Wade<\/em> became the law of the land \u2014 the claims that pro-life laws cause women to die. But today, those abortion advocates have updated their messaging by infusing it with new propaganda: that self-managed abortion \u2014 which they once claimed was <em>deadly<\/em> to women \u2014\u00a0is now \u201csafe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s self-managed abortion (SMA), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/self-managed-abortion-brainchild-abortion-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">set in motion<\/a> by Big Abortion years before <em>Roe<\/em> fell, is largely accomplished through the use of legally obtained abortion pills at home (mifepristone). However, some women reportedly choose to use other methods, such as herbs, being &#8220;hit in the stomach,&#8221; &#8220;lifting heavy objects,&#8221; and even &#8220;inserting an object&#8221; into their bodies in an attempt to abort their children.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Abortion rights activists sending coat hangers to GOP senator <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/tC1DXJyu9m\">https:\/\/t.co\/tC1DXJyu9m<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DhuzPsEHt9\">pic.twitter.com\/DhuzPsEHt9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The Hill (@thehill) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/thehill\/status\/1014003578833424384?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 3, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Women Will Die&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the years leading up to the Supreme Court&#8217;s <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> decision, those promoting abortion&#8217;s decriminalization fabricated data on illegal abortion deaths that were allegedly inflicted with DIY or self-managed methods. As Live Action News has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facts-illegal-abortion-never-thousands-deaths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">documented<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-debunked-thousands-abortion-die\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">time<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fooled-abortion-bans-didnt-thousands-deaths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">again<\/a>, illegal abortions prior to <em>Roe<\/em> did <em>not<\/em> lead to thousands of women dying annually.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, former abortionist Carole Joffe was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/factchecks\/2021\/oct\/13\/viral-image\/deaths-abortions-still-happen-they-declined-sharpl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cited<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/politifact-misleads-rating-roe-abortion-deaths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PolitiFact<\/a> as claiming that illegal abortion deaths prior to <em>Roe<\/em> were caused by \u201cinept\u201d abortion providers as well as women self-managing their own abortions. Joffe made the claims in a training module produced by the University of California San Francisco\u2019s (UCSF) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.innovating-education.org\/2016\/02\/the-history-of-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Innovating Education training<\/a> series, \u201cThe History of Abortion in the US prior to Legalization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd, finally of course, perhaps the largest category of illegal abortions were women desperately trying to do abortions themselves,\u201d Joffe claimed. She\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/129023053\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acknowledged<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0<em>some<\/em>\u00a0women did self-abort with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ppgraction\/status\/1442893407962099719\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coat hangers<\/a>\u201d prior to Roe, but she also claimed that \u201cwe\u2019ll never have an accurate count of how many women died of illegal abortions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/politifact-abortion-expert-debunked-illegal-statistcs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warned<\/a> at the time how the abortion industry was already pushing dangerous DIY abortions by pills.<\/p>\n<p>Joffe&#8217;s claims, and the pre-<em>Roe<\/em> fabrications that claimed hundreds of thousands of women died from illegal abortions, have been debunked. But the American public has been lied to for so long that they believe without legal abortion post-<em>Roe<\/em>, thousands of women will die. And of course, the abortion lobby is using this <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/kamala-harris-debunked-claim-die-abortion-legal\/\">false information<\/a> to frighten the public even today, in an effort to promote legal abortion without limits in every state.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Enter Roe v. Wade<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When the State of Texas responded in the <a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/410\/113\/#F43\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roe v. Wade<\/a> lawsuit, it argued that because illegal abortion was so dangerous, Texas had an interest in protecting women from abortion hazards.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When most criminal abortion laws were first enacted, the procedure was a hazardous one for the woman. This was particularly true prior to the development of antisepsis&#8230; Thus, it has been argued that a State&#8217;s real concern in enacting a criminal abortion law was to protect the pregnant woman, that is, to restrain her from submitting to a procedure that placed her life in serious jeopardy,&#8221; Justice Harry Blackmun <a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/410\/113\/#F43\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>. &#8220;The State has a legitimate interest in seeing to it that abortion, like any other medical procedure, is performed under circumstances that insure maximum safety for the patient. This interest obviously extends at least to the performing physician and his staff, to the facilities involved, to the availability of after-care, and to adequate provision for any complication or emergency that might arise. The prevalence of high mortality rates at illegal &#8216;abortion mills&#8217; strengthens, rather than weakens, the State&#8217;s interest in regulating the conditions under which abortions are performed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In other words, it was assumed that killing preborn children under &#8220;safer&#8221; conditions would protect women&#8217;s lives. There is, of course, no &#8220;safe&#8221; way to kill an innocent human being \u2014 certainly not for the human that is killed. And women still die from legal abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Blackmun added, &#8220;Consequently, <strong>any interest of the State in protecting the woman from an inherently hazardous procedure, except when it would be equally dangerous for her to forgo it, has largely disappeared<\/strong>. Of course, important state interests in the areas of health and medical standards do remain&#8221; (emphasis added).<\/p>\n<p><em>Why had it disappeared<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Because once pro-abortion propagandists saw an opportunity to decriminalize abortion, they began speaking more honestly as to who was committing most <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/thousands-women-werent-dying-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">illegal abortions<\/a>: medical doctors. And even Joffe had to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/politifact-abortion-expert-debunked-illegal-statistcs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acknowledge<\/a> this.<\/p>\n<p>Past Planned Parenthood president Alan Guttmacher <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/1973-video-former-planned-parenthood-eugenicist-president-responds-roe\/\">admitted<\/a>\u00a0to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/1967\/12\/5\/parenthood-president-churchman-debate-reform-of\/\">Harvard Crimson<\/a>\u00a0in 1967 that \u201cSeventy per cent of the illegal abortions in the country are performed by reputable physicians, each thinking himself a knight in white armor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC1373382\/pdf\/amjphnation00308-0022.pdf\">1959<\/a>, Mary S. Calderone, medical director of Planned Parenthood wrote: \u201cAnother corollary fact: physicians of impeccable standing are referring their patients for these illegal abortions to the colleagues whom they know are willing to perform them\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Messaging: &#8216;Self Abortions Are Safe&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Legalized in-clinic abortion under the supposed care of medical professionals was never free of complications and deaths. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-data-2800-daily\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021<\/a> Centers for Disease Control (CDC) data, the number of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-data-cdc-increase-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> legal <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-supporters-dont-care-deaths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion-related deaths<\/a> has now <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-data-2800-daily\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">risen<\/a> to\u00a0<strong><em>460<\/em>\u00a0deaths from\u00a0<em>legal<\/em>\u00a0abortion<\/strong>\u00a0recorded by the CDC between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/72\/ss\/ss7209a1.htm?s_cid=ss7209a1_w#T15_down\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1973 and 2020,<\/a> with additional numbers reportedly killed by <i>illegal\u00a0<\/i>abortions.<\/p>\n<p>This did not stop Big Abortion from going one step further to demedicalize abortion by promoting self-managed abortion as &#8220;safe,&#8221; to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-abortion-pill-medical-supervision\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">push the expansion of the abortion pill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The coat hanger has been a symbol of illegal and unsafe abortion for a long time. Medication abortion is safe, and our study shows patients can take it with minimal supervision. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2DuGJNgH4a\">https:\/\/t.co\/2DuGJNgH4a<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Dr. Daniel Grossman (@DrDGrossman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrDGrossman\/status\/1037321968196956161?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 5, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2018:<\/strong> A consortium of abortion organizations \u2014 Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH), Gynuity Health Projects, and Ibis Reproductive Health \u2014 published a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ibisreproductivehealth.org\/sites\/default\/files\/files\/publications\/US%20research%20roadmap%20self%20managed%20abortion.pdf\">report<\/a> entitled, \u201cA roadmap for research on self-managed abortion in the United States,\u201d to &#8220;normalize&#8221; so-called self-managed abortion.<\/p>\n<p>The report suggested,\u00a0<b>\u201c<\/b>[M]edication abortion could be even further demedicalized through pharmacy dispensing and expansion of telemedicine models\u2014or even making it available over the counter (OTC)\u2014which have the potential to expand access greatly.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_317159\" style=\"width: 1732px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-317159\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-317159\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Abortion-groups-ANSIRH-Gynuity-IBIS-want-to-normalize-self-managed-abortion-2018-stategy.jpg\" alt=\"Abortion groups ANSIRH, Gynuity, IBIS want to normalize self-managed abortion 2018 strategy\" width=\"1722\" height=\"660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Abortion-groups-ANSIRH-Gynuity-IBIS-want-to-normalize-self-managed-abortion-2018-stategy.jpg 1722w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Abortion-groups-ANSIRH-Gynuity-IBIS-want-to-normalize-self-managed-abortion-2018-stategy-300x115.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Abortion-groups-ANSIRH-Gynuity-IBIS-want-to-normalize-self-managed-abortion-2018-stategy-700x268.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Abortion-groups-ANSIRH-Gynuity-IBIS-want-to-normalize-self-managed-abortion-2018-stategy-768x294.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Abortion-groups-ANSIRH-Gynuity-IBIS-want-to-normalize-self-managed-abortion-2018-stategy-1536x589.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Abortion-groups-ANSIRH-Gynuity-IBIS-want-to-normalize-self-managed-abortion-2018-stategy-500x192.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1722px) 100vw, 1722px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-317159\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abortion groups ANSIRH, Gynuity, IBIS want to normalize self-managed abortion 2018 strategy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Guttmacher Institute, a former \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-independent-is-guttmacher-from-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">special affiliate<\/a>\u201d of Planned Parenthood, once <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/dangerous-self-abortion-pill-push\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a> self-managed abortion as ending a pregnancy \u201cwithout<b><i>\u00a0direct supervision by a health care provider<\/i><\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/gpr2104118.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> which seemed to soft-pedal \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-pushing-home-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">self-managed abortion<\/a>,\u201d published by Guttmacher, suggested that over-the-counter (OTC) status alone will not ensure the success of self-managed medication abortion in the United States.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To fully integrate self-managed medication abortion with existing abortion practices in the United States, misoprostol and mifepristone must first become available without a prescription,&#8221; Guttmacher wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/gpr2104118.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> indicated that the abortion industry has no plans to relinquish the profits medication abortion brings:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c[\u2026]self managed medication abortion will require adaptations to ensure that clinic-based providers can play a role in supporting people who self-manage\u2026. For example, they could serve as a source of accurate information about self-management and offer care if it is needed or wanted at any stage.\u00a0<b>This would require payment and reimbursement systems that compensate providers adequately for providing these services.<\/b>..\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In 2018, Guttmacher <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Guttmacher\/status\/1055852633771180034\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> in a tweet: \u201cEvidence suggests that most individuals have the skills they need for safe <a class=\"twitter-hashtag pretty-link js-nav\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SelfManagedAbortion?src=hash\"><s>#<\/s>SelfManagedAbortion<\/a>, including assessing eligibility, managing the drug regimen and assessing completion of the procedure.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_190297\" style=\"width: 472px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-190297\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-190297\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Guttmacher-promotes-self-managed-abortion-Oct-26-2018.jpg\" alt=\"Image: Guttmacher promotes self-managed abortion (Image: Twitter) \" width=\"462\" height=\"517\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-190297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Guttmacher-promotes-self-managed-abortion-Oct-26-2018.jpg 495w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Guttmacher-promotes-self-managed-abortion-Oct-26-2018-268x300.jpg 268w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-190297\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Guttmacher promotes self managed abortion (Image: Twitter)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>2019: <\/strong>A \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/reproblueprint.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/BlueprintPolicyAgenda-v14-PR-All-1.pdf\">Blueprint for Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice<\/a>,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/about-us\/newsroom\/press-releases\/nearly-80-reproductive-health-rights-and-justice-organizations-unveil-proactive-blueprint-for-sexual-and-reproductive-health-rights-and-justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">endorsed<\/a> by 80 pro-abortion groups, defined a self-managed abortion to &#8220;include the use of medication abortion pills (mifepristone and\/or misoprostol), traditional herbs, or other means to end a pregnancy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-plan-financial-incentives-abortion-limits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demanded<\/a> that &#8220;Lawmakers must&#8230; reduce barriers to medication abortion and decriminalize self-managed abortions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2021:<\/strong> Abortion promoters <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/illegal-abortion-safe-claim-abortion-advocates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">openly advocated<\/a> that women seek misoprostol from <em>veterinary<\/em> sources, which puts women at risk. And a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/former-employees-accuse-abortion-organization-racism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former<\/a>\u00a0NARAL board member and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/reneebraceysherman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">founder<\/a> of the abortion site We Testify called it \u201cmisinformation\u201d to claim that all illegal abortions are \u201cunsafe.\u201d She told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RBraceySherman\/status\/1433039653217652736\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0followers, \u201cIllegal doesn\u2019t have to mean unsafe. With medication abortion, it\u2019s quite safe to self-manage an abortion\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prochoiceamerica.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/FY2019-Annual-Report-Digital-Edition.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NARAL board member<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-financial-conflicts-interest-politicians-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel Grossman<\/a> unveiled a \u201csolution\u201d to his <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrDGrossman\/status\/1433459005897297920\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0followers, promoting so-called \u201cadvance provision\u201d of abortion pills.<\/p>\n<p>Guttmacher <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/guttmacher-demands-political-allies-expand-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/sites\/default\/files\/article_files\/gpr2402921.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">demands<\/a> calling for the Biden Administration to &#8220;destigmatize the full range of abortion methods, including self-managed abortion,&#8221; and calling for &#8220;HHS should&#8230; create public health resources to educate pregnant people, medical providers, first responders, social workers and law enforcement officials about self-managed [DIY] abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>2022<\/strong>: Abortion insiders promote <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/diy-abortion-pill-danger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">making your own<\/a> abortion drugs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2023:<\/strong> Planned Parenthood listed the herbs used by some to cause abortions and then wrote that &#8220;using herbs, plants, or other untested chemicals can put you at risk for things like poisoning, an allergic reaction, or an incomplete abortion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The abortion corporation, which <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-data-2800-daily\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reports<\/a> that 70% of its abortions are done by abortion pill, also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plannedparenthood.org\/blog\/lets-talk-about-self-managed-abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>, &#8220;Finding and taking abortion pills to end a pregnancy without the help of a doctor or nurse is called &#8216;self-managed abortion&#8217; (which some people call an &#8216;at-home abortion&#8217;). So some people may choose to have self-managed abortion&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Women Help Women wants to bring self-managed <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/abortions?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#abortions<\/a> into the home with help from its online guide. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4l8a0ZQIwB\">https:\/\/t.co\/4l8a0ZQIwB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; PlannedParenthood DE (@PPDelaware) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PPDelaware\/status\/865952507423596544?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 20, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>Propaganda: &#8220;Pro-life Laws Harm Women&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pre-Roe, so-called self-abortions were <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/thousands-women-werent-dying-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">portrayed<\/a> by abortion advocates as <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/politifact-abortion-expert-debunked-illegal-statistcs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dangerous<\/a>. But once Big Abortion began <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-capitalize-covid-19-expand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">toying with the idea<\/a> of no-test abortion pill protocols and mail-order telabortion schemes (including an over-the-counter abortion pill push), suddenly, self-managed abortion became &#8220;safe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2821654?utm_source=For_The_Media&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=ftm_links&amp;utm_term=073024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> heavily promoted by media and published by JAMA, &#8220;Self-Managed Abortion Attempts Before vs After Changes in Federal Abortion Protections in the US,&#8221; suggested that \u201cself-managed\u201d abortions (SMA) had risen 40% since the Supreme Court overturned <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> in its 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The study defined SMAs to include herbs, alcohol, being hit in the stomach, inserting an object into the body (reminiscent of coat hanger abortions), as well as use of the abortion pill regimen (mifepristone and misoprostol).<\/p>\n<p>By lumping the abortion pill in with other self-manage abortion methods once thought extremely dangerous for women, Big Abortion can blur the lines and claim that women&#8217;s health suffers when pro-life laws are enacted to protect preborn living children \u2014 something <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/self-managed-abortions-rising-gaslighting-public\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> in a Live Action News analysis of the study, which pointed out that &#8220;the results of the study are being dishonestly used to <em>attack<\/em>\u00a0<em>pro-life laws as dangerous<\/em>, as if they are the cause of the increase in self-managed abortion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>JAMA&#8217;s research was funded by &#8220;an anonymous foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.&#8221; Multiple authors also cited an &#8220;Anonymous Foundation&#8221; for their work.
