Forty years ago, North Carolina mother Kai Sun was born on Leap Day, the 29th day in the month of February every four calendar years. Now, Sun has given birth to a baby girl of her own, also born on Leap Day.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy husband and I were just saying how cool it would be if she were born on the same day as my birthday, and now, it happened,\u201d Sun told <\/span>Good Morning America<\/span><\/a> Thursday morning after they welcomed their third child into the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kai Sun\u2019s daughter, Chloe Paik, was born at 5:12 am at Duke University Hospital, where Kai Sun also works. <\/span>“She was breathing fast initially when she was born so they took her to the nursery for a little bit to see the pediatrician but everything checked out and she’s peacefully sleeping,\u201d Sun said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not only was Paik born on the same date as her mother, but she is also a “rainbow baby” for her family. Almost exactly one year ago, Sun suffered a miscarriage. <\/span>“We had a <\/span>miscarriage<\/span><\/a> almost exactly a year ago and so that makes her [Chloe] more special,” Sun said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sun stated that during her pregnancy with her daughter, a few concerning things happened. “There was some abnormal finding on the initial ultrasound that we were nervous about. And then I had COVID. And I fell on my belly in [my] third trimester. There are just some small things that happened that made us a little nervous but everything turned out well at the end.” <\/span><\/p>\n

When asked if she wanted her daughter to know anything about her special birthday, <\/span>Sun said<\/span><\/a>, \u201cI just want Chloe to know that she was born on a special day and that she will be special and that we all love her.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sun\u2019s other children\u2019s names are Charis, age five, and Caleb, age three. Sun explains that for her birthday this year, she\u2019s just excited to bring Chloe home to celebrate with her other siblings \u2014 and there will definitely be cake!<\/span><\/p>\n
