Now, he says it&#8217;s ineffective."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Abortionist Mitchell Creinin, who previously <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CaroleNovielli\/status\/1118941051786551298\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disclosed<\/a> his financial ties to abortion pill manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secretive-abortion-pill-danco-comply-federal-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danco Laboratories<\/a>, has published his latest attack on the &#8220;Abortion Pill Reversal&#8221; (APR) protocol. However, his analysis actually reveals the potential for the <em>abortion pill to fail<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>KEY TAKEAWAYS:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Abortion proponents continuously try to discredit &#8220;Abortion Pill Reversal&#8221; (the administration of progesterone to outcompete the action of the abortion pill mifepristone). Progesterone has been used for decades in an attempt to prevent threatened miscarriage.<\/li>\n<li>A new analysis of a retrospective study claims more clinical trials are needed to know the effects of natural or synthetic progesterone on mifepristone taken for abortion, especially based on gestational age.<\/li>\n<li>However, at the same time, the analysis asserts that the success of administering natural progesterone to reverse the effects of the abortion pill is &#8220;likely low.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>THE CONTEXT:<\/h3>\n<p>Creinin was the researcher in an earlier abortion pill <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-abortion-pill-reversal-questionable-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> which utilized an extremely small sample size of participants and was heavily criticized as being unreliable and even deceptive in its conclusions, which didn&#8217;t match up with the study outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>This first study had just <em>12 participants<\/em> and was halted early after two women dropped out and three women experienced \u201csevere hemorrhage requiring ambulance transport to hospital.\u201d Two of those three women had received <em>only<\/em> the abortion pill and a <em>placebo<\/em> (in other words, <em>no<\/em> progesterone to counter the effects of the abortion pill), and one received progesterone only.<\/p>\n<p>The study conclusion <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/greenjournal\/abstract\/2020\/01000\/mifepristone_antagonization_with_progesterone_to.21.aspx\">states<\/a>, &#8220;We could not estimate the efficacy of progesterone for mifepristone antagonization due to safety concerns when mifepristone is administered without subsequent prostaglandin analogue treatment. Patients in early pregnancy who use only mifepristone may be at high risk of significant hemorrhage.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>That study was widely touted by media as proof that &#8220;Abortion Pill Reversal&#8221; was dangerous to women.<\/p>\n<p>Yet now, years later, Creinin is attempting to show <em>not<\/em> that APR is dangerous \u2014 <strong>but that it is essentially <em>ineffective<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>THE DETAILS:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Creinin&#8217;s most recent &#8220;secondary analysis of a retrospective study&#8221; reveals that, whether administering the two-drug Food and Drug Administration&#8217;s (FDA) approved combined regimen of mifepristone and misoprostol or the unapproved misoprostol (&#8220;MISO only&#8221;) protocol, so-called &#8220;medical&#8221; abortions have the potential to fail.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Depomedroxyprogesterone acetate impact on mifepristone action during medication abortion&#8221; was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/13625187.2025.2495601?scroll=top&amp;needAccess=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> by the European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Health Care was co-authored by Creinin and Christy M. But&#8230; he says he still hasn&#8217;t, claiming the following<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/concerns-grow-over-stability-and-efficacy-of-mail-order-abortion-drugs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion pill regimen<\/a> itself &#8220;clearly has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-failure-rate-nearly-double-fda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increasing failure rates<\/a>, [with] ongoing pregnancy as a reason for failure.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Appropriate clinical trials&#8221; are needed to know &#8220;how any specific progestogen will impact mifepristone.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>The DMPA\/abortion drug studies didn&#8217;t track efficacy by gestational age, so there are too many unknowns, and &#8220;studies with larger numbers of participants within each gestational duration group&#8221; are necessary.<\/li>\n<li>The later the gestational age, the greater the risk of abortion drugs&#8217; failure, regardless of whether patients got DMPA.<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;The differences in outcomes between patients&#8221; receiving or not receiving DMPA with mifepristone were &#8220;notable although not statistically significant.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_331601\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-331601\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-331601 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05Mitchell-Creinin-attacks-abortion-pill-reversal-APR-second-study-19-162642-700x613.jpg\" alt=\"Mitchell Creinin attacks abortion pill reversal (APR) second study\" width=\"700\" height=\"613\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05Mitchell-Creinin-attacks-abortion-pill-reversal-APR-second-study-19-162642-700x613.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05Mitchell-Creinin-attacks-abortion-pill-reversal-APR-second-study-19-162642-300x263.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05Mitchell-Creinin-attacks-abortion-pill-reversal-APR-second-study-19-162642-768x673.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05Mitchell-Creinin-attacks-abortion-pill-reversal-APR-second-study-19-162642-500x438.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Screenshot-2025-05Mitchell-Creinin-attacks-abortion-pill-reversal-APR-second-study-19-162642.jpg 1090w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-331601\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mitchell Creinin attacks abortion pill reversal (APR) second study<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The authors disputed APR&#8217;s &#8220;efficacy rates of 50% for progesterone therapy started some time after mifepristone administration,&#8221; claiming the &#8220;effect is only 25% and even lower for pregnancies \u226449days&#8221; because of the abortion pill&#8217;s high rate of failure.<\/p>\n<p>And as noted above, Creinin&#8217;s first attempt at a &#8220;clinical trial&#8221; was extremely unreliable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other significant assertions from the authors centered around use of &#8220;Misoprostol-alone&#8221; abortions<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bad-actors-failure-prone-abortion-drug\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unapproved one-drug regimen<\/a> of &#8220;Misoprostol-alone&#8221; is <em>even<\/em> <em>less effective <\/em>at killing preborn babies than the two-drug regimen approved by the FDA, though the abortion industry has promoted it.<\/li>\n<li>The authors said this method &#8220;is about 74.0% effective with a single misoprostol buccal dose,&#8221; but &#8220;when considering all possible data, the effectiveness likely falls within a range of 68.7\u2013 76.2%&#8221; depending on &#8220;misoprostol route, &#8230; repeat dosing&#8230; and by gestational duration.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Using the misoprostol-alone data, we estimate the impact of DMPA on mifepristone when used simultaneously in the study cohort. Yet, Creinin and his Planned Parenthood co-author do not appear concerned that abortion pills are used <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bad-actors-industry-abortion-pill-fda-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">well past that gestational marker<\/a>, even into the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/group-recommends-abortion-pill-third-trimester\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">third trimester<\/a>, nor have they shown concern over\u00a0<span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/?s=bad+actors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ho<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/?s=bad+actors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">w<\/a><\/span>\u00a0Big Abortion is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/big-abortion-avoids-buries-pill-complications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flouting<\/a> FDA safety requirements for the drug.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>COMMENTARY:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Christa Brown, BSN, RN, LAS \u2014 Heartbeat International&#8217;s Senior Director of Medical Impact \u2014 told Live Action News that it&#8217;s not just the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/top-myths-debunked-american-college-obstetricians-gynecologists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-abortion<\/a> American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) which has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/big-abortion-pill-reversal-decrease-effectiveness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a> that DMPA (or depo provera, a progestin contraception) affects the efficacy of mifepristone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the approval package for mifepristone to the FDA, there is clear evidence that mifepristone is antagonized by progesterone,&#8221; Brown said. &#8220;Animal and human studies have confirmed this. Creinin&#8230; continues to contradict himself. His previous small study gave the highest success rate of any abortion pill reversal study and yet he continues to deny reversal is possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Board-certified OB\/GYN Dr. Ingrid Skop told Live Action News:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Mitchell Creinin is intent on discrediting APR to deny women a choice to try to save their unborn child when they regret taking mifepristone. In this study, he focuses on an apples-to-oranges comparison by using a synthetic progestogen, depo-provera, to estimate the benefit that natural progesterone would have in countering the effects of mifepristone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She added, &#8220;As a clinician who provides progesterone in this circumstance, I have seen the lives of babies saved when the anti-hormonal effect of mifepristone is counteracted by the pro-pregnancy effect of natural progesterone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Andrea Trudden, VP of Communications &amp; Marketing at HBI, pointed out the &#8220;stark double standard&#8221; of the abortion industry, telling Live Action News:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Misoprostol is not FDA-approved for use as a standalone abortion drug, yet it\u2019s being pushed by the abortion lobby with increasing urgency. Meanwhile, progesterone\u2014a naturally occurring hormone safely used for decades to support early pregnancy\u2014is met with criticism when offered to women seeking to reverse the effects of mifepristone. It\u2019s troubling to see such a stark double standard: opposition to saving a life with progesterone, but no hesitation to end one using misoprostol.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Dr. Creinin continues to underscore what the FDA\u2019s REMS once required: women need real medical oversight when considering the abortion pill. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>She added that Creinin&#8217;s work &#8220;consistently shows that women should have an ultrasound to identify how far along she is before considering this option and she should have follow up visits to confirm completion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to Brown, &#8220;Mitchell Creinin seemingly refuses to believe that women regret their abortion decisions and that regret often occurs quickly. To want to control this pregnancy choice and not permit them to reverse mifepristone is cruel.
