{"id":321539,"date":"2024-11-12T14:51:04","date_gmt":"2024-11-12T20:51:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=321539"},"modified":"2024-11-12T15:13:13","modified_gmt":"2024-11-12T21:13:13","slug":"amarillo-sanctuary-unborn-fails-pro-life-opposition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/amarillo-sanctuary-unborn-fails-pro-life-opposition\/","title":{"rendered":"Amarillo Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance fails, with help from self-proclaimed &#8216;pro-life&#8217; opposition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><i>Disclaimer: The opinions expressed in this guest post are solely those of the guest author.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the City of Amarillo (pop. 202,408) became the first city in the history of Texas to reject a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sanctuarycitiesfortheunborn.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SCFTU) ordinance on a citywide ballot. A total of 40.54% (27,544) voted FOR the measure with 59.46% (40,392) voting AGAINST the measure. The ordinance would have protected unborn children and their moms from being taken for elective abortions across state lines and prohibited abortion-inducing drugs from being mailed into the City of Amarillo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both Live Action Victory\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/liveactionvictory.org\/live-action-victory-voter-guide-2024\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2024 Voter Guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Texas Right To Life\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasrighttolifepac.com\/voterguide\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texas Pro-Life 2024 Voter Guide<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> encouraged Amarillo voters to vote in favor of Prop A. Had a majority voted FOR Prop A, Amarillo would have become the 53rd city in Texas and the 70th city in the nation to pass a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sanctuarycitiesfortheunborn.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SCFTU<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ordinance. Amarillo would also have become the sixth pro-life ballot victory in Texas, following victories in Lubbock (May <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/texasscorecard.com\/local\/dickson-lubbock-becomes-26th-city-in-the-us-to-outlaw-abortion\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2021<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and Abilene, San Angelo, Plainview, and Athens (November <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/texasscorecard.com\/commentary\/abilene-athens-plainview-and-san-angelo-pass-local-abortion-bans\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2022<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amarillo\u2019s proposed SCFTU <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/texasscorecard.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/amarillo-scftu-ordinance-12-29-2023.docx.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ordinance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was opposed by many influential leaders in the community, including Mayor Cole Stanley, Councilman Tom Scherlen, Hope Choice Pregnancy Centers Executive Director Candy Gibbs, Randall County Assistant District Attorney and Planned Parenthood Texas Votes Speaker\u2019s Bureau member <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/aubreyreinhardt\/details\/volunteering-experiences\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aubrey Birkenfeld<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, national <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.womensmarch.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women\u2019s March<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Executive Director <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.womensmarch.com\/team\/rachel-oleary-carmona\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rachel O\u2019Leary Carmona<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and former CEO of Planned Parenthood of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amarillo.com\/story\/opinion\/letters\/2024\/11\/01\/letter-what-about-the-amarillo-sanctuary-city-ordinance-on-the-ballot\/75815425007\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Claudia Stravato<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Several local groups in the community also publicly opposed the measure, including <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amarillorfa.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amarillo Reproductive Freedom Alliance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ARFA), <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20241008091239\/https:\/\/amarillofreedom.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amarillo Freedom PAC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Board of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/amarillotribune.org\/2024\/11\/04\/prcms-members-board-clash\/?fbclid=IwY2xjawGcjAJleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHYlJlPvbTTDMutbaYMEO9t3nYSYRktyTKUh9zTLSs71DsMu3FbjPgTTS4w_aem_G9_TjQA2wnTzB4ypafer4Q\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Potter-Randall County Medical Society<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the League of Women Voters of Amarillo, the Potter County Democrat Party, the Randall County Democrat Party, and Conservative Patriots 4 Texas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Amarillo Globe-News <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amarillo.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2024\/11\/06\/election-follow-abortion-travel-ordinance-charter-amendments\/76089881007\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that Mayor Stanley,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cwho opposed Proposition A, expressed relief and pride in the voter\u2019s decision.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mayor Stanley told the local news outlet, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I&#8217;m super proud of the council for doing their job.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our job is to represent the people, not just those who voted for us, but everyone in Amarillo. We brought an extremely divisive issue to the public, and the people had their say.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mayor Stanley went on to accuse the measure of not aligning with state law and called the measure <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cconfusing as hell.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Councilman Scherlen also <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cexpressed satisfaction with the outcome.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several national and statewide pro-abortion groups who had opposed the measure also declared victory. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the past few years, the Women\u2019s March has been a key player in the battle for abortion access in Amarillo. It was the Women\u2019s March constantly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/action.womensmarch.com\/events\/protest-action-in-amarillo-taking-the-circus-to-the-clown\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pressuring<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Federal District Court Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. the FDA<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Thankfully, Judge Kacsmaryk stood firm. Unfortunately, when the Amarillo City Council members found themselves being <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/politicalemails.org\/messages\/1229483\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pressured<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the Women\u2019s March, the City Council caved, voting <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/betrayed-amarillo-sanctuary-unborn-vote-mayor\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">against<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the lifesaving ordinance. A multitude of emails over the last several years revealed. that the Women\u2019s March engaged in an aggressive campaign <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/texasscorecard.com\/commentary\/womens-march-how-a-national-pro-abortion-organization-is-targeting-amarillo\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">targeting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the City of Amarillo, with many of the emails focused on stopping the proposed Amarillo SCFTU Initiative.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_321541\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-321541\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-321541 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/womens-march-love-thy-neighbor-billboard-700x465.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/womens-march-love-thy-neighbor-billboard-700x465.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/womens-march-love-thy-neighbor-billboard-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/womens-march-love-thy-neighbor-billboard-768x510.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/womens-march-love-thy-neighbor-billboard-500x332.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/womens-march-love-thy-neighbor-billboard-360x240.jpg 360w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/womens-march-love-thy-neighbor-billboard.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-321541\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amarillo Freedom&#8217;s &#8220;Love Thy Neighbor&#8221; billboard against Prop A in Amarillo (Photo: Mark Lee Dickson)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In October, Rachel O\u2019Leary Carmona, their Executive Director, told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.notus.org\/2024-election\/abortion-amarillo-texas-kacsmaryk\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NOTUS<\/span><\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is what\u2019s on the surface of this initiative, but there\u2019s also the rest of the iceberg, which is to say that this is the tip of the spear of a very networked and interconnected campaign that aims to create a de facto abortion ban. <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s one of the smartest ballot initiatives, or it seems small on its face, that could have widespread consequences nationally.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Tuesday, the Women\u2019s March celebrated the defeat of Prop A, p<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">osting on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/womensmarch\/status\/1854033382964932957\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">X<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amarillo showed up and won! Prop A\u2014the abortion travel ban pushed by Christian extremists\u2014has been defeated! Endless gratitude and love to the unstoppable women of Amarillo Reproductive Freedom Alliance and everyone who showed up with us. Huge thanks to every single one of you who chipped in, made calls, and knocked on doors to help defeat this ordinance. This victory comes after months of local organizing. The message is clear: Texans want to protect reproductive freedom \u2014 and will do so when given the opportunity.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Texas Freedom Network, which had worked with the ACLU of Texas to defeat the proposed SCFTU Ordinance in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/texasscorecard.com\/commentary\/city-of-clarendon-rejects-ordinance-outlawing-abortion-and-abortion-trafficking\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">City of Clarendon<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also celebrated the defeat of Prop A. Their press release <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tfn.org\/amarillo-voters-reject-prop-a-anti-abortion-travel-ban\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Texans are not prisoners of the state, and this state does not own our bodies. We are grateful that Amarillo voters have chosen freedom by rejecting Prop A. This ordinance was an example of massive government overreach, unnecessary cruelty, and a clear violation of the Constitution. Texans deserve freedom over our own bodies and futures, without an extremist minority consistently chipping away at our autonomy and constitutional rights . . . <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The majority of Texans support access to abortion, yet the same people who concocted our six-week abortion ban continue pushing their unpopular anti-choice, anti-freedom agenda . . . We as voters and Texans must be vigilant in organizing our communities against plots like Prop A, and our fight to go beyond Roe\u2019s protections can never stop . . . The rejection of Prop A is a celebration of freedom.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While pro-abortion forces celebrated the defeat of Prop A, pro-life organizations recognized the loss.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A statement released by Project Destiny Texas, a Lubbock-based group, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/projectdestiny.lubbock\/posts\/pfbid02W3UdNWHJrhgQZhiDPyMyytd65RTPuRnFPMhZDo7jiqrEUJa3PpteC1AFpPPYBtt7l\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">read<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a hard and sad day in the pro life movement. Amarillo became the first city to Vote against LIFE in our state. We have no words that can comfort but will continue to work in saving pre-born babies&#8217; lives and protecting moms from the traumas of abortion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. John Seago, President of Texas Right To Life, shared:\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fact that national and state pro-abortion groups were able to defeat the citizen-led Pro-Life local ordinance in Amarillo is tragic. The tragedy of Prop A is compounded by the fact that these groups used some of the most manipulative and deceptive messaging that the Pro-Life movement in Texas has ever seen. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These radical Pro-abortion groups like the Women&#8217;s March did not argue that voters should support abortion, instead they lied about Prop A, Texas Pro-Life laws, and poured in money to flood the city with false accusations against the measure that would appeal to conservatives and Christians in Amarillo.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pro-Life Proposition A would have enacted a carefully crafted ordinance that would allow Amarillo citizens to fight back against the new tactics the abortion industry is using to bring abortion pills into Texas and women and minors out-of-state for abortion. The ones whose limbs will be ripped apart from their bodies. The mothers who will suffer mental and emotional pain. The ones who chose along the way not to stand up and fight for them, whatever their reason may be. My heart breaks for them. All will give an account.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amarillo resident Bonnie Burnett shared, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will not pretend this is not a devastating loss. It is. It was a gut punch.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burnett placed the blame for the loss on community leaders who claim to be pro-life but whose public stances aided the pro-abortion opposition. Burnett\u2019s strongest criticism was for Mayor Stanley, who went on a local Christian radio station, Kingdom Keys, proclaiming, \u201cYou can be pro-life and still vote against Prop A.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burnett shared, \u201cT<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he Bible is clear on this topic. The shedding of innocent blood is a SIN. We are called as Christians to protect the sanctity of ALL life and put legislation in place to do so.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burnett also placed blame on Candy Gibbs, the Executive Director of Hope Choice Pregnancy Centers. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HopeChoiceAmarillo\/posts\/pfbid02TwVLn8F3sLjyZh7xxv1a9ynGabNyfV95YoNqFrPjAqhEP8S8iiE9J3yzc3nv9wJ7l\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">May 28<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Hope Choice posted on Facebook,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cThe petition for the Sanctuary City for the Unborn will be discussed at today\u2019s City Council meeting. First, Gibbs took issue with the proposed ordinance\u2019s support of Texas\u2019 Alternatives to Abortion (Thriving Texas Families) program and the funds that are distributed to pregnancy centers across the state through organizations like the Texas Pregnancy Care Network. Second, Gibbs took issue with telling people they could not drive others to an abortion facility. And third, Gibbs took issue with the law not exempting parents and grandparents from being sued \u2013 if they were to assist in their daughter\u2019s or granddaughter&#8217;s abortion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After her presentation, former Planned Parenthood CEO Claudia Stravato thanked Gibbs for her words before the city council.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 22-minute presentation by Gibbs was full of misinformation about the Alternatives to Abortion program. What made her presentation even more confusing was the fact that the Texas Heartbeat Act, which Gibbs claimed to support, allows for lawsuits against anyone who aids or abets an illegal abortion \u2013 <em>even if the one who is aiding or abetting the illegal abortion is a parent or a grandparent<\/em>. This caused many to wonder if Gibbs was interested in repealing this part of the Texas Heartbeat Act. This presentation, unfortunately, gained thousands of views throughout the city.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These statements made by Gibbs came <strong>after<\/strong> she and the Board of Directors of Hope Choice received a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/img1.wsimg.com\/blobby\/go\/4b2b0d23-d175-4bfb-a8d9-71911a3ad695\/downloads\/NIFLA_20240524_133356.pdf?ver=1720027072895\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">letter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from Thomas Glessner, President and Founder of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA). NIFLA represents more than 1,700 pregnancy centers across America, including more than 120 clinics in Texas, including Hope Choice in Amarillo. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The letter from NIFLA, dated May 24, stated, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNIFLA fully supports the proposed Sanctuary City for the Unborn Ordinance which was brought forth by the citizen initiative petition in your city,&#8221; and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">continued:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIFLA does not support and strongly opposes any changes to the ordinance that would add exceptions absent from any other Texas abortion law, as this would be inconsistent with state law and could have a detrimental effect across the state and the nation. Candy Gibbs, the executive director of Hope Choice, spoke at the May 28 meeting of the Amarillo City Council. I appreciate her comments about supporting women and babies in our community.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/fairlyfortexas\/posts\/pfbid0SRo3rc6BpcFY9vT8VYHMDYj7EqxQRvF9ZrPPsxdmhDp4NVqzhBXPQV85QkTt3QxLl\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">June 8<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, three days before the Mayor and City Council were to vote on the ordinance, Caroline Fairly, then-Republican nominee for Texas House, re-shared the video of Gibbs\u2019 testimony on Facebook, writing:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amidst this sanctuary city discussion, I find Candy&#8217;s words incredibly encouraging and inspiring. During my campaign, I emphasized that we cannot allow the pro-life movement to be divided. It took 50 years of unity to overturn Roe v. Wade, and we must maintain that solidarity to continue making progress. I&#8217;m praying for wisdom for our city council. I&#8217;m thankful for people like Candy Gibbs, who have dedicated the past 29 years to protecting the unborn. Her humble leadership is truly inspiring.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fairly took this position after she had been reminded that her mentor\u2019s position contradicted the scope of those who could be held accountable under the enforcement mechanism of the Texas Heartbeat Act; misrepresented Texas\u2019 Alternatives to Abortion program; and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/img1.wsimg.com\/blobby\/go\/4b2b0d23-d175-4bfb-a8d9-71911a3ad695\/downloads\/SCFTU-Elected-Official-Letter-August-2023%20(1)%20.pdf?ver=1720027072895\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">opposed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 20 Texas Senators and Representatives who encouraged the passage of Sanctuary for the Unborn Ordinances prohibiting abortion trafficking in cities and counties throughout the State of Texas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burnett called Gibbs\u2019 actions before the city council reckless, stating: <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her endorsement for Prop A would have encouraged our pro-life community in Amarillo to vote in favor of Prop A, which could have secured a win for Prop A. Yet she refused to give her open support and endorsement to a city ordinance that would have saved the lives of thousands of babies.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Burnett claimed Gibbs\u2019 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201clack of action\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and her<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201ctip-toeing around\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> this pro-life issue<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">caused<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cmore confusion and division\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in their city. Burnett admonished Gibbs for failing to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cstand up for life which is literally her job description,\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and stated, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was gross negligence on her part and she completely dropped the ball.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HopeChoiceAmarillo\/posts\/pfbid02TfmGXQqhs1vMg36u8pU1Zq3cLgTTbvTYSztwz46xyxoKYNETLwjVRmE9DXGFs8M6l\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">November 11<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, six days after Prop A failed, Candy Gibbs posted Episode 27 of the Candy Gibbs Podcast titled, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSanctuary City for the Unborn.\u201d<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the podcast, Gibbs stated that Hope Choice did not come out publicly in support of the ordinance because Hope Choice does not take political stands. These statements appear to contradict the statement posted to Hope Choice\u2019s Facebook page on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/HopeChoiceAmarillo\/posts\/pfbid02TwVLn8F3sLjyZh7xxv1a9ynGabNyfV95YoNqFrPjAqhEP8S8iiE9J3yzc3nv9wJ7l\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">May 28<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which Gibbs <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/candykgibbs\/posts\/pfbid02x7pST3rLvJWfRZ3j3HNNpCQpaiAcA6jGekbbjhNwamhF7ZvnsX4vZYrt5kpaj1Jtl\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">shared<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the same day.
