The media continues to spread the lie that late abortion is rare, that no one would get an abortion extremely late in pregnancy, and that if late abortions happen, they’re only done for the most serious reasons.<\/p>\n

Live Action News has debunked<\/a> these claims<\/a> many<\/a> times<\/a>, but now we’re getting a little help from the CEO of the National Abortion Federation (NAF) herself, who admitted that women “need” abortion “care” well into the later stages of pregnancy, because… well, really, any reason will do.<\/p>\n

In a statement to Axios<\/a>, NAF CEO Brittany Fonteno spoke about Arizona’s upcoming ballot initiative<\/a> which would enshrine the “right” to abortion in the state’s constitution. Fonteno stressed the importance of the initiative because it would extend the state’s current 15 weeks gestation cutoff (end of the first trimester) for abortion. She claimed that women need late abortions for many reasons, which “include not realizing a pregnancy until after the first trimester, not being able to secure an appointment before the 15-week limit and learning of an issue that will not allow them to carry a healthy pregnancy to term.”<\/p>\n

“While the\u00a0majority of abortions take place in the first trimester, there is still a need for care after 15 weeks,” Fonteno said. “Rather than trying to stigmatize this care we should be supporting people in making their own decisions about their health care.”<\/p>\n

In fact, though the amendment would allow abortion up to the point of fetal viability for any reason, it contains extremely broad exceptions to \u201cprotect the life or physical<\/strong> or mental health<\/strong> of the pregnant individual\u201d after fetal viability (defined as \u201cthe point in the pregnancy when, in the good-faith judgment of a treating health care professional, the fetus has a significant likelihood of survival outside the uterus.\u201d)<\/p>\n

Fonteno said that even if Proposition 139<\/a> passes, NAF would keep fighting for abortion even later<\/em> in pregnancy.<\/p>\n

“[W]e can’t forget that people do need care later in pregnancy so there will need to be continued work,” she stated.<\/p>\n

Though it is touted as health care, there is nothing caring about an abortion procedure, which is the violent and gruesome intentional death of a child.<\/p>\n

In the second trimester, the abortion is typically done via a dilation and evacuation (D&E) procedure, in which the child is dismembered limb from torso before being pulled piece-by-piece from the womb. In the third trimester, the preborn baby is often lethally injected before labor is induced and the mother gives birth to a stillborn child.<\/p>\n

There is never<\/em> a reason to put a child through such a horrific procedure; if for some reason a mother is in danger, the child could quickly be delivered without first being deliberately killed.<\/p>\n
