California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced<\/a> Monday the introduction of two bills intended to expand abortion in the already pro-abortion state.<\/p>\n

The Medication Abortion Access bill, authored by state Representatives Maggy Krell (D-Sacramento) and Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (D-Winters), would shield manufacturers, distributors, authorized healthcare providers, and individuals from any civil, criminal, or professional liability when transporting, distributing, or administering chemical abortion drugs (mifepristone or misoprostol) in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have an incoming federal government that is hostile to women\u2019s rights. We have a Department of Justice incoming that may not even defend the FDA approval of medication abortion drugs. We have a United States Supreme Court that has abrogated the personal liberty interests of women to control their own bodies\u2026 That\u2019s what we\u2019re faced with,\u201d Krell claimed. \u201cBut California has done a lot to be ready for this.\u201d<\/p>\n

The second bill, the Attorney General Enforcement of the Reproductive Privacy Act, authored by state Representative Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D-Orinda), is aimed at local jurisdictions that try to block the opening of new abortion facilities. The measure would allow the AG’s office to fine any jurisdiction that it says illegally blocks an abortion business. The bill comes after residents in Beverly Hills successfully blocked<\/a> the opening of an abortion business there last year. In retaliation, Bonta filed a lawsuit<\/a> against the city.<\/p>\n

“No individual should face barriers to accessing care due to the deliberate actions of anyone,\u201d Bauer-Kahan said<\/a>. “By empowering the Attorney General to enforce the Reproductive Privacy Act, this legislation ensures that our laws are more than words on paper \u2014 they are protections in practice. I\u2019m proud to stand with Attorney General Bonta in defending the reproductive freedoms of every Californian.”<\/p>\n

“<\/strong>I want to make it unequivocally clear: California will remain a safe haven for reproductive rights and access to abortion care, no matter who is in the White House,” Bonta said in a press conference explaining the bills. “We have been preparing for this moment, and today\u2019s legislation doubles down on our commitment to protect those seeking reproductive healthcare, including access to medication abortion.”<\/p>\n

In a November statement<\/a>, the California Family Council said it is ready to fight against pro-abortion legislation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe battle in Beverly Hills highlights the importance of vigilance and advocacy in the face of relentless pro-abortion legislation,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

“Now, more than ever, communities must stand united against the normalization of such brutality and reaffirm their commitment to the sanctity of life, remembering that each person is fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God,” the group added. “Every voice matters, and every life is worth protecting. The fight for life continues\u2014not just in the courts but in the hearts and minds of Californians.”<\/p>\n
