Attorneys general (AGs) from 17 states, all Democrats, have formed a “Reproductive Rights Working Group” dedicated to promoting abortion and attacking pregnancy resource centers (PRCs). The group\u00a0also includes representatives from organizations such as the National Abortion Federation and the National Women\u2019s Law Center.<\/p>\n

In a press release<\/a>, the group said it was open to all Democrat<\/em> AGs, though only 17 attended the first meeting. The goal of the pro-abortion group is to strengthen protections for abortion, create “reproductive justice” units within AG offices, and advance shield laws – which protect abortionists in pro-abortion states from pro-life laws in other states.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople look to Congress, they look to governors. But the attorneys general are on the front lines combating the incessant attacks on our reproductive health care,\u201d Andrea Campbell, Massachusetts\u2019 attorney general and chair of the new group, said in the press release. \u201cIf you don\u2019t have an attorney general that knows what they\u2019re doing and also cares about these issues, you\u2019re in trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n

The press release tellingly noted that “attorneys general have played a major role in shaping access to abortion in their states, and can substantially influence what kind of care is available,” using Letitia James’ battle against PRCs<\/a> in New York as a glowing example.<\/p>\n

The press release also noted that their goal is to increase anti-PRC regulations across the country<\/strong><\/em>. \u201cEvery office has different resources and human capital. If we come together across offices in this coalition and working group, we can make sure everyone has what we need as we take on this collective fight,\u201d Campbell said.<\/p>\n
