The report coincides with the recent data showing that half of the state&#8217;s abortion facilities <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/half-pennsylvania-abortion-facilities-failed-health-inspections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed<\/a> health inspections last year.<\/p>\n<p>The report notes that in 2022, there were 34,838 abortions reported in Pennsylvania. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/pafamily.org\/2024\/01\/09\/complications-from-abortion-in-pa-have-tripled-in-the-last-five-years-new-report-shows\/?fbclid=IwAR1g1Zf9EyyKZRIhSuR4Llqps5AEtuE2LMxmRiDwgqOAshiyaUKvYr6LD8o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pennsylvania Family Council<\/a>, this is the highest number of annual abortions in the last 10 years, with the complication rate being &#8220;triple the number of complications from just five years prior (143 in 2017). It\u2019s also a seven-fold increase in reported complications in the last fifteen years (67 in 2008).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.pa.gov\/topics\/HealthStatistics\/VitalStatistics\/Documents\/Pennsylvania_Annual_Abortion_Report_2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> (emphasis added):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>In 2022, there were 469 reports of complications from abortions that were submitted by physicians; 45.6 percent more than the 322 reported in 2021. <strong>More than 75 percent of the complications were related to retained products of conception, 14.7 percent to bleeding and 3.6 percent to infection.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A majority of 19,011 preborn children were killed via the abortion pill, which may explain the sharp increase in complications.<\/p>\n<p>Chemical abortion via the abortion pill has been found to be <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-abortion-pill-four-times-dangerous-surgical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four times more dangerous<\/a> for women than first-trimester surgical abortions. The abortion pill carries a high rate of incomplete abortion (&#8220;retained products of conception,&#8221; as noted in the report) which can lead to a dangerous infection, and the need for a second, surgical abortion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gnEHZiud8dg?si=5zcxeNHBh755HjJ9\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>The abortion pill can also be deadly if a woman who is unknowingly experiencing an ectopic pregnancy takes the abortion pill. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pro-abortion group <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/expand-access-abortion-pill-tied-eugenics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gynuity Health Projects<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published a study that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/telabortion-abortion-pill-study-increased-complications-er\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">found<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that six percent (6%) of women who took the abortion pill had complications requiring visits to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-abortion-pill-complications-underreported-er-managing\/\">emergency room or urgent care<\/a>. Those women who do need to seek emergency care, especially in pro-life states, are being encouraged to lie and tell the medical professionals they are having a natural miscarriage instead, which likely means that complications are being underreported.<\/p>\n<p>The report also reveals that the abortion industry continues to target Black women. Though Black individuals make up just 11% of the state&#8217;s total population, 14,923 of 2022 abortions &#8212; 43 percent &#8212; were to Black individuals. This data coincides with a November 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-black-hispanic-increased-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which showed that Black women saw the highest abortion percentage, rate, and ratio in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pennsylvania-governor-cuts-pregnancy-resource-center-funding\/\">put an end<\/a> to state funding for pregnancy help centers, which offer assistance to women and families who opt to give birth instead of seeking abortion. In addition, the state <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pennsylvania-launches-website-abortion\/\">launched a website<\/a> in 2023 to direct women and girls, both residents and non-residents, on finding an abortion facility and financial support to pay for the abortion. And recently, lawmakers in the state <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pennsylvania-house-bill-protecting-abortionists\/\">passed a bill<\/a> to protect lawbreaking abortionists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/tell-congress-stop-the-doj-from-targeting-pro-life-americans\/?utm_campaign=doj_petition&amp;utm_medium=lan_website\"><b><i>The DOJ put a pro-life grandmother in jail this Christmas for protesting the killing of preborn children.
