Wade<\/em> was overturned. But her anger is misdirected at the state&#8217;s pro-life law, which is not to blame for Thurman&#8217;s death, despite the abortion industry quickly pointing the finger <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-did-georgias-law-kill-mom\/\">without any proof<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Amber Thurman should still be here.<\/p>\n<p>This is the dangerous reality of abortion bans. Where was the outrage when those women died in pro-abortion states and while <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> was still in place? There&#8217;s a simple explanation: the outrage is selective, and the fury is feigned. Abortion advocates look for (<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-did-georgias-law-kill-mom\/\">and in some cases, actually <em>create<\/em><\/a>) opportunities to blame abortion <em>restrictions<\/em> for harming women, yet consistently turn a blind eye when it is clear that abortion <em>itself<\/em> has harmed women.<\/p>\n<p>After news of Thurman&#8217;s death was publicized by ProPublica (about a year <em>after<\/em> gathering the details from Thurman&#8217;s family), other media immediately began to circulate the story with misleading headlines, claiming that she had died because of a state&#8217;s pro-life laws. That false narrative is now being shared by Harris and others, who are using Thurman&#8217;s death to promote legalized abortion.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is exactly what we feared when Roe was struck down. These are the consequences of Donald Trump&#8217;s actions,&#8221; said Harris.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>This is false.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thurman&#8217;s death comes after years of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-abortion-pill-safer-tylenol-viagra\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lies<\/a> from the pro-abortion media, the abortion industry, and pro-abortion government officials about the dangers of the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p>Women have been dying after taking the abortion pill since the days when <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> was in place, but abortion advocates never seemed to care. In fact, they sometimes buried the truth to protect the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A history of death connected to the abortion pill\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Five initial deaths of unknown women<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After the abortion pill mifepristone was approved for use in the U.S. in 2000, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/2005\/051128\/full\/news051128-10.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">five women died<\/a>. The first died in Canada in 2001 after her uterus became <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/news\/2005\/051128\/full\/news051128-10.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">infected<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/c-sordellii\/about\/index.html#:~:text=also%20called%20C.-,sordellii)%20is%20a%20bacterium%20that%2C%20in%20rare%20cases%2C%20can,being%20infected%2C%20known%20as%20colonization.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clostridium sordellii<\/a>, a bacteria naturally found in the GI tract that can cause infection, sepsis, and fatal toxic shock. The four other women <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-dangerous-safety-requirement\/\">died<\/a> in the same way from Clostridium sordellii infections after taking misoprostol (the second drug in the abortion pill regimen) vaginally.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian woman&#8217;s death was made public on September 10, 2001, leading Beverly Winikoff, founder of Gynuity Health Projects \u2014 the sponsor of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-trial-expands-thwart-fda-safety\/\">controversial abortion pill clinical trials on girls as young as 10<\/a> \u2014 to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/founder-911-saving-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">credit<\/a> the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on America with \u2018saving\u2019 the abortion pill. The woman&#8217;s death never made major headlines.<\/p>\n<p>After those deaths, it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3568698\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">determined<\/a> that misoprostol should also be taken <em>orally<\/em> in an effort to avoid Clostridium sordellii infections. Yet, deaths from infection are still occurring due to incomplete abortions (with retained body parts and pregnancy tissue) associated with the abortion pill. She had been given a non-FDA-approved regimen of the abortion pill at Planned Parenthood and may have administered misoprostol vaginally.<\/p>\n<p>Her father Monty Patterson explained that, 12 days after her 18th birthday, Patterson went to Planned Parenthood and was given the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the fourth day she was admitted to the emergency room of a local hospital,\u201d he said. \u201cShe was examined. She was given painkillers. She complained of bleeding, cramping, constipation and pain. But subsequently she was sent home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite living in a pro-abortion state under <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>, Patterson did not receive the care she needed for her abortion complications.<\/p>\n<p>Seven days after taking the abortion pill, she returned to the hospital complaining of weakness, vomiting, and abdominal pain and she later died from &#8220;a massive bacterial infection as a result of a drug-induced abortion&#8230;&#8221; said her father.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alyona Dixon <\/strong>(Nevada, 2022)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_299274\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-299274\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-299274\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/alyona-dixon-700x379.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"379\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/alyona-dixon-700x379.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/alyona-dixon-300x163.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/alyona-dixon-768x416.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/alyona-dixon-500x271.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/alyona-dixon.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-299274\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Screenshot<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/womans-death-septic-abortion-pill-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alyona Dixon<\/a>, a 24-year-old Las Vegas mother, died from &#8220;septic abortion&#8221; in 2022 just days after obtaining the abortion pill at a Planned Parenthood, according to a wrongful death lawsuit filed in the pro-abortion state of Nevada. The complaint did not name Planned Parenthood; it named Dignity Health&#8217;s Blue Diamond campus, arguing that the medical facility &#8220;should have seen the severity of Dixon&#8217;s problems &#8230; and properly treated her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit alleged that Dignity Health (et al.) \u201cfailed to exercise that degree of care, diligence, and skill ordinarily exercised by nurses, medical providers, medical facilities, doctors, and staff in good standing in the community by, among other things, failing to follow the appropriate standard of care in assessing, evaluating, treating and discharging ALYONA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The case also alleged that Dignity Health \u201cknew or should have known that a female patient with a history of vaginal bleeding and\/or abdominal pain required a pelvic exam and\/or a stat consult with an OB\/GYN to rule out more serious medical conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dixon was about eight weeks pregnant when she took the abortion pill, and abortion is legal for any reason in Nevada up to 24 weeks. Yet, when she needed life-saving medical treatment following her legal, easily accessible abortion, she did not receive it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarah Dunn <\/strong>(United Kingdom, 2020)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-sepsis-death-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sarah Dunn<\/a> died from sepsis after taking the abortion pill in March 2020 in the UK at 31 years old. \u201cGroup A streptococcus sepsis following termination of pregnancy\u201d was found to be the cause of death. Dr. Alison Armor told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10156775\/Mother-five-died-sepsis-four-weeks-having-abortion-despite-contacting-GP-surgery.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a> that this is a known complication of the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, despite the legality of abortion in the UK, Louise Rae, Assistant Coroner for Blackpool &amp; Fylde, said Dunn&#8217;s symptoms were missed on three separate occasions by a general practitioner, a pharmacist, and hospital staff. Dunn was not given antibiotics for hours after she was admitted to the hospital. If she had been, Rae said she may have survived.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch revealed that Dunn&#8217;s abortion was not \u201cadequately supervised.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am concerned that there remains a lack of awareness of sepsis in particular following Early Medical Abortion given how many opportunities there were to think sepsis in this case,\u201d said Rae. \u201cWhilst those giving evidence to me in court are now aware of sepsis and the risks post abortion having reflected on Sarah\u2019s death, I am concerned that there is a lack of awareness of the risk of sepsis following Early Medical Abortions. This lack of awareness in my view risks avoidable future deaths.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amber Thurman <\/strong>(Georgia, 2022)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-did-georgias-law-kill-mom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amber Thurman<\/a> is one of the latest publicized deaths to occur from infection and sepsis after the administration of the abortion pill. ProPublica claimed that Georgia&#8217;s pro-life law prohibits the use of the D&amp;C procedure, but this is untrue. A D&amp;C is completely legal in Georgia unless it is being used to intentionally kill the baby in the womb. While preborn babies are protected from induced abortion in the state, a D&amp;C is legal in situations like Thurman&#8217;s \u2014 and if doctors had acted quickly, she might have survived.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Candi Miller <\/strong>(Georgia, 2022)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-georgia-law-second-woman-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Candi Miller<\/a> learned she was pregnant and was afraid her pregnancy would be dangerous due to her pre-existing health conditions. She ordered abortion pills online from Aid Access, but the abortion pills failed to produce a complete abortion, with parts of Miller\u2019s preborn child left inside of her. It appears that she may have become septic.<\/p>\n<p>According to ProPublica, Miller was scared to see a doctor out of fear of being sent to jail (though the state&#8217;s pro-life law doesn\u2019t allow women to be prosecuted for abortion), so she suffered at home until her husband found her unresponsive. An autopsy revealed fetal tissue still in her uterus, confirming that the abortion had been incomplete. It also found a lethal combination of painkillers, including the dangerous opioid fentanyl, though she had no history of drug use. ProPublica claimed a D&amp;C, which Miller would have needed to remove the remaining body parts and pregnancy tissue, is now a felony in Georgia with exceptions, but this is untrue. It is only illegal when used to deliberately kill a preborn baby.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Two unnamed abortion pill patients <\/strong>(Indiana, 2022)<\/p>\n<p>A lawsuit revealed that these women are not alone.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, it was reported that two maternal deaths were <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/reported-abortion-pill-deaths-tied-indiana-abortionist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> in connection with the administration of the abortion pill by Dr. Amy Caldwell in Indiana. One woman was 31 years old at the time, and 21 weeks pregnant with a child who had a &#8220;chromosomal abnormality.&#8221; According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Amy-Caldwell-06.25.22-Maternal-Death.pdf\">Terminated Pregnancy Report<\/a> dated June 25, 2022, this woman was administered mifepristone and misoprostol \u2014 the abortion pill protocol \u2014 as part of the abortion process, <em>11 weeks past the FDA-approved abortion pill limit<\/em>. Both this woman and her baby died as a result of the abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Another Caldwell patient, age 29, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Amy-Caldwell-04.05.22-maternal-death-1.pdf\">died after taking the abortion pill at seven weeks pregnant<\/a> \u2014 well within the FDA-approved limit. The official causes of death for these two Indiana abortion pill patients were not revealed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unknown victims<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The number of women harmed by the use of the abortion pill may never be fully understood or known.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-significant-gap-fda-abortion-pill-complications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that a <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/23333928211068919\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> found a \u201csignificant\u201d gap in the federal government\u2019s reporting of complications associated with the abortion pill. A 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-abortion-pill-complications-underreported-er-managing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> found that abortion pill complications are underreported. As of 2018, 28 U.S. states <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-dangerous-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">did not require<\/a> post-abortion complications to be reported at all.<\/p>\n<p>The abortion pill is <em>not<\/em> &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-abortion-pill-safer-tylenol-viagra\/\">safer than Tylenol and Viagra<\/a>&#8216; as the abortion industry <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cecile-richards-abortion-pill-safer\/\">claims<\/a>. It&#8217;s actually been shown to be <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-abortion-pill-four-times-dangerous-surgical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four times<\/a> more dangerous for women than a first-trimester surgical abortion and there is a black box <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/carolenovielli\/status\/1836090641115418987?s=46&amp;t=bjzwPoJDR5H_XJbg7q1QoQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warning<\/a> that it can lead to sepsis.<\/p>\n<p>Women deserve the truth.
