{"id":326067,"date":"2025-02-08T13:25:03","date_gmt":"2025-02-08T19:25:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=326067"},"modified":"2025-02-08T09:55:31","modified_gmt":"2025-02-08T15:55:31","slug":"abortion-survivor-struggled-self-worth-god-loved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-survivor-struggled-self-worth-god-loved\/","title":{"rendered":"Abortion survivor struggled with his self-worth until he realized &#8216;how much God loved me&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-survivors-choice-word-person\/\">Abortion survivor<\/a> Josiah Presley, in the lineup of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/march-for-life-speakers-inspire-truth\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">March for Life 2025 speakers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, is a pro-life advocate, husband, father, and pastor. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/vLRAAkRJuwc?si=luiJZ3SlngWOzw_q\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">speech at the March<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Presley stated, \u201cWhen I was unseen and devalued, my God had a different plan,&#8221; referencing the impact of the Gospel \u2014 and of Psalm 139 \u2014 on his life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vLRAAkRJuwc?si=W8EbQr8pqwmHk2eo\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presley\u2019s story began in 1995 in South Korea where a young mother and her boyfriend, already parents of a four-year-old daughter, discovered they were pregnant with their second child. They made the decision to have a first-trimester abortion known as a D&amp;C, or dilatation and curettage, at two months gestation. In a D&amp;C, powerful suction dismembers the tiny body of the preborn baby in the womb.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Hi-Kc5HLHP8?si=qzgO5MauwdPDREIh\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But Presley survived \u2014 and his mother, discovering he was still alive at about five months of pregnancy \u2014 carried him to term and then placed him into the foster care system. At 13 months old, he was adopted by a Christian couple from Oklahoma in the United States. Presley was born with a partially formed left arm, but it is uncertain if this was caused by<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/two-young-men-survived-abortions-live-injuries\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the abortion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he survived.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his testimony, Presley said he struggled with his self-image and self-worth because of his arm, and later, to an even greater extent after learning that his birth mother had tried to abort him. He told Live Action News that he had even <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-survivor-i-feel-burden-voice-those-dont-have-one\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">considered suicide at one time<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Later, though dealing with anger over what his birth parents had done, he chose to forgive them, realizing \u201chow much love had been poured upon\u201d his life by God and by his adoptive parents. His adoptive parents went on to adopt a total of 10 children in addition to their two biological children, and Presley has since gone on to become a husband, father, and youth pastor in Oklahoma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While Presley was new to his Christian faith, he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brnow.org\/news\/psalm-139-impactful-heart-song-for-abortion-survivor-minister-father\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">found immense solace<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in reading <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm%20139&amp;version=NIV\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Psalm 139:13<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cFor you created my inmost being, you knit me together in my mother\u2019s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made\u2026 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.\u201d This passage<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> goes on to praise God for His all-knowing and all-powerful attributes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Presley, this meant that his life had value and purpose despite his physical deformity and the rejection from his birth mother.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He told Life Institute, \u201cI realized how much God loved me. But I also realized that not only am I important to God, not only does God care about and love me; but every baby is important to God, every baby is cared about by God, every baby is loved by God, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/thelifeinstitute.net\/learning-centre\/personal-stories\/abortion-survivor-josiahs-story\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the moment of conception<\/span><\/a>&#8230;.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7KkEqweNpI0?si=tMkl2uR6FvsafQAl\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, Presley was featured in Live Action&#8217;s Face to Face video series, featuring interactions between abortion survivors, abortionists, and mothers who chose abortion and now regret it. In a response to former abortionist Dr. Haywood Robinson, Presley profoundly reflected that the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ashes-beauty-former-abortionists-survivors-face-video\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gospel is not about our worthiness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or any other possible trait, ability, or thing we could possess, but rather about \u201cthe value our Creator assigns to us.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He went on to say, \u201cAs that Gospel changed my life, I found redemption through that, but it\u2019s also the heart of even what we\u2019re talking about right now, right? That the unborn, every human life, has value not because of what we think they\u2019ll accomplish, not because of their physical capabilities, or their mental capabilities, or what socioeconomic status they\u2019ll even be born into.
