{"id":312348,"date":"2024-05-16T06:49:59","date_gmt":"2024-05-16T11:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=312348"},"modified":"2024-05-15T11:01:48","modified_gmt":"2024-05-15T16:01:48","slug":"march-life-ireland-pro-life-abortions-climb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/march-life-ireland-pro-life-abortions-climb\/","title":{"rendered":"March for Life Ireland promotes electing pro-life politicians as abortions climb annually"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/large-crowd-at-march-for-life-in-dublin-told-to-vote-pro-life\">Right to Life UK<\/a>) The large crowd who turned out in Dublin for the March for Life on Bank Holiday Monday were urged to vote pro-life in the country\u2019s upcoming local and European elections.<\/p>\n<p>With the <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/a-record-of-over-10000-abortions-in-ireland-in-2023-new-figures-suggest\">latest figures<\/a> in Ireland suggesting that there may have been over 10,000 abortions in the country in 2023, participants in this year\u2019s March for Life were urged to support pro-life candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Eil\u00eds Mulroy of the Pro Life Campaign <a class=\"__mPS2id\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rte.ie\/news\/dublin\/2024\/0506\/1447631-pro-life-rally-dublin\/#:~:text=Eil%C3%ADs%20Mulroy%20of%20the%20Pro%20Life%20Campaign%20told%20the%20crowds%20gathered%20in%20Molesworth%20Street%20that%20%22in%20the%20coming%20weeks%20the%20Pro%20Life%20Campaign%20will%20be%20publishing%20a%20comprehensive%20voter%20guide%2C%20featuring%20a%20list%20of%20all%20election%20candidates%20and%20where%20they%20stand%20on%20right%2Dto%2Dlife%20issues%22.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> the crowds gathered in Dublin that the Pro Life Campaign \u201cwill be publishing a comprehensive voter guide, featuring a list of all election candidates and where they stand on right-to-life issues\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fprolifecampaignireland%2Fvideos%2F411631961831777%2F&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=560&amp;t=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"429\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>She added that it looks as though \u201cthe number of abortions carried out in that one year period will exceed 10,000, representing a massive increase in abortions year on year since the new law took effect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Calum Miller, from the UK, also spoke at the March and focused on conscientious objection to abortion within the medical profession <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Q8YOWln1_9Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saying<\/a> \u201cIf you lose the soul of medicine and make it a profession of killing, if you rob medicine of conscience by expelling those who listen to their conscience, everyone is in danger\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIs that the sort of healthcare system you want looking after you when you are weak and vulnerable?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S-lQOooYAs8?si=IFxxU-52q-pfvr-7\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cErode conscience, and you remove the healthcare professionals with the most integrity, who are willing to do what is right rather than what is convenient\u201d, Dr Miller added.<\/p>\n<p>A mother of a child who has Down\u2019s syndrome, Anna Buday, <a href=\"https:\/\/cruxnow.com\/church-in-uk-and-ireland\/2024\/05\/march-for-life-takes-place-in-ireland-amid-soaring-abortion-rates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> parents who had a child with Down\u2019s syndrome or who had a prenatal diagnosis of Down\u2019s syndrome at the March for Life not to be afraid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is hope. There is plenty of laughter and joy. There is learning. There is opportunity. There is kindness and capability. There is so much love!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pro-life TD Carol Nolan also spoke at the March <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2VG2f5MGDCQ&amp;list=PLwv721xNcc4dg6JM6k08h4Cic5msRhSr3&amp;index=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saying<\/a> that \u201cmore and more people are starting to ask questions about what our \u2018so-called\u2019 leaders in Government are presiding over\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am convinced that in addition to the people who voted \u2018no\u2019 in 2018, there are lots of \u2018yes\u2019 voters who now regret voting for repeal. Given what has transpired, we need to reach these voters in the coming weeks and urge them to think pro-life before they vote in the upcoming elections in the next few weeks, and indeed, in the next few months\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/irish-abortion-review-recommends-doctors-be-immune-from-prosecution-for-abortion-up-to-birth\">highly-controversial review<\/a> of Ireland\u2019s abortion law last year recommended physicians who perform abortions be immune from prosecution if they perform an abortion at any stage of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>The review also recommended the scrapping of the three-day waiting period before an abortion can happen.<\/p>\n<p>This is despite the fact that <a href=\"https:\/\/prolifecampaign.ie\/portfolio_cpt\/14-9-23-latest-hse-data-shows-1903-women-didnt-proceed-from-first-to-final-abortion-appointment-in-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1,903<\/a> women in Ireland did not proceed with an abortion after an initial abortion appointment and a mandatory three-day waiting period in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson for Right To Life UK, Catherine Robinson, said \u201cWith the upcoming local and European elections, Irish pro-lifers have a chance to ensure that pro-life candidates are able to represent them as well as unborn babies and their mothers.
