(The College Fix<\/a>) A Planned Parenthood executive is researching \u201cpower and oppression\u201d and \u201creproductive health services\u201d with the help of nearly half a million in taxpayer funds.<\/p>\n

The study<\/a>, \u201cEnhancing Policy Impact for Reproductive Health Equity,\u201d will look at \u201csocietal dynamics of power and oppression\u201d can affect access to sexual and reproductive health services. The study runs through Aug. 2026.<\/p>\n

These \u201csocietal dynamics\u201d disproportionately harm \u201cindividuals who identify as Black, Indigenous, and people of color\u2026 those with disabilities and chronic disease, individuals who are transgender or gender-nonconforming\u2026and people of lower socioeconomic status,\u201d according to study author Elizabeth Janiak.<\/p>\n

Janiak is a Harvard University professor whose research \u201cexplores how government and institutional policies create inequities in access to and quality of sexual and reproductive health\u2026care,\u201d according to her faculty bio. Janiak also serves as director of social science research at the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.<\/p>\n

She also runs the \u201cLab for Contraception and Abortion Research\u201d at Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital.<\/p>\n

The study, which uses an \u201cintersectional framework,\u201d is designed to \u201cunderstand barriers to insurance utilization, with the goal of improving future health policy interventions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The project received $495,307 from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development split between $327,394 in direct costs and $167,913 in indirect costs.<\/p>\n

The College Fix<\/em> contacted the National Institutes of Health, the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and program official Ronna Popkin with questions about whether the project\u2019s future has been affected by the Trump administration, a more specific summary of its costs, and if the NIH regularly funds research that uses an \u201cintersectional framework.\u201d<\/p>\n
