The ordinance was passed in a unanimous 5-0 vote. The city of Lueders is the third city in Jones County and the second city in Shackelford County to pass a SCFTU ordinance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the vote, Jones County Republican Chair David D. Andrews shared:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is still hope for humanity in our world when a sleepy little town in West Texas takes a\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stand on abortion. Congratulations to those civic leaders in Lueders, Texas, in Jones County for standing up and supporting the moral majority to designate the city as a Sanctuary City against the abortion of God\u2019s precious children in the womb! God bless our nation and God bless Texas!\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shackelford County Republican Chair Rodney Casey, who was in attendance at the meeting, shared:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lueders, well known for their limestone shipped around the world and for their <\/span><\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigcountrycamp.com\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Big Country Baptist Assembly<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 which is one of the oldest Christian camps in the world, became the 73rd sanctuary city for the unborn in the nation! Congratulations to Lueders! Hallelujah!<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vote by the City Council in Lueders came just three days after <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/seventh-texas-county-outlaws-abortion-trafficking-roads\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shackelford County<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/texas-city-moran-72nd-sanctuary-city-unborn\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moran<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> passed Sanctuary for the Unborn ordinances. (Photo: Mark Lee Dickson)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The six provisions of the Lueders SCFTU Ordinance are as follows: (1) prohibit performing an elective abortion and aiding or abetting elective abortions within the city limits of Lueders, (2) prohibit elective abortions on residents of Lueders \u2013 regardless of where the abortion takes place, (3) prohibit abortion trafficking through the City of Lueders, (4) prohibit the mailing of abortion-inducing drugs into the City of Lueders, (5) prohibit criminal abortion organizations from doing business inside the city limits, and (6) prohibit through or in the City of Lueders the transportation and disposal of the remains of unborn children who have been killed by an elective abortion across state lines and carried into Texas by waste management companies.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lueders SCFTU Ordinance is enforced the same way the Texas Heartbeat Act is enforced \u2014 through a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/far-reaching-impact-private-right-action-abortion\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">private right of action<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The ordinance reads, \u201cAny person, other than the city of Lueders, and any officer or employee of the city, has standing to bring and may bring a civil action against any person or entity that: violates any provision\u201d of this ordinance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ny-official-enforces-shield-law-abortionist\/\"><em>New York official enforces \u2018shield law\u2019 to protect abortionist who broke Texas law<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ordinance also educates about the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/alternatives-abortion-thriving-texas-families-program\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thriving Texas Families Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and directs people to the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.texaspregnancy.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas Pregnancy Care Network<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> website for resources available to women experiencing unexpected pregnancies. The area is serviced by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/theopendoorprc.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Open Door Pregnancy &amp; Family Resource Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which has a mobile ultrasound unit that frequents Anson (pop. 2,347) and Albany (pop. 2,043), along with centers in both Cisco (pop. 4,006) and Breckenridge (pop. 5,868).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Lueders SCFTU ordinance has a six-year statute of limitations and is clear that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201ca civil action \u2026 may not be brought against the woman upon whom the abortion was performed or induced or attempted to be performed or induced in violation of this ordinance, or against a pregnant woman who intends or seeks to abort her unborn child in violation of this ordinance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_330108\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-330108\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-330108\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/making-baby-blankets-west-TX-Mark-Lee-Dickson-700x525.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/making-baby-blankets-west-TX-Mark-Lee-Dickson-700x525.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/making-baby-blankets-west-TX-Mark-Lee-Dickson-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/making-baby-blankets-west-TX-Mark-Lee-Dickson-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/making-baby-blankets-west-TX-Mark-Lee-Dickson-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/making-baby-blankets-west-TX-Mark-Lee-Dickson.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-330108\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">On Thursday, a group of volunteers from across West Texas met up at the Big Country Baptist Assembly in Lueders to make baby blankets to give to pregnancy centers across the State of Texas. (Photo: Mark Lee Dickson)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While no litigation against the city is expected over the passage of the ordinance, the City of Lueders received a preemptive letter from Attorney Jonathan F. Mitchell, with the former Solicitor General of Texas offering to represent the City of Lueders at no cost to the city or taxpayers for any litigation that may arise from the passage of their ordinance outlawing abortion and abortion trafficking.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lueders is the 30th Texas city to outlaw abortion since Planned Parenthood\u2019s lawsuit against the City of Lubbock was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/judge-dismisses-planned-parenthoods-lawsuit\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dismissed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Federal Court in 2021, and the 43rd Texas city to outlaw abortion since the ACLU <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/aclu-withdraws-lawsuit-texas-sanctuary-cities-unborn\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">withdrew<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> its lawsuit against seven cities in East Texas in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lueders will not be the last \u201csanctuary for the unborn.\u201d Several cities and counties across the state are considering passing such measures to address the tragedy of abortion.
