Ned Lamont returned from an overseas trip and <a href=\"https:\/\/ctnewsjunkie.com\/2025\/03\/04\/lamont-returns-from-india-vetoes-emergency-spending-plans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vetoed<\/a> approved &#8217;emergency&#8217; spending for Fiscal Year 2025 after the state Senate and the House both overwhelmingly approved it. That included a line item that would have given <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtnh.com\/news\/connecticut\/hartford\/gov-ned-lamont-vetoes-43-million-in-democrat-led-spending\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$800,000 to Planned Parenthood<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Section 11 directs $800,000 to a single organization without explanation as to why this entity is prioritized over others providing similar services,&#8221; reads the <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/governor\/-\/media\/office-of-the-governor\/bill-notifications\/2025\/bill-notification-2025-1.pdf?rev=e5f14f5df08644d88a55cd4af78fc2ab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">veto notification<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, by Tuesday, that override was averted when legislative leaders and Lamont reached a compromise in which the state will provide an extra $40 million for statewide special education programming; more than $2 million for nonprofit social services helping immigrants and the LGBTQ-plus community; and another $800,000 for Planned Parenthood of Southern New England.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>3\/2\/2025<\/strong>: Connecticut lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/ctmirror.org\/2025\/02\/26\/ct-abortion-pill-mifepristone-stockpile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed a bill<\/a> Wednesday which grants $800,000 to Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE). The abortion chain affiliate is the greatest beneficiary of the \u201cemergency\u201d bill, and is reportedly planning to use some of the state funds to stockpile the abortion pill mifepristone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/asp\/cgabillstatus\/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=LCO&amp;which_year=2025&amp;bill_num=5298\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">House Bill 7066<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> passed by a 25-9 vote, and is designed to limit the effect of some of the Trump administration\u2019s policies in the state. The bill is \u201cemergency-certified,\u201d which means that it bypassed the public hearings and committees usually tasked with reviewing legislation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The passage of HB 7066 follows <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodaction.org\/planned-parenthood-votes-connecticut\/blog\/patients-at-risk-how-connecticuts-underinvestment-in-reproductive-health-threatens-access-to-care\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">campaign<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> efforts by PPSNE to increase funding for the affiliate as corporate Planned Parenthood <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/6-facts-nyt-planned-parenthood-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">claims <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nationwide financial deficits. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bill grants $2.8 million total to organizations which face a potential loss of funding due to Trump\u2019s policies; $800,000 of those dollars are going to PPSNE.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>An image shows the top four beneficiaries of HB 7066. Planned Parenthood\u2019s funding far outstrips funding for other organizations. The majority of the organizations benefitted by the bill are receiving grant amounts of $62,500:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_326971\" style=\"width: 522px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-326971\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-326971 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/unnamed-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"512\" height=\"190\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/unnamed-1.png 512w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/unnamed-1-300x111.png 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/unnamed-1-500x186.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-326971\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: CT Mirror Chart: Stephen Busemeyer | CT Mirror Source: CGA Get the data Created with Datawrapper<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Republican lawmakers voiced concern over the way the legislation was fast-tracked and pointed to other funding needs in the state.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe&#8217;re forcing all of us in this chamber, without a proper public hearing, without proper discussion, without proper review, to be forced to vote on something that usurped the entire legislative process,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ctmirror.org\/2025\/02\/25\/ct-trump-immigration-policy-uconn-athlete-pay\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senate Minority Leader Stephen Harding, R-Brookfield.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gretchen Raffa, vice president at PPSNE, celebrated the bill, noting that some of the money will be earmarked to stockpiling the abortion pill.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe know that there are threats that are coming from the federal administration and Congress, and we need to do everything we can to ensure that people will continue to have access to medication abortion and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care,\u201d Raffa <a href=\"https:\/\/ctmirror.org\/2025\/02\/26\/ct-abortion-pill-mifepristone-stockpile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She noted that the Planned Parenthood affiliate couldn\u2019t give an \u201cexact figure\u201d of money from the funds that will go towards mifepristone. But could PPSNE\u2019s legislative victory in Connecticut be a strategic part of a larger plot by Planned Parenthood to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-facility-closures-deficits-ruse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">restructure<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the corporation for financial gain, while using increased investments in political action (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/6-facts-nyt-planned-parenthood-crisis\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">instead<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of patient care) to expand revenue, along with the lucrative<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/overwhelming-majority-planned-parenthood-abortions-pill\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> abortion pill business model<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PPSNE seems to have already adopted a low-cost, high-profit business model based on selling the abortion pill, as an online search reveals that only four of the affiliate\u2019s 14 facilities in Connecticut continue to sell surgical abortions in addition to the abortion pill. So, where will the additional revenue, nearly $1 million, from Connecticut\u2019s taxpayers this year go?
