However, near the end of the film, it is revealed that it is her pre-teen daughter that is pregnant due to rape and Rachel is trying to obtain an abortion for her. The 23-minute film follows her journey of desperation and paints a sad picture for those seeking abortion in states with pro-life laws.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The film\u2019s writer and director, Nazrin Choudhry, stated in an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.channel4.com\/news\/red-white-and-blue-oscar-nominated-short-film-explores-the-uss-strict-abortion-laws\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with Channel 4 News, \u201cIn 2022, the Supreme Court made a decision that reversed Roe v. Wade and that affected reproductive rights across the board. And so, I want to tell a story about the real world repercussions arising from that decision.\u201d Main actress Brittany Snow and Choudhry both have stated the film was not meant to be political, with Choudhry saying, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re Republican or Democrat, this is a human rights issue.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Indeed, abortion <em><strong>is<\/strong><\/em> a human rights issue, but likely not for the reasons the pro-abortion film creators think. It can never be a human right to kill another innocent human being.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zVk1qM1El9o?si=Op-8vmaatTrE4sPU\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snow <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/brittany-snow-on-her-oscar-nominated-short-film-about-abortion-exclusive-8598796\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">explains<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that while viewers may start watching the film with a judgmental perspective, the film\u2019s twist has shifted perspectives \u2014 the twist being that Rachel\u2019s pre-teen daughter has been raped and now is pregnant. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the end of the film, the daughter, having drawn a picture of an elephant, explains that female elephants stick together and help each other \u2014 a seeming urge to other women to join in on the fight for the \u201cright\u201d to kill their preborn children and to \u201chelp\u201d the women seeking it. Rape is a horrific human rights violation that no human being should have to experience. But an abortion doesn\u2019t take away the trauma of rape, and creates another innocent victim of violence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Serena, a woman who <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/serena-abortion-regret-rape-trauma\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">endured rape at 13 years old,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> confirms that the abortion her parents paid to have her put through never reversed \u201cthe trauma of sexual assault\u2026 I am so thankful for abortion recovery, but abortion never undid my trauma.\u201d Serena&#8217;s parents&#8217; regret over making their daughter abort her child caused difficulty in Serena\u2019s teen years and later on in marriage.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lianna Rebolledo, founder of Loving Life, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pregnant-rape-12-chose-life\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">survived rape at 12 years old<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and chose life for her daughter. She says, \u201cJust knowing that I had my baby girl, it helped me. It helped me to heal and I just knew that my daughter had a purpose in life\u2026 And she gave me the strength to go on. She gave me hope. She showed me what real love was, and because of her, I am who I am right now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Choudhry, with an abortion history of her own, said to the Wrap in an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/red-white-and-blue-nazrin-choudhury-oscars-interview\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">interview<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, \u201cWe\u2019re trying to tell you, \u2018These are all the reasons why someone could need and want this (abortion), and here\u2019s another added reason. If you haven\u2019t changed your mind before, how does this affect you now? Because if you are a human being, you should understand why it\u2019s so important.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In actuality, if you\u2019re a human being, you should understand that killing innocent human beings doesn\u2019t solve any societal problem.
