Earlier this month, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York (PPGNY) and Planned Parenthood of Northern New England announced<\/a> they were facing serious financial difficulties, with PPGNY even proclaiming they would stop committing late-term abortions due to budgetary issues. But some are raising questions about the so-called financial problems the abortion giant is facing, due to the massive amount of financial support it has received from the state of New York.<\/p>\n

The New York State Catholic Conference recently issued a statement<\/a> saying that while they were happy to see late-term abortions being paused, serious questions have been raised. “Recently, Governor Hochul unilaterally allocated an astounding $35 million to subsidize abortion clinics throughout the state. If Planned Parenthood is now saying it\u2019s too expensive to provide safe care to women in its clinics, we must ask, where exactly are these tens of millions of dollars going?” Kristen Curran, director of government relations for the New York State Catholic Conference, said in the statement.<\/p>\n

Governor Kathy Hochul passed the budget in question earlier this year<\/a>, with $36 million earmarked for abortion facilities in the 2025 budget. Additionally, New York created an abortion fund in response to the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization<\/em> ruling, which overturned Roe v. Wade<\/em>; tens of millions of dollars were given to abortion businesses in multiple<\/a> rounds<\/a> of payments. Hochul also boasted of making the state a safe harbor<\/a> for abortion after pro-life laws were passed in Texas.<\/p>\n

On top of all that, New York already had an abortion access fund<\/a> to help low-income women pay to end their preborn children’s lives, as well as an insurance mandate<\/a> requiring all plans to cover abortion \u2014 including religious employers. The New York Court of Appeals ruled<\/a> earlier this year that the mandate could stand, forcing the Catholic Church to pay for abortions.<\/p>\n

So, as Curran pointed out, the abortion industry in New York is extremely well-funded. How would it be possible for Planned Parenthood to be lacking funding?<\/p>\n

Additionally, the conference noted another problem brewing in New York. \u201cIt also was reported that more than half of Planned Parenthood patients rely on Medicaid,” Curran said. “This statistic represents a glaring failure by the State of New York, demonstrating that the horror of abortion disproportionately affects low-income women. We pray that this shocking news is a wake-up call to our lawmakers. May they steer valuable state resources to those that truly need them and join us as we walk with women in need. Together, we can work to build a place where no mother is pressured to end her pregnancy because of difficult circumstances.”<\/p>\n

While New York heavily funds abortion, it viciously attacks pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) which give women options beyond killing their children. Attorney General Letitia James is being sued<\/a> by multiple PRCs<\/a> who allege that their free speech rights are being violated, after the PRCs were sued by James<\/a> for offering so-called “abortion pill reversal,” a protocol that prescribes progesterone (a hormone that sustains pregnancy) to outcompete the effects of the abortion pill, mifepristone, which blocks progesterone.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, James has also pressured Google to remove PRCs<\/a> from their search results; for her part, Hochul has sought to minimize<\/a> the financial support new mothers can receive from adoptive parents after giving birth.<\/p>\n

It is beyond strange, given all of this information, that abortion businesses would be struggling in New York. Not only is abortion heavily supported, but alternatives to abortion are frequently attacked by state officials. Why is Planned Parenthood having financial difficulties in a state that is funneling so much taxpayer money towards them?<\/p>\n
