Two senators have introduced a bill that would prevent the bodies of aborted babies from being used in medical research.<\/p>\n

Senators John Kennedy and Cindy Hyde-Smith announced the Protecting Life and Integrity in Research Act<\/a> in a press release<\/a>, explaining it would bar federal departments, agencies, and offices from conducting, funding, or approving research involving human fetal tissue obtained through an induced abortion (the direct and intentional killing of a preborn child).<\/p>\n

The trafficking of aborted babies gained widespread notoriety after the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) released its Human Capital Project<\/a>, following a two-year investigation into Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry. Undercover investigators recorded<\/a> abortionists expressing willingness to commit illegal abortion procedures to procure the body parts of aborted babies, including D&X abortions, commonly referred to as partial-birth abortion. Abortionists were seen on video joking about how much money they hoped to earn through selling baby body parts and laughing about the gruesome nature of their jobs.<\/p>\n

Other videos featured whistleblowers who admitted to seeing babies born alive during attempted abortions.<\/p>\n

In December, CMP confirmed<\/a> that the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) was investigated by federal law enforcement regarding a tissue harvesting program using aborted babies. Documents show Pitt has been working with Planned Parenthood to criminally harvest the body parts of babies aborted late in gestation. CMP states that Pitt could be harvesting kidney samples from babies who are still alive<\/a>. Babies can and do<\/em>\u00a0survive<\/a>\u00a0induction abortions in the second and third trimesters.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s unconscionable that our government would use American taxpayer dollars to fund research that exploits or depends on the taking of innocent life. If the Biden administration won\u2019t stop this immorality, Congress should,\u201d Kennedy said in the press release.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe harvesting and trafficking of the body parts of unborn babies killed through abortion is heinous and unethical,” Hyde-Smith added. “Taxpayer dollars for medical research should be spent on research that will deliver results for enhancing quality of life, instead of devaluing life for the sake of research. This legislation would stop the Biden administration\u2019s gross abuse of taxpayer funds.”<\/p>\n
