Yet her career has also been marked by some controversial moments, the latest of which revolved around her comments regarding parenthood.<\/p>\n<p>In an appearance on the &#8220;Call Her Daddy&#8221; podcast, Roan was asked if she was still in touch with her friends in Missouri, to which she answered in the positive. &#8220;A lot of them are married with children, and they have their own houses, and to me\u2026 Like, I don\u2019t know when that\u2019s going to happen for me. I don\u2019t know when that\u2019s realistic, if ever,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if she wanted to have children, Roan again said she wasn&#8217;t sure, but her reasoning was offensive to some parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of my friends who have kids are in hell. I actually don\u2019t know anyone who\u2019s happy and has children at this age\u2026 I have, like, a one-year-old, three-year-old, four and under, five and under\u2026 I\u2019ve literally not met anyone who\u2019s happy, anyone who has light in their eyes, who has slept.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmrctv%2Fvideos%2F2070282723456113%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>While many voices have either echoed or opposed what Roan said, the fact remains that parenting <em>is difficult<\/em>. Caring for a person who is wholly dependent upon you comes with challenging moments, takes a great deal of effort and investment, and at times requires a person give up his or her own desires for the good of another human being. Conservative commentator Allie Beth Stuckey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reel\/1293617035028532\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> that many have taken a one-sided view on this issue.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The reality is&#8230; we should be talking more positively about parenting,&#8221; Stuckey said. &#8220;It&#8217;s not that it doesn&#8217;t require sacrifice. It&#8217;s not that it&#8217;s not hard. It&#8217;s not that we don&#8217;t have sleepless nights. It&#8217;s just that the joy and the happiness and the goodness children bring our lives is so much deeper and better than all of the hardship that comes with parenting. And here&#8217;s the thing that a lot of people don&#8217;t realize today: things don&#8217;t have to be easy in order to be good.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While some people may choose not to conceive children, it has unfortunately become culturally acceptable to criticize those who choose to become parents; consider, for example, American Idol contestant Sara Beth Liebe, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/katy-perry-mom-shame-american-idol\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">openly shamed<\/a> by judge Katy Perry for having three children at age 25. Perry implied that because Liebe is a wife and mom, she didn&#8217;t want success as a singer badly enough.<\/p>\n<p>Medical journals have even <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/medical-journal-encouraging-children-reminiscent-handmaids-tale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">criticized efforts<\/a> to encourage parenthood as being reminiscent of the &#8220;Handmaid&#8217;s Tale,&#8221; while MSNBC has called such efforts &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/msnbc-contributor-families-children-racist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">racist<\/a>.&#8221; Comedian Chelsea Handler (who has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/theres-nothing-feminist-about-comedienne-chelsea-handlers-promotion-of-abortion\/\">discussed<\/a> her past abortions) has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/comedian-chelsea-handler-women-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demeaned parenthood<\/a> in her skits, saying, \u201cInstead of shaming childless women for what we\u2019re doing in the country, you should be thanking us. We are saving society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Comments of this nature have contributed to a growing <em>anti-child<\/em> sentiment in society, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/parents-babies-welcomed-flights-comedian\/\">reflected<\/a> in a cultural expectation that children should be rarely seen in public, so they do not inconvenience or trouble adults. Motherhood is made to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/no-one-wants-another-baby\/\">appear<\/a> as a life of misery, filled with exhaustion and ungrateful children \u2014 akin to enslavement. Parents of young children are <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/big-bang-theory-kaley-cuoco-mom-shamed\/\">so rarely treated with kindness<\/a> that the instance of a stranger on an airplane <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=D9KUDUgP-eA\">showing generosity<\/a> to a family with a cranky toddler or a crying infant becomes a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/mom-screaming-baby-plane-shocked-woman-next-does-1972856\">viral<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Lifestyle\/kind-stranger-puts-fellow-passengers-baby-sleep-midflight\/story?id=41973032\">social media-worthy<\/a> post.<\/p>\n<p>Living life only for ourselves and our own needs is, in the end, a shallow life \u2014 whether one has children or not. Children should not be viewed as obstacles to one&#8217;s true fulfillment \u2014 but neither should they be viewed as a means for adults to obtain fulfillment.
