{"id":33382,"date":"2013-04-15T11:35:12","date_gmt":"2013-04-15T15:35:12","guid":{"rendered":"\/news\/?p=33382"},"modified":"2013-08-15T23:18:24","modified_gmt":"2013-08-16T03:18:24","slug":"what-health-care-92-of-planned-parenthoods-business-is-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/what-health-care-92-of-planned-parenthoods-business-is-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"What health care? 92% of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s pregnant customers get abortions"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-19111\" alt=\"Planned Parenthood Clinic Sign\" src=\"\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/planned-parenthood-sign-300x167.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"167\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/planned-parenthood-sign-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/planned-parenthood-sign.jpg 424w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>For such a proud defender of the \u201cright to choose,\u201d Planned Parenthood notably chafes at the suggestion that its primary business is abortion.\u00a0The organization&#8217;s spokespeople have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2012\/01\/03\/planned-parenthoods-abortions-are-just-3-claim-is-false\/\">laughably claimed<\/a> that abortion constitutes just 3% of their services &#8211; yet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2013\/01\/08\/92-of-pregnant-women-at-planned-parenthood-get-abortions\/\">LifeNews reports<\/a> that Planned Parenthood\u2019s 2011-2012 annual report shows that 92% of the pregnant women who come to them receive abortions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">LifeNews also report several astonishing findings from the Susan B. Anthony List\u2019s analysis of the numbers:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: .1pt; margin-bottom: .1pt; mso-para-margin-top: .01gd; mso-para-margin-bottom: .01gd; mso-list: l5 level1 lfo1; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">During fiscal year 2011-2012, Planned Parenthood reported receiving a record $542 million in taxpayer funding in the form of government grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements. Taxpayer funding consists of 45% of Planned Parenthood\u2019s annual revenue.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: .1pt; margin-bottom: .1pt; mso-para-margin-top: .01gd; mso-para-margin-bottom: .01gd; mso-list: l0 level1 lfo2; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">In 2011, Planned Parenthood performed a record high 333,964 abortions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: .1pt; margin-bottom: .1pt; mso-para-margin-top: .01gd; mso-para-margin-bottom: .01gd; mso-list: l4 level1 lfo3; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">Over the past three reported years (2009-2011), Planned Parenthood has performed nearly one million abortions (995,687).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: .1pt; margin-bottom: .1pt; mso-para-margin-top: .01gd; mso-para-margin-bottom: .01gd; mso-list: l1 level1 lfo4; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">Planned Parenthood reported a total of three million clients in 2011, meaning that 11% of all Planned Parenthood clients received an abortion.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: .1pt; margin-bottom: .1pt; mso-para-margin-top: .01gd; mso-para-margin-bottom: .01gd; mso-list: l2 level1 lfo5; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">\u00a0In 2011, abortions made up 92% of Planned Parenthood\u2019s pregnancy services, while prenatal care and adoption referrals accounted for only 7% (28,674) and 0.6% (2,300), respectively. For every adoption referral, Planned Parenthood performed 145 abortions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: .1pt; margin-bottom: .1pt; mso-para-margin-top: .01gd; mso-para-margin-bottom: .01gd; mso-list: l3 level1 lfo6; tab-stops: list .5in;\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">\u00a0Cancer screening &amp; prevention services and contraceptive services provided by Planned Parenthood continue to drop. Contraceptive services have dropped by 12% since 2009, and cancer screening &amp; prevention services have dropped by 29%.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The numbers are consistent with the <a href=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/new-planned-parenthood-annual-report-confirms-abortion-makes-up-91-of-pregnancy-related-services\/\">previous year&#8217;s findings<\/a>, which found that abortions made up 91.2% (329,445) of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s pregnancy services, with prenatal care coming in at 8.6% (31,098) and adoption referrals at 0.2% (841). While Planned Parenthood\u2019s adoption referrals more than doubled, it and other legitimate medical services still represent a tiny sliver of their business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As SBA List president Majorie Dannenfelser points out, \u201cPlanned Parenthood has upped the ante even further by mandating that all affiliates provide abortions beginning this year,\u201d so we should expect the kill-to-care ratio only to grow even starker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Whenever its taxpayer funding is endangered, Planned Parenthood trots out all the harmless services that would be impacted. But SBA List notes that the abortion giant \u201c<span style=\"mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;\">reported $87.4 million in excess revenue, and more than $1.2 billion in net assets.\u201d<\/span> In light of how little real care Planned Parenthood actually does, it\u2019s clear that cutting down on cancer prevention and prenatal care rather than abortion would be its choice in the face of restricted income.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Of course, pro-aborts have always played fast and loose with the significance of percentages to the debate. Despite abortion constituting so much of Planned Parenthood&#8217;s work, we can\u2019t cut its funding because of all the women we\u2019d supposedly doom to breast cancer. But we\u2019re <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">not<\/i> supposed to care about late-term abortion or fetal awareness, because most abortions take place earlier. Then again, the 1% of abortions due to rape <i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">are<\/i> so incredibly important that we can\u2019t talk about prohibiting abortion without the conversation getting derailed by shrieks about \u201crape babies.\u201d<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Like the Mafia and Tammany Hall providing social services to provide cover for their real objectives, Planned Parenthood is a massive chain of butcher shops, whose interest in women\u2019s genuine wellness is merely a product of political necessity.
