While Kate\u2019s due date was originally March 27, she was ultimately born 13 weeks premature on December 26 and immediately started the fight for her life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI got to see her for two minutes. So it wasn&#8217;t long that we got to lay eyes on her, but we were glad we did,\u201d Kareena shared, adding that, when she was discharged weeks ahead of Kate, she, \u201cdid a lot of sobbing that night because it was just the first night we were going home without her.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-law-brain-dead-pregnant-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>FACT CHECK: Is a pro-life law forcing a brain dead pregnant woman to stay on life support?<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kate\u2019s team of physicians and nurses in the NICU quickly grew fond of her as she overcame various challenges, on multiple occasions needing to be revived after she ceased breathing; the little girl eventually progressed to a healthier weight of 5 pounds and learned how to eat from a bottle effectively.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt really felt like she had accomplished something so great,\u201d Kareena said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The team at the hospital surprised Kate\u2019s parents with a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ktla.com\/news\/nationworld\/micro-preemie-graduates-after-80-days-in-nicu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cgraduation\u201d party<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on March 17, the day she was discharged, which included dressing Kate in a cap and gown over a pink onesie that read \u201cPeace out NICU, I\u2019m moving in with my parents.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>THE BOTTOM LINE:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, in over <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/lifesavinglaws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">half of U.S. states<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it is legal to kill a preborn child in the womb even at 27 weeks\u2019 gestation \u2014 the point at which Kate was born.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe were just so proud of her for getting through 81 days.
