A Colorado family is grateful this Christmas for the <\/span>bravery of their children<\/span><\/a> who escaped a burning home this week.<\/span><\/p>\n

A fire started in the home when the children’s parents were not there. Eight-year-old Grayson, who has Down syndrome, called his 14-year-old sister repeatedly to get out of the basement and escape their burning home. <\/span>He yelled, \u201cAva, Ava!\u201d <\/span>according to his mother<\/span><\/a>, and yelled again, \u201cAva, Ava\u201d down the stairwell.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Officers had to tear down a wooden fence to access the home and reach the children, who were crying in their backyard. A bodycam<\/span> video<\/span><\/a> of the rescue shows firefighters bravely approaching the children and the burning building. In the video, smoke and flames can be seen escaping the home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n
