But is the app all that it is presented to be?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Live Action News previously reported on how women of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/younger-generations-natural-birth-control-reasons\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">younger generations<\/span><\/a> are<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> becoming more cognizant of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/dangers-hormonal-birth-control\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dangers of hormonal birth control<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (with an increased risk of stroke, heart attack, blood clots and depression) and are consequently turning to natural methods of family planning. But Planned Parenthood has never been so keen on the use of natural methods. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2017, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planned Parenthood\u2019s former president Cecile Richards <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-natural-family-planning\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mocked natural family planning<\/span><\/a>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> calling it \u201cinsane\u201d while simultaneously praising the use of potentially harmful hormonal birth control. That&#8217;s why Planned Parenthood\u2019s pivot toward attempting to assist with fertility tracking methods through the Spot On app seems suspicious.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The app claims to help users track menstrual cycles, birth control, self-reported daily activities, and a &#8220;fertility window&#8221; to &#8220;empower you whether you&#8217;re trying to conceive or aiming to prevent pregnancy.&#8221; It promises anonymity since no identifiable information, verification, or log-in of any kind is required.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the user&#8217;s self-reported information about her menstrual cycle is entered, the calendar populates with the days the app predicts the woman will be &#8220;fertile&#8221; and days predicting future periods. Reliable tracking involves more than just charting one&#8217;s menstruation.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, once in the Spot On, it becomes clear it actually has little to do with tracking fertility for the purpose of conceiving \u2013 despite claims by the Planned Parenthood Direct website. One example is the resource video, &#8220;What is Virginity?&#8221; which is suggested after the user hits the prompted question, \u201cWhat is the right age to have sex for the first time?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The video claims virginity is \u201cmade up,\u201d and adds, \u201cThe truth is that when we make our decision to become sexually active, we aren\u2019t setting ourselves up to lose anything at all. It takes time and practice to use FAMs correctly.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Often, the Roo chatbot offers additional resources like<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qchatspace.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Q Chat Space<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which &#8220;provides online discussion groups for teens ages 13 to 19, facilitated by experienced staff who work at LGBTQ+ centers around the country.&#8221; The Q Chat Space is equipped with a \u201cquick escape\u201d button for children who do not want parents or guardians to see what the minor is accessing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heavily targeting minors as a client base while receiving nearly $700 million in taxpayer funding, Planned Parenthood is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/hhs-report-planned-parenthood-leading-provider-hormones\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one of the largest providers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of &#8220;gender-affirming care.&#8221; Consequently, it is no surprise that Planned Parenthood teams up with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pflag.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PFLAG<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqcenters.org\/LGBTCenters?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=20993582126&amp;gbraid=0AAAAAD1F1bfAHupan7qG2peDGF9XuXp_D&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw2tHABhCiARIsANZzDWrpdQ8hBYcsNlH899jRXNFkURGwiEwGKtuWaP4aySOwNsRrjSt2fREaAihoEALw_wcB\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CenterLink<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qchatspace.org\/Learn-More\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">support and help fund<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Q Chat &#8212; which states that its online forums are currently unavailable due to &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.qchatspace.org\/Learn-More\/FAQ\">budget cuts<\/a>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Notably, the Spot On app also easily connects users to Planned Parenthood Direct, where users can order abortion pills and birth control or find the nearest abortion facility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite attempts to lure women to the Spot On app for assistance in natural family planning, the reality is that the app instead offers questionable cycle tracking and other information, and has little to do with tracking fertility for the purpose of conceiving despite claims by the PP Direct website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/actnow.io\/G3Bhv6M\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-325597\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/LA25DefundPP_EmailBannerAd-02-1-700x251.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"251\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/LA25DefundPP_EmailBannerAd-02-1-700x251.png 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/LA25DefundPP_EmailBannerAd-02-1-300x107.png 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/LA25DefundPP_EmailBannerAd-02-1-768x275.png 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/LA25DefundPP_EmailBannerAd-02-1-500x179.png 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/LA25DefundPP_EmailBannerAd-02-1.png 1167w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Despite being a leader in the life-ending abortion industry, Planned Parenthood seems to be attempting to draw women interested in natural family planning methods to its Spot On app \u2014 promising to help users track their fertility.
