Another added, &#8220;Not a joke, ended up with blood clots from the pill. If I could\u2019ve avoided it from doing this I would\u2019ve.&#8221; A third person agreed, writing, &#8220;As someone who had blood clots from the pill, I approve.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another person wrote that they didn&#8217;t even know it was a possibility, commenting, &#8220;I didn&#8217;t know we were supposed to do this&#8230; now [I&#8217;m] scared.&#8221; Worryingly, one commenter said they had never been warned that this was a possibility. &#8220;I have literally never had a [doctor] tell me about this&#8230; I\u2019ve been on the pill for 10 years.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hormonal birth control is known to have many serious <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/dangers-hormonal-birth-control\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">side effects<\/a>. In addition to the risks of life-threatening blood clots, hormonal birth control is known to bring increased risks of stroke, heart attack, tumors, infertility, and even some cancers. And yet, it appears women are left vastly uninformed.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, there are states which are <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/illinois-pharmacists-birth-control-physician\/\">now<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ct-gov-pharmacists-birth-control\/\">allowing<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pharmacists-dispense-abortion-pills\/\">preparing to allow<\/a> pharmacists to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-jersey-over-counter-contraception-2024\/\">dispense<\/a> hormonal birth control to patients without any doctor visits. The FDA recently approved a type of hormonal birth control to be sold <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-over-counter-contraceptive-zero-age-restrictions\/\">over the counter<\/a>. The risks of hormonal contraception are known to the medical community but not widely known among users of birth control.<\/p>\n<p>Model Hailey Bieber has <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/health\/hailey-bieber-says-taking-birth-control-as-a-migraine-sufferer-contributed-to-her-mini-stroke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">publicly shared<\/a> her story of suffering a mini-stroke after starting hormonal birth control \u2014 and warned that, like the commenters in Thompson&#8217;s TikTok video, didn&#8217;t even know it was a risk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had just recently started birth control pills, which I should have never been on because I am somebody who suffers from migraines anyway,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I just did not talk to my doctors about this.
