Unfortunately, on the last day of their holiday, Jade began to have some difficulties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were on a babymoon in Aruba back in early March\u201d, Jade said. \u201cI was only 23 weeks. The last day of our vacation I was feeling totally fine until we had some complications that night. You know, some bleeding, and then things took a turn from there\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The couple remained in Aruba for a few days coordinating their travel back to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy membranes had ruptured, and I was dilating. So, they explained the risks, and they don\u2019t have a NICU [neonatal intensive care unit] there. They coordinated with Holtz [hospital in Miami, Florida] on getting us here where things could look a lot different\u201d,\u00a0<a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2024\/08\/06\/mom-to-mom-south-florida-organization-supports-family-with-premature-baby\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CFortunately%2C%20we%20were,different%2C%E2%80%9D%20said%20Jane.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0Jade.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/actress-lily-collins-child-born-surrogate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Actress Lily Collins sparks backlash after sharing her first child was born by surrogate<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFortunately, we were able to be flown from Aruba to Miami and we were able to be brought here because they were the closest for NICU\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Baby Kaden was born at just 23 weeks weighing only 1 pound 4 ounces<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Baby Kaden] was born at only one pound, four ounces\u201d, Jade\u00a0<a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2024\/08\/06\/mom-to-mom-south-florida-organization-supports-family-with-premature-baby\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CHe%20was%20born%20at%20only%20one%20pound%2C%20four%20ounces.%20So%2C%20he%20was%20very%20tiny.%20He%20was%20in%20an%20incubator.%20He%20was%20intubated%20for%20six%20weeks%20of%20his%20life.%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20get%20to%20hold%20him%20until%20he%20was%20three%20weeks%20old%20because%20he%20was%20so%20high%20risk.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cSo, he was very tiny. He was in an incubator. He was intubated for six weeks of his life. I didn\u2019t get to hold him until he was three weeks old because he was so high risk\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, nurses say that Kaden is a miracle, having not required any surgeries while in the NICU, and, five months after his birth, was weighing nine pounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s come a long way. He\u2019s fully off oxygen\u201d,\u00a0<a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2024\/08\/06\/mom-to-mom-south-florida-organization-supports-family-with-premature-baby\/#:~:text=He%E2%80%99s%20come%20a%20long%20way.%20He%E2%80%99s%20fully%20off%20oxygen.%20The%20only%20thing%20we%E2%80%99re%20working%20on%20is%20feedings.%20He%20currently%20gets%20some%20of%20his%20feeds%20through%20the%20tube%20in%20his%20nose%2C%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0Jade. \u201cThe only thing we\u2019re working on is feedings. He currently gets some of his feeds through the tube in his nose\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a rollercoaster\u201d, she added. \u201cThe most terrifying, stressful rollercoaster of my life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jade and her family supported by local charity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jade was introduced to the organisation ICU Baby, a non-profit helping families across five South Florida hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>The Executive Director of the organisation, Elizabeth Simonton,\u00a0<a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2024\/08\/06\/mom-to-mom-south-florida-organization-supports-family-with-premature-baby\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CICU%20baby%20is%20an%20organization%20that%20unites%20NICU%20families%20and%20offers%20them%20financial%2C%20emotional%20and%20informational%20support%20so%20that%20they%20can%20thrive%20in%20the%20NICU%2C%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>\u00a0\u201cICU Baby is an organization that unites NICU families and offers them financial, emotional and informational support so that they can thrive in the NICU\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur mentor program brings veteran NICU parents into the hospital to mentor our current NICU parents and they\u2019re able to offer their lived experience as a way to help that family that\u2019s going through it, to guide them\u201d, she\u00a0<a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2024\/08\/06\/mom-to-mom-south-florida-organization-supports-family-with-premature-baby\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9COur%20mentor%20program%20brings%20veteran%20NICU%20parents%20into%20the%20hospital%20to%20mentor%20our%20current%20NICU%20parents%20and%20they%E2%80%99re%20able%20to%20offer%20their%20lived%20experience%20as%20a%20way%20to%20help%20that%20family%20that%E2%80%99s%20going%20through%20it%2C%20to%20guide%20them.%20It%E2%80%99s%20really%20nice%20to%20hear%20success%20stories%20from%20them%2C%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">went on<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s really nice to hear success stories from them\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Jade found ICU Baby a great support in her difficult experience. She said \u201cICU Baby has been awesome, especially being far away from home, having to manage meals, lodging, everything on top of the stress of the NICU is very overwhelming\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had special events. We were here for Mother\u2019s Day, Father\u2019s Day and Easter. They had special events, so we could at least do something on those holidays and have some sense of normalcy\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the craziest journey you could imagine, but very rewarding at the end, and it\u2019s unfortunate that so many parents have to go through it\u201d, she\u00a0<a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2024\/08\/06\/mom-to-mom-south-florida-organization-supports-family-with-premature-baby\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CIt%E2%80%99s%20the%20craziest%20journey%20you%20could%20imagine%2C%20but%20very%20rewarding%20at%20the%20end%2C%20and%20it%E2%80%99s%20unfortunate%20that%20so%20many%20parents%20have%20to%20go%20through%20it.%20But%20these%20babies%20are%20so%20strong.%20The%20doctors%20and%20nurses%20here%20are%20amazing.%20I%20put%20all%20my%20trust%20in%20them%2C%20and%20they%20saved%20my%20baby%2C%E2%80%9D%20said%20Jade.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cBut these babies are so strong\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe doctors and nurses here are amazing. I put all my trust in them, and they saved my baby\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>After four and a half months in hospital, Jade was waiting to hear that her strong boy could go home to North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson for Right To Life UK, Catherine Robinson, said \u201cStories like Kaden\u2019s are becoming more common and demonstrating how medical staff work together to enable amazing outcomes for premature babies born even before the UK abortion limit.
