Christmas is a time of marvels. The whole world, caught up in the pursuits and stress of adults, pauses and celebrates the birth of the Divine Child. The Birth of Jesus marks a time of profound change, a time in which God unites Himself to human generations, a time which heralds in a new age of peace and love when even the least child or baby is considered precious by lovers of the Divine Child. When else in history, when else during the year, is an infant universally celebrated and adored?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Christmas is a time of joy. Yet, the birth of the Divine Child has its sadness. When Jesus and His mother were most in need, before and during his birth, there was \u201cno room for them\u201d in the city, in society, in the compassion of other travelers and the locals in Bethlehem (<\/span>Luke 2:7<\/span><\/a>). As Mary, preborn Jesus, and Joseph searched the city on Christmas Eve for lodging, they may have received a few pitying words and glances, but for most people, another pregnant woman was a common sight easily overlooked. Joseph and Mary were forced to the outskirts of the city, to a cave, where the infant Jesus was born and laid in a manger, with \u201cno crib for a bed<\/a><\/span>.” A miracle passed by the majority of people on that first Christmas.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, each day, the miracle of Christmas is re-lived. God has forever joined Himself to the human family, and each baby conceived and born reflects in some way the glory of the Christ Child.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet, what happens when the young pregnant woman, in a crisis, goes around the \u201ccity” \u2014 the internet, her friends, her family \u2014 looking for \u201clodging,\u201d a space where she and her baby can be supported and loved? Too often, the expectant mother and her preborn child are marginalized, as if there is no room for mothers and children in society.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How are they marginalized? Whenever abortion is offered to a mother, or forced on her \u2013 whether this happens through the media, advertisements, counselors, partners, family members, or friends \u2014 the mother receives the message that her motherhood, her womanhood, is unwanted, and her child is an inconvenience or harm to herself and society. Too often, the desperate pregnant woman feels forced to seek out an abortion \u2014 deadly to her child and dangerous for her \u2014 at shady facilities masquerading as clinics in neighborhoods around the country. Many people don\u2019t notice the woman and her preborn child; many would rather not confront the predicament of the most vulnerable. The miracle of life eludes them, and often, a miraculous life is ended because of the indifference of many lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

The preborn child, threatened by abortion, has no place to lay his head in security and love. Even his mother has made her womb, his first resting place, a hostile zone. There is \u201cno crib for a bed\u201d for the aborted child, who never had the chance to take his first breath, make his first cry, or know the warmth of his mother\u2019s love.<\/span><\/p>\n
