It&#8217;s very risky to do a late-term abortion past 25\/26 weeks. Once you get into that area, even Curtis Boyd admits that it is very very dangerous and it increases each week that you go on into the pregnancy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>And as you get into the 24th, 25th, 26th week it becomes incredibly dangerous&#8230;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Atkins&#8217; fatal abortion was an <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220521003927\/https:\/\/www.abortionontrial.org\/post\/case-closed-unm-settles-in-atkins-negligent-referral-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">elective<\/a> induction abortion at 24 weeks, funded by state Medicaid dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Seibel told Live Action News, \u201cIt is well established that each week after 18 weeks carries a risk of death which is greater than delivery of the baby.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Seibel cited deposition testimony which suggested that even abortionists believe the standard of care for later abortions \u2014 specifically induction abortion \u2014 is that they be committed in a hospital or hospital-like facility, not an outpatient abortion clinic. This testimony will be detailed in a separate article.<\/p>\n<p>Seibel pointed out that many outpatient abortion clinics have no early warning monitoring systems for sepsis, and there are &#8220;a lot more sepsis cases in these later term abortions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sGhffW15ATY?si=NML1Ttse9saChFxD\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>The pro-abortion admission<\/h3>\n<p>According to a report <a href=\"http:\/\/www8.nationalacademies.org\/onpinews\/newsitem.aspx?RecordID=24950\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> in March of 2018 by the National Academies of Science (NASEM) and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/profit-motive-study-claiming-abortion-safe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funded<\/a> by pro-abortion philanthropists, &#8220;the risk of a serious complication increases with weeks\u2019 gestation. As the number of weeks increases, the invasiveness of the required procedure and the need for deeper levels of sedation also increase.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Retired late-term abortionist Curtis Boyd&#8217;s own <a href=\"https:\/\/abortiondocs.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/SWWO-Consent-Form-2012.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">consent form<\/a> stated (emphasis added):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>The risk of termination of pregnancy gradually increases throughout the course of pregnancy. Boyd responded:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>It \u2014 as the gestation increases it takes longer to do the procedure. It&#8217;s more difficult. It might be more \u2014 much more time involved in some of them, so you&#8217;ve got more skill and experience required, more specialized. You&#8217;re more likely to have a hospitalization,&#8221; Boyd said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Are you more likely to have a hospitalization based on the increased gestational age of the fetus?&#8221; Hall asked Boyd.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes,&#8221; Boyd responded.<\/p>\n<p>Boyd would know, as his business, Southwestern Women&#8217;s Options (SWO), had several hospitalizations.<\/p>\n<p>Deposition testimony of abortionist Carmen Landau, one of Boyd&#8217;s fellow abortionists at SWO, reveals one example among many in which an induction abortion committed in a facility other than a hospital led to the transport of an abortion client for bleeding:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wCXzg-z2BDI?si=V-SGnjQu1a11dRLZ\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Additional documents <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220702113426\/https:\/\/www.abortionontrial.org\/post\/abortionist-admits-their-abortion-facility-has-sent-at-least-17-women-to-the-hospital-within-4-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reveal<\/a> that SWO transported at least 17 women to the emergency room in a four-year time frame. Interestingly, Boyd&#8217;s own abortionists regularly <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/late-term-abortionist-patients-emergency-room\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advised<\/a> patients to contact the abortion facility instead of the emergency room if they experienced any complications:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/myC9WJwwr1w?si=Z39ZUJrJNrAKZjer\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>&#8216;Negligent referral&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p>Seibel\u2019s lawsuit on behalf of Keisha Atkins&#8217; family eventually led to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/unm-clinic-settle-1-26m-040100097.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$1.26 million settlement<\/a>, which included a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230622063203\/https:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/local\/unm-clinic-settle-for-1-26m-in-abortion-death\/article_0a9ceea1-2ad8-5745-89da-995864522bd6.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrongful referral settlement<\/a> of $365,000 from the University of New Mexico (UNM), which trains abortionists.<\/p>\n<p>The group Abortion on Trial (AOT) <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220424205539\/https:\/\/www.abortionontrial.org\/post\/breaking-new-records-prove-24-week-elective-abortion-was-taxpayer-funded\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> at the time:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Records documenting Keisha Atkins\u2019 24-week elective abortion show that she was provided with financial assistance via Medicaid. Thousands and thousands of taxpayer dollars were used through Medicaid via <a class=\"_3Bkfb _1lsz7\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220424205539\/https:\/\/www.phs.org\/health-plans\/centennial-care-medicaid\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-hook=\"linkViewer\"><u class=\"_3zM-5\">Presbyterian Centennial Care<\/u><\/a> insurance provider. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Southwestern Women\u2019s Options abortion facility arranged financial assistance for Ms. Atkins, who died due to her septic abortion. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>In these records, you can see itemized billing for the abortion services provided to Keisha Atkins: $200 for an ultrasound, $60 for the digoxin medication to kill the fetus, and $120 for intravenous Fentanyl, among others.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Keisha\u2019s abortion was elective. It was performed on a healthy and viable baby. It killed her along with her baby,&#8221; AOT, which <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20201001171452\/https:\/\/www.abortionontrial.org\/post\/breaking-new-records-prove-24-week-elective-abortion-was-taxpayer-funded\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> the documentation, added.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230622063203\/https:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/local\/unm-clinic-settle-for-1-26m-in-abortion-death\/article_0a9ceea1-2ad8-5745-89da-995864522bd6.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/news\/local\/unm-clinic-settle-for-1-26m-in-abortion-death\/article_0a9ceea1-2ad8-5745-89da-995864522bd6.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Albuquerque Journal<\/a> reported about the Atkins <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-facility-responsible-keisha-atkins-death-settlement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">settlement<\/a>, writing, &#8220;UNM, which state records show paid $365,000 of the total, was accused of <strong>negligently referring Atkins to the private Southwestern Women&#8217;s Options clinic<\/strong> near downtown Albuquerque after she was deemed ineligible for an elective abortion at UNM&#8217;s Center for Reproductive Health&#8221; (emphasis added).<\/p>\n<h2>The Context:<\/h2>\n<p>There are two primary methods used in later abortion: Dilation and Evacuation (D&amp;E &#8211; dismembering the preborn child limb from torso) and induction abortion.<\/p>\n<p>The Live Action video below explains the induction procedure:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/aBIhez7C1dM?si=vJM_OvZfP_oE9Ptq\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the time when abortion industry insiders, insurance companies, and abortion-friendly groups were openly admitting to the dangers of induction abortion \u2014 laying out the case that induction abortion is riskier than D&amp;E \u2014 the D&amp;E second-trimester procedure was under great scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, during legal court proceedings challenging prohibitions on D&amp;E abortions, industry insiders argued that dismembering a child was &#8216;safer&#8217; for women than inducing labor.<\/p>\n<p>Their goal was to protect their ability to perform brutal D&amp;Es \u2014 but in order to make this argument, they openly made the case that induction abortions were riskier for women. Their testimony laid out a case that the standard of care regarding induction abortion was too risky to be left to outpatient abortion facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, it is clear that outpatient abortion facilities have committed and continue to commit induction abortions <em>even after admitting that they are putting women at greater risk<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2>The Bottom Line:<\/h2>\n<p>In part two of the series, Live Action News will document how insurance companies and universities, among others, are clear that the standard of care for later induction abortion is that they be committed in a hospital or &#8216;hospital-like&#8217; facility.<\/p>\n<p>But regardless of the<em> location<\/em> in which a late-term abortion is committed, it is neither a safe nor ethical procedure. It puts the mother at risk, and intentionally kills an innocent preborn human being.
