{"id":308802,"date":"2024-03-17T15:42:25","date_gmt":"2024-03-17T20:42:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=308802"},"modified":"2024-03-19T14:08:32","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T19:08:32","slug":"dune-part-two-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/dune-part-two-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"Pro-abortion critic shocked to find pro-life message in &#8216;Dune: Part Two&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hollywood is rife with pro-abortion messaging in both television and film, but &#8220;Dune: Part Two&#8221; seems to have missed the pro-abortion memo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2022 propaganda feature &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-film-call-jane-flops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Call Jane<\/a>&#8221; lionized the group Jane\u2019s Collective, the defunct organization that led to the creation of Jane\u2019s Revenge, a violent pro-abortion gang that terrorizes life-affirming pregnancy centers and churches. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And Amy Schumer\u2019s sitcom &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/amy-schumer-marriage-abortion-nap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Life &amp; Beth<\/a>&#8221; glamorizes abortion in an episode where her character helps a friend named Jess get through an array of pro-life protestors, who are betrayed as abusive.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As Live Action News reported, \u201cBeth is visibly pregnant, and as they arrive at the facility, protesters heap abuse on her, thinking Beth is the one getting an abortion. As Jess thanks Beth for \u2018taking the heat\u2019 for her, Beth then apologizes for \u2018stealing her thunder.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the mind of the entertainment industry, which donates heavily to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/600-entertainment-industry-men-fund-abortion-travel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-abortion organizations<\/a>, an abortion should be celebrated and not condemned. They use euphemisms to hide the humanity of preborn human beings in the womb, describing the child as a \u201cclump of cells\u201d or something \u201cnot alive.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, the Academy Award-winning 2024 feature film &#8220;Dune: Part Two&#8221; may have subverted that trope, even if not purposefully.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Way9Dexny3w?si=0ejRAxwejI03D1ky\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the opening sequence, an unidentified human fetus is seen floating, surrounded by black. A few minutes later, we discover this is the preborn child of Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson). She informs her reluctant hero son Paul (Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet) that the baby is a girl. After performing a ritual to increase her abilities, Lady Jessica can now telepathically communicate with her daughter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul seems to be skeptical about this, but upon receiving a vision where he sees his sister as a young woman, he realizes his preborn sibling is a person. It is then that the audience hears the voice of the preborn daughter, voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy, who speaks directly to her mother.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/public-broadasting-fund-abortion-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>They fund public broadcasting on PBS. They also fund the abortion industry.<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Dune&#8221; was adapted from Frank Hebert\u2019s iconic science fiction novel &#8220;Dune&#8221; which also features a voice from the preborn baby girl guiding Lady Jessica and Paul. In later novels, the baby girl is born and becomes a vital part of the &#8220;Dune&#8221; book series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pro-life theme is clearly present. Paul\u2019s preborn sister is shown as a person who must be protected, guarded, and watched over as the events of the movie take place. There is no room for ambiguity, and though the pro-life message might have been accidental, it did not go unnoticed by some critics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI knew I was going to have problems with \u2018Dune: Part Two\u2019 when it opened with the image of a fetus,\u201d LA Times critic Mary McNamara <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/movies\/story\/2024-03-05\/dune-part-two-lady-jessica-bene-gesserit-rebecca-ferguson-alia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opined<\/a>. \u201cIf female autonomy was not currently under attack from so many sides, my stomach might not have clenched quite so dramatically as those undeveloped eyes and barely formed limbs marked reentrance into the sprawling tale of Paul (last-of-his-house) Atreides, his pregnant mother and those around them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McNamara continued to throw real-world political issues into a story about rival houses fighting for control of a planet in outer space \u2014 despite the fact that this science fiction series <a href=\"https:\/\/dune.fandom.com\/wiki\/Dune_(novel)\">was written long before <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> even existed<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe overturning of Roe vs. Wade in 2022 had led to an increasing emphasis on \u2018fetal rights,\u2019\u201d added McNamara, \u201c&#8230; including the recent determination by the Alabama Supreme Court that frozen fertilized eggs are, legally, children.\u201d (In reality, what the Alabama Supreme Court decided is that <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/alabama-supreme-court-embryos-children\/\">under that state&#8217;s Wrongful Death Statute<\/a>, human beings in their embryonic stage of life \u2014 or &#8220;fertilized eggs&#8221; as McNamara demeaningly refers to them \u2014 created via IVF were to be treated as human beings. Lawmakers in the state quickly rushed to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/alabama-governor-signs-ivf-dangerous-immunity\/\">pass a bill<\/a> giving IVF practitioners civil and criminal immunity, which was signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If &#8220;Dune: Part Two&#8221; is any indication, the only \u201cfemale autonomy\u201d that is under attack is that of baby girls in the womb. While the film shows the humanity of Lady Jessica\u2019s preborn child, the LA Times was quick to downplay that humanity in favor of political messaging. It is a moral mistake that many make when discussing this topic. The baby is indeed a human and not something that should be killed in a grotesque abortion procedure because your stomach might clench at the image of a human fetus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5ezn-9q2SYM?si=AFKG5bdE7mCMFMYn\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This discussion of humanity also opens up another avenue when it comes to novels or cinematic experiences. The genre of science fiction is written to highlight life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Science fiction is all about the unknown. As previously <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/art-possible-science-fiction-pro-life-message\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> by Live Action News, sci-fi can &#8220;show the potential and the possibilities that humanity has in making new discoveries. The pro-life message is all about giving preborn children the chance to live \u2014 the result being to find their own life adventures, so to speak.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No one is arguing that the filmmakers behind &#8220;Dune: Part Two&#8221; are secretly pro-life, but that the story itself shines a light on life in the womb. If movie critics are taking notice to the point of frustration at the LA Times, then perhaps we will see more Hollywood features with life-affirming themes considering the massive success of &#8220;Dune: Part Two.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/actnow.io\/ARQQhk1\"><b><i>The DOJ put a pro-life grandmother in jail for protesting the killing of preborn children.
