{"id":320206,"date":"2024-10-13T13:32:14","date_gmt":"2024-10-13T18:32:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=320206"},"modified":"2024-10-11T16:00:22","modified_gmt":"2024-10-11T21:00:22","slug":"whoopi-goldberg-christians-catholics-empathy-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/whoopi-goldberg-christians-catholics-empathy-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Whoopi Goldberg tries to paint &#8216;Christians and Catholics&#8217; as lacking empathy regarding abortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last week on &#8220;The View,&#8221; co-host Whoopi Goldberg attempted to make a moral appeal to Christians and Catholics to remind them of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/is-this-the-way-jesus-wants-you-to-be-whoopi-suggests-jesus-is-cool-with-killing-babies\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">what she viewed as Jesus\u2019 thoughts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on caring for women who want to end the lives of their preborn children by abortion \u2014 and naturally, the sentiment is that the only way to care for women seeking abortion is to essentially forget about the fact that a preborn human is killed by abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These comments came about after the co-hosts discussed Melania Trump\u2019s statements regarding her own support for abortion access. Co-host Sunny Hostin then remarked that although she herself proclaims to be Catholic and \u201cagainst abortion,\u201d she feels her own religious views shouldn\u2019t inform others\u2019 decisions on what to \u201cbelieve\u201d regarding abortion. Using Hostin\u2019s statement as a a stepping point, Goldberg attempted to use something referred to by commentator Allie Beth Stuckey as \u201ctoxic empathy,\u201d to call out religious parties on their apparent lack of care for women seeking abortions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Addressing the \u201cChristians and Catholics\u201d watching, Whoopi not only seemed to suggest that there is no real empathy or care being shown to abortion-minded women, but that there is only <strong>one<\/strong> human being in an abortion situation that people of faith should be concerned about:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2026 if you are concerned about what this does to a human being in their life, is this the way Jesus wants you to be? Is this the way Jesus wants you to act? Doesn\u2019t Jesus want you to be able to say to somebody, \u2019Come over here, I know you must be going through somethin\u2019 tough.\u2019 As opposed to what we\u2019re seeing. This is insane.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Whoopi lectures &#8220;all of those Christians and Catholics out there&#8221; that the only &#8220;human being&#8221; impacted by abortion is the mom.<br \/>\n&#8220;Is this the way Jesus wants you to be? Is this the way Jesus wants you to act?&#8221;<br \/>\nShe also suggests that religious folks don&#8217;t care about folks&#8217; struggles <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8L6JSg8hle\">pic.twitter.com\/8L6JSg8hle<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1841860098290864423?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 3, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stuckey&#8217;s definition of &#8220;toxic empathy&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toxicempathy.com\/\">used in her new book by the same title<\/a> is, according to the book&#8217;s pre-order website, &#8220;a tool of manipulation by left-wing activists who bully people into believing that they must adopt progressive positions to be loving.&#8221; Specifically, according to Stuckey, it is often used against Christians. Stuckey says that as Christians, our empathy must be submitted to &#8220;God\u2019s definitions of love, goodness, and justice.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Stuckey&#8217;s website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toxicempathy.com\/\">states<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>Progressives use catchy mantras to present their perspective as empathetic, like \u201cabortion is healthcare,\u201d \u201clove is love,\u201d or \u201cno human being is illegal,\u201d but in each case, they ignore the other side of the moral equation. For example, abortion is presented as compassionate for the woman, but what about the human life the procedure kills?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This tactic is used to gain support for one set of actions and beliefs while distracting from the other side of the argument that obscures an ugly reality. A common tactic in pro-abortion circles, this sort of &#8220;toxic empathy&#8221; is used to draw attention to the fear of women dying from lack of access to abortion, women suffering while carrying to term a baby conceived in rape, women suffering while pregnant and living in poverty, and so on, while ignoring the truth about the destructive nature of abortion and how it kills human beings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zVk1qM1El9o?si=mvJij48Pajl1ZD5L\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abortion advocates commonly claim that abortion would \u201calleviate\u201d the tough situations in which many women find themselves \u2014 as Goldberg implies. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The truth is that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/rape-survivors-children-exceptions-deserve-heard\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">abortion doesn\u2019t solve any trauma<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/studies-pregnant-rape-choose-life\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rape<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, poverty, or other stress a mother may be facing or has gone through. Abortion kills an innocent human being that has done nothing wrong. This is the ugly truth that statements l<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.faithwire.com\/2024\/10\/04\/whoopi-goldberg-lectures-pro-life-christians-is-this-the-way-jesus-wants-you-to-be\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">like Goldberg\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0are trying to hide. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/susan-adriana-nona-stories-abortion-regret\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abortion regret is real<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and haunts women in the very \u201ctough\u201d situations referenced on &#8220;The View.&#8221; And pro-lifers offer resources for women who are wounded by abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meanwhile, biblical principles have always taught that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bible-isnt-silent-human-life-abortion-know\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">all humans are made in the image of God<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and are instilled with purpose and meaning from conception. This is seen all throughout the Bible, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bible-abortion-pro-life\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from Psalm 139 to Jesus\u2019 own conception<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and birth and beyond. Embracing pregnant women facing difficult situations and offering real and practical aid is the pro-life movement\u2019s foundation and always will be.
