When I first learned about what it meant to be pro-life, I gravitated toward the movement with all my heart. I have friends who have had abortions, and I know I have no right to judge them, but I do have the right to say that abortion is truly taking away a human life.<\/span><\/p>\n

Only when the mother\u2019s life is truly medically threatened (for example, a tubal ectopic pregnancy<\/i>) do I believe it then becomes a medical decision between doctor and patient [Editor’s Note: Click here<\/a> for more about Live Action’s position in this regard<\/em>]. However, this exception does not happen frequently at all.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many people say men should not have a say in this matter. I disagree because it\u2019s a discussion on the beginning of human life. My grandfather, Ricardo <\/span>Montalb\u00e1n,<\/span> was an actor with integrity in a very unforgiving Hollywood. He was unafraid to say he was pro-life and further, he explained why so impeccably.<\/span><\/p>\n

He did not believe being pro-life based on his Christian faith alone was enough as an explanation. So, he came up with his own explanation:\u00a0When Was I \u201cI\u201d?<\/span><\/p>\n

It went like this:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Was I \u201cI\u201d the night my mother said to my father, \u201cNot tonight, I have a headache\u201d? Was I \u201cI\u201d 3 minutes before I was born? Was I \u201cI\u201d the moment I was born? Although, if you look at me then and look at me now, you wouldn\u2019t recognize me. <\/span><\/i>I was \u201cI\u201d at the moment of conception: the time when the code for my life was established. If my life was taken then, or if it was taken now, I would not be \u201cI.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

I believe our society thrives on respectful discussion with one another. This is how my grandfather lived his life. Why can\u2019t we discuss difficult issues with love?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a young woman growing up in a major metropolis, I have to admit it was intimidating at times if the topic of abortion came up. Of course, many women who are pro-life have a fear of saying so, as to not offend other women who disagree. I once wrote a blog about my beliefs, and a friend chastised me for it. Yet, it gave me more of a motivation to speak-up and not be intimidated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I remember putting a pro-life bumper sticker on my car. My mother was proud, so much so that it overcame her fear of how people would react. The most incredible role model I could have asked for was my mother. She gave me the gift of a strong faith, the faith that was passed down from her father, my grandfather.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I later became a nurse to support the miracle of life. From a medical point-of-view, I cannot see life beginning at any time other than conception. It doesn\u2019t matter if we all start off as one cell, as opposed to four, or trillions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
