{"id":322467,"date":"2024-12-10T16:51:54","date_gmt":"2024-12-10T22:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=322467"},"modified":"2024-12-09T22:54:45","modified_gmt":"2024-12-10T04:54:45","slug":"cdc-data-black-abortion-twice-high-birth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cdc-data-black-abortion-twice-high-birth\/","title":{"rendered":"CDC Data: Despite slight drop, Black abortion rate still nearly twice as high as Black birth rate"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Black and Hispanic women\u00a0saw a decrease in the number of abortions in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022<\/a>, according to recently published abortion data <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/73\/ss\/ss7307a1.htm?s_cid=ss7307a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released<\/a> by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). But despite this positive report, Black women continue to account for a disproportionately higher percentage, rate, and ratio of abortions.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/washpo-dishonestly-downplay-abortion-eugenics-ties\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tethered to eugenics<\/a>, and communities of color have historically been <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/reproductive-injustice-eliminating-minorities-poor-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">targeted<\/a> with eugenic policies; today, these policies extend to abortion. Abortion advocates often <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/reproductive-injustice-eliminating-minorities-poor-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">paint<\/a> the killing of preborn minority children as a solution to poverty, or as a stepping stone out of a life of poverty \u2014 or even as &#8220;equity.&#8221; But in reality, abortion has little to do with helping <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/taxpayer-funded-abortion-hyde-poor-abortion-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">communities of color<\/a> by ensuring &#8220;equity&#8221; \u2014 and instead serves to <em>eliminate<\/em> their weakest members.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, CDC data revealed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Black Americans<\/strong> made up <strong>11.7%<\/strong> of people living in the United States but accounted for <strong><em>39.5%<\/em><\/strong> of abortions. <strong>An <em>estimated<\/em> 664 Black babies are killed by abortion every day<\/strong>;\u00a0nearly 43 Black babies will die by abortion <em>for every 100 live births.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>White Americans made up <strong>57.7%<\/strong> of people living in the United States but accounted for <strong><em>31.9%<\/em><\/strong> of abortions. <strong>An <em>estimated<\/em> 536 white babies are killed by abortion every day<\/strong>; nearly 11 white babies will die by abortion <em>for every 100 live births<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Hispanic Americans made up <strong>19.2%<\/strong> of people living in the United States but accounted for <strong><em>21.2%<\/em><\/strong> of abortions. <strong>An <em>estimated<\/em> 356 Hispanic babies are killed by abortion every day<\/strong>, nearly 17 Hispanic babies will die by abortion <em>for every 100 live births.\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Data regarding race\/ethnicity on abortion is limited<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>There are no federal mandates to report all abortions, and only a limited number of states choose to report abortions by race and ethnicity.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC noted:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Only 32 reporting areas reported race and ethnicity data to CDC that met CDC\u2019s reporting standards. Certain areas that either do not report to CDC (e.g., California) or do not report race and ethnicity data (e.g., Illinois) have sufficiently large populations of racial and ethnic minority groups that the absence of data from these areas reduces the representativeness of CDC data for these variables.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In addition, because of the variability in data collection for race and ethnicity among reporting areas, data for specific racial and ethnic groups beyond Black, White, and Hispanic are not requested or reported,&#8221; the CDC claimed.<\/p>\n<p>According to the CDC, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/73\/ss\/ss7307a1.htm?s_cid=ss7307a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022<\/a>,\u00a0&#8220;20 reporting areas&#8230; did not report, did not report by race and ethnicity, or did not meet reporting standards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Exclusions for race and ethnicity in 2022 included &#8220;Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York City, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Wisconsin. While Arkansas, Connecticut, and New York City were added to the 2022 reporting areas, state such as\u00a0 New York State, North Dakota, and Rhode Island which reported data in 2021 did not do so in 2022,&#8221; the CDC wrote.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Abortion percentages by race<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>What is particularly interesting about the CDC report is that it reveals that abortion percentages among communities of color <em>decreased<\/em> in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\">2022<\/a>, while percentages among white women <em>increased<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>According to the CDC, in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\">2022<\/a>, \u201cnon-Hispanic White (White) women and non-Hispanic Black (Black) women accounted for the highest percentages of all abortions (31.9% and 39.5%, respectively), and Hispanic women and non-Hispanic women in the other race category accounted for lower percentages (21.2% and 7.3%, respectively) \u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Increases<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>White women<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; <strong>Up nearly six percent<\/strong> (5.63%), from 30.2% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/72\/ss\/pdfs\/ss7209a1-H.pdf\">2021<\/a> to 31.9% in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\">2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;Other&#8221; (not Black or Hispanic)<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; <strong>Up over 12%<\/strong> (12.30%), from 6.5% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/72\/ss\/pdfs\/ss7209a1-H.pdf\">2021<\/a>\u00a0to 7.3% in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\">2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Decreases<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Black women<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; <strong>Down nearly five percent<\/strong> (4.81%), from 41.5% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/72\/ss\/pdfs\/ss7209a1-H.pdf\">2021<\/a> to 39.5% in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\">2022<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Hispanic women<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; <strong>Down nearly three percent<\/strong> (2.75%), from 21.8% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/72\/ss\/pdfs\/ss7209a1-H.pdf\">2021<\/a> to 21.2% in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\">2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These numbers were unlike previous years. While CDC data among communities of color for 2022 is shifting in the right direction, more current data from the Guttmacher Institute is still troublesome.<\/p>\n<p>Guttmacher Institute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/2023\/01\/inequity-us-abortion-rights-and-access-end-roe-deepening-existing-divides\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/factsheet\/fb_induced_abortion.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2014<\/a> on race previously showed a disproportionate impact on women of color, and this has continued into later years. The most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/fact-sheet\/induced-abortion-united-states#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent data<\/a> (June 2021\u2013July 2022) on the characteristics of people having clinician-provided abortions in the United States gathered by Guttmacher found that &#8220;proportions of people obtaining an abortion were Black (29%), Latinx (30%) or non-Hispanic White (30%). Four percent were Asian and 7% identified as another race or ethnicity or as more than one race.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.plannedparenthood.org\/uploads\/filer_public\/6d\/77\/6d775c96-9afd-41ec-a3c8-ce56a799a6be\/230509-irreplaceable-role-factsheet-p01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021<\/a>, nearly half of Planned Parenthood\u2019s 2.1 million clients were people of color, with more than 581,000 patients who identified as Latino and more than 360,000 patients who identified as Black. In 2022, the abortion corporation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthoodaction.org\/communities\/stand-with-black-women\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> serving &#8220;more than 400,000 Black patients a year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood does not share statistics regarding how many abortions were sold to women of color.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Total Abortion Estimates: CDC\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Population data\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/other\/state-indicator\/distribution-by-raceethnicity\/?currentTimeframe=1&amp;sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Location%22,%22sort%22:%22asc%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a>\u00a0by KFF (<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/public-broadasting-fund-abortion-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kaiser<\/a>) indicates that abortion disproportionately impacts communities of color, specifically Black and Hispanic populations. Total abortion\u00a0<em>estimates<\/em> by race\/ethnicity were calculated by multiplying 2022 <em>abortion<\/em> <em>percentages<\/em> reported by the CDC with the <em>total<\/em> number of abortions (613,383<em>)<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>White Americans (57.7% of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/other\/state-indicator\/distribution-by-raceethnicity\/?currentTimeframe=1&amp;sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Location%22,%22sort%22:%22asc%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022<\/a> population; accounting for <em>31.9%<\/em> of abortions in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\">2022<\/a>): 195,669 abortions (estimated)<\/li>\n<li>Black Americans (11.7% of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/other\/state-indicator\/distribution-by-raceethnicity\/?currentTimeframe=1&amp;sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Location%22,%22sort%22:%22asc%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022<\/a> population; accounting for <em>39.5%<\/em> of abortions in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\">2022<\/a>): 242,286 abortions (estimated)<\/li>\n<li>Hispanic Americans (19.2% of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/other\/state-indicator\/distribution-by-raceethnicity\/?currentTimeframe=1&amp;sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Location%22,%22sort%22:%22asc%22%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022<\/a> population; accounting for <em>21.2%<\/em> of abortions in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/first-cdc-report-dobbs-abortions-decreased-2022\/\">2022<\/a>): 130,037 abortions (estimated)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_322483\" style=\"width: 1442px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-322483\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-322483 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/CDC-abortion-stats-by-race-ethnicity-for-2022.jpg\" alt=\"CDC abortion stats by race ethnicity in communities of color for 2022\" width=\"1432\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/CDC-abortion-stats-by-race-ethnicity-for-2022.jpg 1432w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/CDC-abortion-stats-by-race-ethnicity-for-2022-300x71.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/CDC-abortion-stats-by-race-ethnicity-for-2022-700x165.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/CDC-abortion-stats-by-race-ethnicity-for-2022-768x181.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/CDC-abortion-stats-by-race-ethnicity-for-2022-500x118.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1432px) 100vw, 1432px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-322483\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">CDC abortion stats by race ethnicity in communities of color for 2022<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Between 2010 and 2022 (excluding 2017), it is estimated that nearly 3 million babies have been aborted by Black women.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Abortion Rate and Ratio, CDC<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The abortion rate (<strong>abortions per 1,000 women aged 15\u201344 years<\/strong>) and ratio (<strong>abortions per 1,000 live births<\/strong>) decreased between 2021 and 2022 among white, Black, and Hispanic women \u2014 and only increased among the &#8220;other&#8221; category.<\/p>\n<p>Between 2021 and 2022:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The abortion rate for white women (6.4 v 5.7) decreased nearly 11% (10.94%), while abortion ratios (116 v. 106) decreased nearly nine percent (8.62%).<\/li>\n<li>The abortion rate among Black women (28.6 v 24.4) decreased nearly 15% (14.68%), while abortion ratios (498 v 429 ) decreased nearly 14% (13.86%).<\/li>\n<li>The abortion rate among Hispanic women (12.3 v 11.6) decreased nearly six percent (5.69%), while abortion ratios (186 v 165) decreased over 11% (11.29%).<\/li>\n<li>In the &#8220;other&#8221; category, abortion rates (9.2 v 9.4) and ratios (179 v. 182) actually increased 2.17% and 1.68% respectively.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;White women had the lowest abortion rate (5.7 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15\u201344 years) and ratio (106 abortions per 1,000 live births), and Black women had the highest abortion rate (24.4 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15\u201344 years) and ratio (429 abortions per 1,000 live births),&#8221; CDC wrote of the 2022 data.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_322486\" style=\"width: 997px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-322486\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-322486\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Abortion-percentages-race-ethnicity-CDC-2022.jpg\" alt=\"Abortion percentages race ethnicity CDC 2010-2022\" width=\"987\" height=\"528\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Abortion-percentages-race-ethnicity-CDC-2022.jpg 987w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Abortion-percentages-race-ethnicity-CDC-2022-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Abortion-percentages-race-ethnicity-CDC-2022-700x374.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Abortion-percentages-race-ethnicity-CDC-2022-768x411.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Abortion-percentages-race-ethnicity-CDC-2022-500x267.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 987px) 100vw, 987px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-322486\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abortion percentages race ethnicity CDC 2010-2022<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Breaking this down further, we found that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Black abortion rate was\u00a0<em><strong>more than four times higher<\/strong><\/em> (4.3) than the white abortion rate (24.4 v 5.7) and over <em><strong>twice as high<\/strong><\/em> as the Hispanic abortion rate (24.4 v 11.6).\u00a0 The Black abortion ratio was <strong><em>nearly four times higher<\/em><\/strong> than the white abortion ratio (429 v. 106) and <em><strong>2.6<em>\u00a0<\/em>times higher<\/strong><\/em> than the Hispanic abortion ratio (429 v. 165).<\/li>\n<li>The Hispanic abortion rate was\u00a0<em><strong>over two times higher <\/strong><\/em>than\u00a0the white abortion rate (11.6 v. 5.7) and the Hispanic abortion ratio was <em><strong>nearly 1.6 times higher<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>than the white abortion ratio (106 v. 165).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Births v. Abortion<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/\/data\/nvsr\/nvsr73\/nvsr73-02.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022<\/a>, 3,667,758 total births were registered in the United States. Out of those, the CDC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nvss\/births.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Vital Statistics<\/a> system <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/nvsr\/nvsr73\/nvsr73-02.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recorded<\/a> 1,840,739 births among white mothers (9.5% birth rate), 511,439 births among Black mothers (12.3% birth rate), and 937,421 births among Hispanic mothers (14.7% birth rate). Birth rates are births per 1,000 population in each specified group.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In 2022, the Black abortion rate (24.4%) was nearly twice as high (1.98) as the Black birth rate (12.3%)<\/strong>. According to the data, while the Black population saw a 12.3% birth rate (births per 1,000 population in specified group) in 2022, they saw whopping 24.4% abortion rate (abortions per 1,000 women aged 15\u201344 years) that same year. And the CDC report tragically claimed there were 429 abortions per 1,000 live births that same year.<\/p>\n<p>In places like New York City, where Black abortions previously outnumbered Black births, the most recent statistics reveal that Black births have outpaced Black abortions in New York City for the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-york-pregnancy-centers-4-million-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">past several years<\/a>. Prior to and including 2016, the data revealed that more Black babies were aborted in NYC than had been born. However, in 2017 that trend began to reverse and continued past <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/assets\/doh\/downloads\/pdf\/vs\/2020sum.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2020<\/a> into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/assets\/doh\/downloads\/pdf\/vs\/2021sum.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021<\/a> (the latest published data). In 2021, NYC documented 17,608 live Black births and 14,959 abortions of Black babies.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_314107\" style=\"width: 429px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-314107\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-314107 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Black-births-v-abortions-in-New-York-City-2000-to-2021-Graph-Live-Action-News.jpg\" alt=\"Black births v abortions in New York City 2000 to 2021 Graph Live Action News\" width=\"419\" height=\"675\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-314107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Black-births-v-abortions-in-New-York-City-2000-to-2021-Graph-Live-Action-News.jpg 419w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/Black-births-v-abortions-in-New-York-City-2000-to-2021-Graph-Live-Action-News-186x300.jpg 186w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 419px) 100vw, 419px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-314107\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Black births v abortions in New York City 2000 to 2021 Graph Live Action News<\/p><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Abortion by Gestation, CDC<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/73\/ss\/ss7307a1.htm?s_cid=ss7307a1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">30 reporting areas<\/a>, by race and ethnicity, 77.1% of abortions obtained by Black women occurred at \u22649 weeks\u2019 gestation, compared with 79.4% by non-Hispanic women in the other race category, 80.5% by White women, and 81.8% by Hispanic women,&#8221; CDC wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Conversely, 5.3% of abortions obtained by Hispanic women occurred after 13 weeks\u2019 gestation, compared with 6.0% by White women, 6.8% by Black women, and 7.2% by non-Hispanic women in the other race category,&#8221; the 2022 CDC report stated.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Abortion Compared to Leading Causes of Death, by Race\/Ethnicity<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Leading cause of death data has not been published for 2022. However, data for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/nvsr\/nvsr73\/nvsr73-04.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021<\/a> reveals that COVID-19 ranked overwhelmingly high among the causes of death among white, Black, and Hispanic populations.<\/p>\n<p>Excluding deaths from COVID-19, the data reveals that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Black abortions (estimated at 242,286) in 2022 nearly outnumbered the <strong>top six leading causes<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>of\u00a0<\/strong><strong>death, excluding COVID-19 <\/strong>(250,491), for Black Americans in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/nvsr\/nvsr73\/nvsr73-04.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021<\/a> combined (2022 cause of death data is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nvss\/leading-causes-of-death.htm#publications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not yet<\/a>\u00a0available).\u00a0Black abortion numbers (<em>estimated<\/em>) were nearly 17 times greater than homicides committed on Black Americans (242,286 v. 14,313) in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/nvsr\/nvsr73\/nvsr73-04.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Hispanic abortions (estimated at 130,037) in 2022 nearly outnumbered the <strong>top four leading causes<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>of\u00a0<\/strong><strong>death, excluding COVID-19 <\/strong>(133,791) for Hispanic Americans in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/nvsr\/nvsr73\/nvsr73-04.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021<\/a> combined (2022 cause of death data is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nvss\/leading-causes-of-death.htm#publications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not yet<\/a>\u00a0available). Wade<\/em> mid year (June 2022). During this time, abortion facilities were forced to close or relocate.
