After an emotional family reunion, Bednarz recently celebrated her first Christmas with her biological father, Willie C. Cross, who is now 96 years old.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI was surprised that she wanted to find me, but I\u2019m glad she did,\u201d Cross told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/chicago-woman-96-year-old-father-to-share-christmas-together-in-emotional-reunion\/3631861\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NBC Chicago<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a broad smile.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to NBC Chicago, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reginawaldroup\/p\/DD-ZcbRvUIN\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bednarz<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a resident of Chicago, was adopted at three months of age. As she grew older, her interest in finding her biological parents intensified, and she hired a private investigator to search for her mother. Unfortunately, her mother had already passed away by that time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\" charset=\"UTF-8\" src=\"https:\/\/nbcchicago.com\/portableplayer\/?CID=1:6:3631888&#038;videoID=2397876803957&#038;origin=nbcchicago.com&#038;fullWidth=y&#038;autoplay=true\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bednarz was left with her father\u2019s name and little other information about him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI never in a million years would have thought he was alive,\u201d Bednarz said during her interview.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bednarz had lost hope in finding her father until she decided to take a<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.23andme.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">23andMe DNA test<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and subsequently received a message from a relative piecing together her family tree. The relative making the family tree connected Bednarz with a Cross family in Detroit. Bednarz called the first meeting \u201camazing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe just gave each other a big hug \u2013 it was just amazing,\u201d Bednarz explained.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cross, who was confirmed as Bednarz\u2019s biological father through a paternity test, was overjoyed to meet his daughter and welcome her into the family.
