A disturbing report from a non-profit organization in Canada revealed that over 100 late-term abortions were committed in just one province, in one year \u2014 and roughly one-fourth of those children were born alive.<\/i><\/p>\n

    In an op-ed for the Western Standard<\/a>, Pro-Life Alberta executive director Richard Dur called attention to the disturbing report<\/a>. Despite being the fourth-most populous province, behind Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia, Alberta had the third highest number of late-term abortions committed, at 105.<\/p>\n

    Ontario and British Columbia both had significantly more, but the number of abortion survivors were highest in Alberta.<\/p>\n

    While Ontario’s late-term abortion attempts saw 9% of its victims survive, in Alberta, it was a whopping 25%<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    British Columbia did not report if there were any live births following late-term abortions; other provinces, like Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, and Manitoba, did report that some babies survived late-term abortions, but in much smaller numbers.<\/p>\n

    According to the report, the most common gestational age range at which babies survived in Canada was 21-24 weeks. On average, micro-preemiesborn at 22 weeks reportedly<\/a> have a 28% chance of survival in the U.S.; at 23 weeks, a 55% chance of survival; at 24 weeks, a 68% chance<\/a> of survival.<\/p>\n

    Dur noted in the Western Standard that any baby born before 23 weeks will not<\/em> receive life-saving measures in Alberta (emphases added):<\/p>\n

    Babies who survive abortion face a parallel neglect \u2014 not because of a written rule, but because current clinical practice does not require intervention.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

    Yet some of these babies could survive with care. In Ontario, doctors and parents decide.<\/strong> Globally, advances in medicine keep pushing back what\u2019s dryly called the \u201cage of viability\u201d \u2014 some babies now survive when born at 21 or 22 weeks<\/a> and go on to live a normal life.
