re%20on%20paralysis%20drugs%20and%20seeing%20your%20kid%20like%20that%20is%20very%20scary.%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cThat was really scary because they\u2019re on paralysis drugs and seeing your kid like that is very scary\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baby Landon had to spend over a year in hospital<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Baby Landon spent his first Christmas and birthday in hospital. His mum, Mikayla, <a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/wcyb.com\/news\/local\/miracle-baby-survives-382-day-hospital-stay-after-premature-birth#:~:text=%22It%20was%20very%20difficult%2C%20it%20was%20really%20hard%20knowing%20that%20this%20is%20a%20first%20for%20my%20kid%2C%20most%20kids%20are%20interactive%20with%20everything%20and%20they%20want%20to%20%5Bsee%5D%20fireworks%20and%20seeing%20%5Bthem%5D%20for%20the%20first%20time%2C%22%20added%20Vannoy.%20%22Landon%20didn%27t%20get%20to%20experience%20that%20because%20he%20was%20in%20the%20hospital.%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> \u201cIt was very difficult, it was really hard knowing that this is a first for my kid, most kids are interactive with everything and they want to [see] fireworks and seeing [them] for the first time. Landon didn\u2019t get to experience that because he was in the hospital\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, after all their struggles, 18 days after his first birthday, Mikayla and her fianc\u00e9 Dez were finally able to take Landon home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just amazing how much of a miracle he is because in the beginning, the doctors were talking about when he was born he probably wouldn\u2019t survive after birth\u201d, <a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/wcyb.com\/news\/local\/miracle-baby-survives-382-day-hospital-stay-after-premature-birth#:~:text=%22It%27s%20just%20amazing%20how%20much%20of%20a%20miracle%20he%20Is%20because%20in%20the%20beginning%20the%20doctors%20were%20talking%20about%20when%20he%20was%20born%20he%20probably%20wouldn%27t%20survive%20after%20birth%2C%22%20said%20Vannoy.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Mikayla.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember seeing my son for the first time, and it was a magical moment\u201d, his mother <a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/wcyb.com\/news\/local\/miracle-baby-survives-382-day-hospital-stay-after-premature-birth#:~:text=%22I%20remember%20seeing,they%20are%20okay.%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing else in the world, you don\u2019t see a child [who\u2019s] premature, you don\u2019t see he was intubated, you didn\u2019t see any of that\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou see a perfect angel [who\u2019s] yours now, you are the sole protector and you will do whatever it takes to make sure that they are okay\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Baby Landon was able to spend his second Christmas at home with his family.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson for Right To Life UK, Catherine Robinson, said: \u201cWhat an amazing journey for baby Landon and his parents, from his mother\u2019s waters breaking at just 16 weeks to finally being able to go home after over a year in hospital.
