Two of those studies are cited in an abortion pill lawsuit set to be heard before the United States Supreme Court in March.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/23333928231216699\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three now-<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/23333928231216699\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">retracted<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/23333928231216699\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> studies<\/a> were led by researcher James Studnicki (who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/completely-unjustified-medical-journal-retracts-major-studies-critical-of-abortion-pill-ahead-of-supreme-court-clash\">reportedly<\/a> trained at Johns Hopkins University) and published in Sage&#8217;s journal \u201cHealth Services Research and Managerial Epidemiology.\u201d Two were funded by the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI), the research arm of the pro-life organization <a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/\">Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America<\/a>. In addition, several of the authors were also associated with CLI.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sage_Publishing?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Sage_Publishing<\/a> retracted 3 of our studies, citing \u201cmethodology concerns\u201d &amp; \u201cundisclosed conflicts of interest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All 3 use Medicaid records-linkage data, the highest quality abortion-related data available in the US<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/leif_lemahieu?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@leif_lemahieu<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realDailyWire?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@realDailyWire<\/a>:<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sNVhdaLK9J\">https:\/\/t.co\/sNVhdaLK9J<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Charlotte Lozier Institute (@LozierInstitute) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LozierInstitute\/status\/1754653204761936138?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 5, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Sage, which <a href=\"https:\/\/us.sagepub.com\/en-us\/nam\/researchers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">describes<\/a> itself as &#8220;the world\u2019s leading independent academic publisher&#8230; committed to global dissemination of research&#8230;&#8221; has denied that the timing of the case played a role in the retractions.<\/p>\n<p>CLI disagrees \u2014 and in a long <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LozierInstitute\/status\/1755257426197025010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter\/X thread<\/a>, called the move an &#8220;assault on science&#8221; \u2014 even publishing a new <a href=\"https:\/\/assaultonscience.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a> to respond to the critics.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\ud83e\uddf5 On February 5th, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sage_Publishing?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Sage_Publishing<\/a> announced it would retract three of our studies.<\/p>\n<p>All three use Medicaid records-linkage data, the highest quality abortion-related data available in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>This should be of great concern to the entire research community.<br \/>1\/15 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/b8Mi6IqPhD\">pic.twitter.com\/b8Mi6IqPhD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Charlotte Lozier Institute (@LozierInstitute) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LozierInstitute\/status\/1755257426197025010?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 7, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>Studies Cited in Abortion Pill Lawsuit to be Heard before SCOTUS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two of the three retracted studies are <a href=\"https:\/\/adfmedialegalfiles.blob.core.windows.net\/files\/AllianceForHippocraticMedicineComplaint.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cited<\/a> by plaintiffs in the <em>Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine<\/em> [AHM]<em>\u00a0v. Food and Drug Administration<\/em> (FDA) lawsuit which calls into question the 2000 approval of the abortion pill mifepristone by the FDA. In addition, both studies were later cited in the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/district-court-judge-revoke-fda-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decision<\/a> by District Court Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk to suspend FDA approval of the drug.<\/p>\n<p>The case is set to be <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/us-supreme-court-case-regulation-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heard<\/a> before the Supreme Court in March and will focus on the legitimacy of the 2016 and 2021 changes to the FDA&#8217;s REMS safety system regarding mifepristone.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On November 16, the researchers sent a letter to Sage requesting more time to respond to the retraction notice, saying that the retractions were &#8216;procedurally improper&#8217; and suggesting that the real reason for the retractions was to undermine their research ahead of the Supreme Court\u2019s consideration of mifepristone,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/completely-unjustified-medical-journal-retracts-major-studies-critical-of-abortion-pill-ahead-of-supreme-court-clash\">noted<\/a> the Daily Wire (DW).<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/23333928211053965\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a>, &#8220;A Longitudinal Cohort Study of Emergency Room Utilization Following Mifepristone Chemical and Surgical Abortions, 1999\u20132015&#8221; is cited on page 19 of the <a href=\"https:\/\/adfmedialegalfiles.blob.core.windows.net\/files\/AllianceForHippocraticMedicineComplaint.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AHM complaint<\/a>. It reads, &#8220;Chemical abortions are over fifty percent (50%) more likely than surgical abortions to result in an emergency department visit within thirty days, affecting one in twenty females. The number of chemical abortion-related emergency room visits increased by over five hundred percent (500%) between 2002 and 2015.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/epub\/10.1177\/23333928221103107\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Post Hoc Exploratory Analysis: Induced Abortion Complications Mistaken for Miscarriage in the Emergency Room are a Risk Factor for Hospitalization<\/a>&#8221; is cited on pages 20-21 (line 70). It reads: &#8220;If a chemical abortion is miscoded as a miscarriage in the emergency room (which occurred sixty percent (60%) of the time in one study), the treating doctor\u2019s lack of knowledge results in the woman or girl being at significantly greater risk of needing multiple hospitalizations and follow-up surgery.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claim: Data is misleading<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While the Sage retraction criticizes three studies tied to CLI, the pro-life authors have disputed the claims &#8220;[i]n a <a href=\"https:\/\/retractionwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/23.11.29-Sage-Scientific-Response.pdf\">point-by-point response to Sage\u2019s critiques of the paper<\/a> sent to the publisher in November&#8230;&#8221; Retraction Watch <a href=\"https:\/\/retractionwatch.com\/2024\/02\/06\/papers-used-by-judge-to-justify-abortion-pill-suspension-retracted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/assaultonscience.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">authors<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/assaultonscience.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2024\/02\/23.11.29-Letter-from-D.-Shaneyfelt-to-R.-Sander-and-enclosed-explanation-_Redacted.pdf\">have made clear<\/a> to Sage that the retractions are &#8220;unwarranted&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><em>No finding in any of the three studies has been substantively challenged, let alone proven invalid.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Sage has shown no evidence of any major errors, miscalculations, or falsehoods.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>There is no breach of the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics, which helps set standards for academic publications.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>These retractions are clearly unwarranted.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div id=\"attachment_306536\" style=\"width: 856px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-306536\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-306536\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/SAGE-publication-retraction-notice-lists-three-Charlotte-Lozier-studies-on-abortion.jpg\" alt=\"SAGE Publication retraction notice lists three Charlotte Lozier studies on abortion\" width=\"846\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/SAGE-publication-retraction-notice-lists-three-Charlotte-Lozier-studies-on-abortion.jpg 1031w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/SAGE-publication-retraction-notice-lists-three-Charlotte-Lozier-studies-on-abortion-300x242.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/SAGE-publication-retraction-notice-lists-three-Charlotte-Lozier-studies-on-abortion-700x564.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/SAGE-publication-retraction-notice-lists-three-Charlotte-Lozier-studies-on-abortion-768x619.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/SAGE-publication-retraction-notice-lists-three-Charlotte-Lozier-studies-on-abortion-500x403.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 846px) 100vw, 846px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-306536\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SAGE Publication retraction notice lists three Charlotte Lozier studies on abortion<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/23333928211053965\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> entitled &#8220;A Longitudinal Cohort Study of Emergency Room Utilization Following Mifepristone Chemical and Surgical Abortions, 1999\u20132015&#8221; looked at <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/abortion-drug-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medicaid data<\/a> to measure emergency room visits and complications after abortions.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/abortion-drug-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CLI website<\/a>, the study concluded that &#8220;the rate of abortion pill-related emergency room visits has increased more than 500% over the past decade and a half, and that abortion pills put mothers at significantly greater risk for complications.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Critics of the study claimed it artificially inflated the number of adverse events because the authors counted multiple visits by the same patient as multiple visits.<\/p>\n<p>But in their rebuttal to Sage, the authors <a href=\"https:\/\/retractionwatch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/23.11.29-Sage-Scientific-Response.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>: &#8220;If a woman has three emergency room visits on different days within 30 days of an induced abortion, and all are reported, that is not &#8216;artificially inflating the number of adverse events.&#8217; Rather, it is an accurate count of the number of adverse events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Studnicki said that none of the issues raised by Sage invalidate the research. He said the concerns are just a matter of researchers deciding to measure things in different ways, and not a matter of faulty data,&#8221; DW reported.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, the strength of this design means that this study gave us a really powerful look at what has been happening with chemical abortion&#8230; in the United States over the past couple of decades,&#8221; study author Tessa Longbons <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GWlwfw3ulSk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GWlwfw3ulSk?si=oxD3IKQR0TWTW7eo\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another criticism of that study was directed at the use of emergency room data \u2014 and again, the pro-life authors addressed the issue, writing to Sage that &#8220;The rationale for our study of ER use following abortion is extensively discussed in the introduction to our paper, and the reviewers did not provide any rebuttal to this explanation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The authors also noted that &#8220;adverse events following a mifepristone abortion are more likely to be experienced at home in the absence of a physician, increasing the likelihood of an ER visit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The study findings &#8220;demonstrate[] that some women go to the emergency room after they&#8217;ve had a chemical abortion&#8230; with bleeding and they do not communicate to the emergency room physician that they had the abortion,&#8221; Studnicki said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DchuKOvfVJA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">response video<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bad-actors-conceal-abortion-pill-complications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> documented how abortion providers often tell women that if they need to report to the ER when suffering an abortion pill complication, they should lie to ER staff and instead claim they are experiencing a natural miscarriage.<\/p>\n<p>This clear deception not only potentially puts the woman at risk for proper care but essentially hides abortion pill complications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DchuKOvfVJA?si=0IPxnZNGFB4G3r0b\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The issue of abortion pill clients reporting to emergency rooms for care was discussed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/claim-bias-texas-abortion-pill-lawsuit-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit<\/a> as a reason AHM plaintiffs had standing in the case, which leads some to \u2014 again \u2014 question the timing of the Sage retractions.<\/p>\n<p>District Court Judge Kacsmaryk was clear in his <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067\/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067.137.0_11.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">67-page opinion<\/a>\u00a0that not only did the plaintiffs have standing in this case (pp. 7-11,\u00a011-13), but plaintiffs\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/doctors-fda-abortion-pill-decades-medical-negligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alleged<\/a>\u00a0injuries are concrete and redressable (pp. 13-17) and within the statutory zone of interests (pp. 16-18).<\/p>\n<p>Kacsmaryk <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067\/gov.uscourts.txnd.370067.137.0_11.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> (p. 7) that &#8220;Here, the associations\u2019 members have standing because they allege adverse events from chemical abortion drugs can overwhelm the medical system and place &#8216;enormous pressure and stress&#8217; Yet a single as-yet-unpublished complaint prompted Sage to apply an Expression of Concern (EOC) to the article,&#8221; CLI <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LozierInstitute\/status\/1755257433092468818\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> on X, adding,\u00a0&#8220;The Expression of Concern did not refer to any finding of the study. Instead it took issue with the presentation of data \u2013 which had been previously accepted by Sage reviewers and editors \u2013 and &#8216;author conflicts of interest.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sage had since heard Dr. Studnicki\u2019s explanation of the data and admitted that the presentation is not unusual. But, instead of responding to his answers, Sage announced that it was retracting 3 studies. Guttmacher<\/a>, a former VP of the eugenics society and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/1973-video-former-planned-parenthood-eugenicist-president-responds-roe\/\">one-time president of Planned Parenthood<\/a>) is also a former \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/how-independent-is-guttmacher-from-planned-parenthood\/\">special affiliate<\/a>\u201d of abortion corporation Planned Parenthood. In 2016, when this study was published, Ibis&#8217; website acknowledged the organizational focus was &#8220;increasing access to safe abortion.&#8221; It also <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20161010162013\/https:\/\/ibisreproductivehealth.org\/funders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">listed<\/a> abortion pill manufacturer Danco as a &#8220;funder and strategic partner.&#8221; In fact, as late as 2020 (when the second author, Daniel Grossman served as Ibis&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/ibisreproductivehealth.org\/people\/grossman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">senior adviser)<\/a> Ibis had still been receiving <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200130190128\/https:\/\/ibisreproductivehealth.org\/funders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funds<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Danco Laboratories<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Author <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CaroleNovielli\/status\/1437141569384161281\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grossman<\/a> listed his associates as Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) and the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, University of California, San Francisco, CA, claiming no conflicts as well.<\/p>\n<p>ANSIRH&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160614132205\/http:\/\/www.ansirh.org\/about\/ansirhs-mission\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a> claimed to be a &#8220;collaborative research group at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160614132205\/http:\/\/bixbycenter.ucsf.edu\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health,<\/a>&#8221; which <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/paying-millions-abortion-training-taxpayers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trains<\/a> abortion providers through its\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ryanprogram.org\/\">Ryan Residency Training Program<\/a>. SFP was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contraceptionjournal.org\/article\/S0010-7824(15)30069-X\/pdf\">founded<\/a>\u00a0in 2005 thanks to a generous contribution from the Packard Foundation,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CaroleNovielli\/status\/1204803418709209090\">heavily<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/follow-money-pro-abortion-group-suicide-risk\/\">funded<\/a> by the Buffett Foundation, both investors in abortion pill manufacturer Danco.<\/p>\n<p>Sage&#8217;s attention to conflicts lacks in who they &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/group.sagepub.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">partner<\/a>&#8221; with as well, which includes the National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine (NASEM), whose <a href=\"https:\/\/nap.nationalacademies.org\/catalog\/24950\/the-safety-and-quality-of-abortion-care-in-the-united-states\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2018 report on abortion<\/a>, &#8220;The Safety and Quality of Abortion Care in the United States&#8221; is heavily cited. That report funded by NASEM was also funded by multiple pro-abortion philanthropists, including the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation \u2014 both <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/tangled-web-money-deception-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">early investors in the abortion pill<\/a>. In accordance with the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE) standards, Sage and the Journal Editor determined the peer review for initial publication was unreliable. This reviewer also peer reviewed two other articles by the same lead author, published in the journal in 2022 and 2019, which also are the subject of this notice,&#8221; Sage <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/23333928211053965\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alleged<\/a> as part of their retraction.<\/p>\n<p>In their response to Sage, the authors pointed out that &#8220;Sage had and has entire and exclusive control of the review process including the selection of the reviewers, who are unknown, as is appropriate, to us. The retraction notice declares that one of those reviewers is identified as an associate scholar of the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI). These scholars are generally not employees of CLI. They are simply scholars who generally agree with or support CLI education and research efforts. <strong>We did not select the reviewer at issue, and the reviewer\u2019s identity is still unknown to us. In fact, this reviewer may not have been a CLI associate scholar at the time of his\/her review.<\/strong> Likewise, because <strong>Sage practices double-blind peer review, the reviewer was equally unaware of our identities when evaluating our work<\/strong>,&#8221; the author&#8217;s response stated (emphases added).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hypocrisy of Media and Scientific Community<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While multiple media outlets reported the retracted studies by pro-life scholars, the media seems unwilling to entertain any possibility that abortion pill investor dollars <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bad-actors-money-trail-abortion-pill-corruption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">potentially taint<\/a> the claim that the abortion pill is safe.<\/p>\n<p>And they have been silent on <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-studies-funding-media-ignore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> detailed pro-abortion studies that have hidden funding sources.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the media seems to willfully turn a blind eye to the multiple\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-financial-conflicts-interest-politicians-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">conflicts of interest<\/a> surrounding abortion pill <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/tangled-web-money-deception-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clinical trial sponsors,<\/a> and they fail to take a critical look at pro-abortion study authors even though <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-author-mail-order-abortion-pill-paid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">some<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-abortion-pill-reversal-questionable-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">are<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-abortion-experts-payroll-manufacturers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on the payroll<\/a> of the manufacturers of the drug.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All of the major health associations are pro-abortion, most of the journals are pro-abortion, all the academic departments in the universities are pro-abortion,\u201d Studnicki told DW.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They were making the case that abortion is &#8216;safe.&#8217; For them it was fixed science,&#8221; he said in the previously linked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DchuKOvfVJA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">video<\/a>. &#8220;And some of our work, especially some of the work on emergency room visits, represents a different point of view than the narrative they thought was secure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Studnicki called Sage&#8217;s retractions \u201ca blatant attempt to discredit excellent research which is incongruent with a preferred abortion narrative,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/retractionwatch.com\/2024\/02\/06\/papers-used-by-judge-to-justify-abortion-pill-suspension-retracted\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Retraction Watch<\/a> wrote.<\/p>\n<p>He also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/completely-unjustified-medical-journal-retracts-major-studies-critical-of-abortion-pill-ahead-of-supreme-court-clash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a> the retractions as \u201ccompletely unjustified\u201d and told DW that the pro-life researchers were targeted \u201cbecause of the visibility of our work, because of the fact that our work was having such an influence on the discussion about abortion that was occurring in the states and in the courts at the highest levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On X, CLI <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LozierInstitute\/status\/1755257439258079349\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a> that &#8220;none of Sage\u2019s methodological concerns invalidate *any* of the findings of the three studies. Rather than engaging on the science, Sage has decided to act as judge, jury, and executioner, ignoring CLI&#8217;s affirmative, good-faith defense of its research.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>CLI summed up, &#8220;We stand by our work, and we stand behind Dr. Studnicki and his eminent career.
