{"id":308957,"date":"2024-03-20T12:46:17","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T17:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=308957"},"modified":"2024-03-19T18:16:15","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T23:16:15","slug":"uk-government-international-planned-parenthood-abortion-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/uk-government-international-planned-parenthood-abortion-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"UK gov gives money to International Planned Parenthood to kill preborn babies in Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/uk-govt-gives-1-5-million-to-abortion-giant-for-abortions-in-ukraine\">Right to Life UK<\/a>) The UK Government has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/uk-supports-most-vulnerable-women-and-girls-in-ukraine#:~:text=The%20UK%20has%20allocated%20%C2%A31.5%20million%20for%20International%20Planned%20Parenthood%20Federation%20which%20has%20provided%20sexual%20health%20and%20reproductive%20health%20services%20for%20the%20most%20vulnerable%20women%20and%20girls%20in%20Ukraine.%20%C2%A0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">given<\/a> \u00a31.5 million of taxpayer funding [approximately $1.9M USD] to one of the world\u2019s largest abortion providers, for \u201csexual and reproductive health services\u201d including abortions in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The Foreign, Commonwealth &amp; Development Office (FCDO) has announced that it will be giving this money, provided by the UK taxpayer, to the abortion giant, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).<\/p>\n<p>The FCDO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/uk-supports-most-vulnerable-women-and-girls-in-ukraine#:~:text=this%20crucial%20funding%20has%20supported%20over%2020%2C000%20people%20to%20access%20vital%20medical%20care%C2%A0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says<\/a> that \u201cthis crucial funding has supported over 20,000 people to access vital medical care\u201d including \u201caccess to safe abortion care\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The additional funding for abortion comes after the UK Government pledged over \u00a34.7 billion \u201cin non-military support\u201d to Ukraine. This non-military support will be used to provide sexual and reproductive health services, which <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/media\/6412fa41d3bf7f79d7b78f5d\/Integrated-sexual-health-service-specification-2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">typically includes<\/a> providing access to abortion.<\/p>\n<p>In its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ippf.org\/resource\/2022-annual-performance-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Annual Performance Report<\/a> for 2022, the IPPF boasts of providing 5 million abortions, an increase of 11% in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Foreign, Commonwealth &amp; Development Office (FCDO) launched an initiative \u201cto tackle gender inequality around the world\u201d with the use of over \u00a3200 million of taxpayers\u2019 money for programmes that provide abortions and fund \u2018pro-choice\u2019 campaigns in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The programme is implemented by international abortion providers MSI Reproductive Choices (previously Marie Stopes International) and International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).<\/p>\n<p>A Government paper called \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/1140934\/international-women-and-girls-strategy-2023-2030.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Women and Girls Strategy 2023\u20132030<\/a>\u2018 accompanying the launch of the initiative explains that one of its goals is to \u201cprioritise the often-neglected issue of safe abortion\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Taxpayers\u2019 money wasted<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Government commitment to funding abortions in Ukraine is the latest in a series of instances using taxpayers\u2019 money to fund abortion overseas. In 2018, the Conservative Government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/0\/family-planning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pledged to spend<\/a> \u00a3200 million on its Women\u2019s Integrated Sexual Health programme.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019 the Secretary of State for International Development, Alok Sharma MP, announced to the UN that the Department for International Development (DFID) would be providing an additional \u00a3600 million of taxpayer money for \u201cfamily planning\u201d, which <a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/news\/tory-govt-pledge-another-600m-tax-payer-money-for-international-abortions-and-family-planning\">included funding abortions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This pledge was the UK Government\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/global-health\/women-and-girls\/uk-announce-600m-aid-family-planning-us-ramps-anti-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">largest ever<\/a> stand-alone spend of taxpayer money in this area and comes on top of the \u00a31.1 billion already pledged over a 5-year period beginning in 2017.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/righttolife.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Where-Do-They-Stand-Abortion-Survey-Data-Tables.pdf\">Polling<\/a> shows that there is little public support for taxpayers\u2019 money being spent in this manner with 65% of the British population opposed to this money being used to fund abortions overseas.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesperson for Right To Life UK Catherine Robinson said \u201cThe people of Ukraine need medical supplies and basic necessities like food and water.
