However, some are saying that the proposal\u2019s language is too broad and will allow a wide range of conditions to fall under the \u201cterminal\u201d definition.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;It is called the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill, so that proclaims itself as being restricted to people who are terminally ill, but it defines people that are terminally ill only as people who have a progressive incurable disease, which is at an advanced stage. It doesn\u2019t mean that you\u2019re dying,&#8221; David Jones, professor of bioethics at St. Mary\u2019s University in London and director of the Anscombe Bioethics Centre, told the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-13331483\/16-year-olds-anorexia-granted-right-die-experts-warn.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daily Mail<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2018Terminal in the Scottish Bill is defined as someone having a progressive incurable disease from which you could die. It could cover anorexia,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/nearly-half-scotland-women-abortion-childcare\/\"><em>Nearly half of women in Scotland who chose abortion did so due to high childcare costs<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea that a person with anorexia would qualify for assisted suicide isn\u2019t that far-fetched \u2013 assisted suicide deaths due to the condition have already occurred in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/belgian-woman-suffering-from-anorexia-euthanized\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Belgium<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, while a Canadian woman is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/women-anorexia-assisted-suicide-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fighting<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the right to kill herself. In 2022 in the United States, a Colorado doctor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/colorado-doctor-suicide-pills-anorexia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">admitted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to providing assisted suicide drugs to her anorexic patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A young woman named Cara Neary is also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressreader.com\/uk\/the-scottish-mail-on-sunday\/20240421\/281870123491907\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">speaking out<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against the assisted suicide proposal. Neary says she battled anorexia as a teen, and admits that had she been given the chance, she would have chosen assisted suicide; in Scotland teens are considered adults at the age of 16.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Genuinely, I think if I had been given the option at 16, I probably would have taken it, which is terrifying, but if you gave me the option today, I\u2019d obviously say absolutely not,&#8221; she wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She continued: &#8220;Dying is not something you can come back from, you can\u2019t undo this, so I think it\u2019s really dangerous. I feel like it needs a lot more discussion. It is a very grey area.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The current legislation is the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/bioedge.org\/end-of-life-issues\/assisted-suicide\/scotland-to-vote-on-legalising-assisted-dying-for-the-third-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">third attempt<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Scottish lawmakers to legalize assisted suicide in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/actnow.io\/ARQQhk1\"><b><i>The DOJ put a pro-life grandmother in jail for protesting the killing of preborn children.
