Wade<\/em> Supreme Court decision.<\/p>\n<p>To promote the potentially risky scheme, the Aid Access data was used in a cross-sectional study recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamainternalmedicine\/fullarticle\/2813618\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a>\u00a0in the journal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamainternalmedicine\/fullarticle\/2813618\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JAMA Internal Medicine<\/a>. And, despite the fact that prescribing abortion drugs in advance of a confirmed pregnancy has <em>never been approved<\/em> by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the media has readily promoted this study while failing to point out how this scheme flouts the FDA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accessdata.fda.gov\/scripts\/cder\/rems\/index.cfm?event=RemsDetails.page&amp;REMS=390\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">REMS<\/a> safety regulations. The media has also failed to investigate the potential dangers of shipping abortion pills out like candy.<\/p>\n<p>Aid Access is not the first to suggest this advance provision scheme. Around the time when <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> was overturned in June 2022, abortion proponents called for women to stockpile abortion pills in their medicine cabinets whether they were pregnant or not\u2026 simply to have \u201con hand\u201d should they find themselves unexpectedly pregnant.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Road trips and long lines to the clinic are a thing of the past!<br \/>\ud83d\udc8a Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rllhgl1Byl\">https:\/\/t.co\/rllhgl1Byl<\/a> to find abortion pills online. <br \/>\ud83d\udc8a EXTRA REMINDER: AID Access is now offering advanced provision of abortion pills to people in Texas for $105. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/t616dW5IUT\">pic.twitter.com\/t616dW5IUT<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Plan C (@Plancpills) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Plancpills\/status\/1433015012747001856?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 1, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>Advance Provision Study<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Aid Access study examined 48,404 advance provision requests they received allegedly from residents of all 50 states and Washington, D.C., between September 1, 2021, and April 30, 2023. And the study claimed the reason for the request was not due to the women being pregnant, but in large part was due to women in the United States being fearful their state could implement potential abortion restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>Aid Access was founded by Dutch physician Rebecca Gomperts, who is listed as an author of the study. It seems more than a little suspect that the founder of a business which stands to profit from advance provision sales of the abortion pill would author a study that predictably determined advance provision should be more broadly allowed.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/nonpregnant-women-are-requesting-abortion-pills-hand-rcna131914\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a>, \u201cAt the time the data was collected, the organization connected patients with doctors from outside the U.S. who could prescribe the two drugs used in a medication abortion \u2014 mifepristone and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/mifepristone-texas-abortion-pill-case-misoprostol-effective-alone-rcna70447\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">misoprostol<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which were then shipped to the patient at a cost of $110.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most common reasons for requesting advance provision were to ensure personal health and choice (35 855 [74%]) and to prepare for possible abortion restrictions (35 405 [73%]),\u201d the study\u2019s authors wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The authors also claimed that of Aid Access clients seeking to self-manage their abortions, \u201ca higher proportion of those requesting advance provision were 30 years or older (34% vs 27%; P &lt; .001), self-identified as White (67% vs 39%; P &lt; .001), had no children (75% vs 48%; P &lt; .001), lived in an urban region (82% vs 77%; P &lt; .001), and lived in a region with a poverty rate less than the national average (38% vs 31%; P &lt; .001).\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NBC News wrote:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>After the Supreme Court\u2019s Dobbs decision leaked \u2014 which indicated that the court planned to overturn Roe v. Wade\u2026requests spiked from about 25 per day, on average, to nearly 250, the study found. After the official Dobbs decision, Aid Access received about 90 requests per day. Requests spiked again \u2014 to an average of 172 per day \u2014 in April 2023, after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/supreme-court\/drugmaker-asks-supreme-court-block-abortion-pill-ruling-rcna79694\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposing court rulings<\/a> made it unclear whether mifepristone would still be available.<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_304562\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<div id=\"attachment_304562\" style=\"width: 845px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-304562\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-304562\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Aid-Access-study-on-advanced-provision-of-abortion-pills.jpg\" alt=\"Aid Access study on advanced provision of abortion pills\" width=\"835\" height=\"751\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Aid-Access-study-on-advanced-provision-of-abortion-pills.jpg 835w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Aid-Access-study-on-advanced-provision-of-abortion-pills-300x270.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Aid-Access-study-on-advanced-provision-of-abortion-pills-700x630.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Aid-Access-study-on-advanced-provision-of-abortion-pills-768x691.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Aid-Access-study-on-advanced-provision-of-abortion-pills-500x450.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 835px) 100vw, 835px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-304562\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aid Access study on advance provision of abortion pills<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The cross-sectional study was approved by the University of Texas, Austin institutional review board (IRB), where the study\u2019s lead author\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/searchresults?author=Abigail+R.+A.+Aiken&amp;q=Abigail+R.+A.+Aiken\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Abigail R. A. Aiken, PhD,<\/a>\u00a0is associated. Aiken also obtained funding for the research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdvance provision is something that people in the United States seem to need or want, and it\u2019s particularly pronounced in states that are considering, or may in the future, enact restrictions or bans regarding abortion,\u201d Aiken told NBC News.<\/p>\n<p>According to the media outlet, \u201cAiken said Aid Access is still getting advance provision requests, which are now <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/skirting-state-laws-abortion-pill-basements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filled by U.S.-based providers<\/a>\u00a0who live in states with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-dispensaries-increase-roes-reversal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shield laws<\/a>\u00a0that protect prescribers from facing legal ramifications for prescribing abortion medication to patients who live in states where abortion is restricted,\u201d NBC News also reported.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FDA: Advance Provision Risky<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While many abortion industry actors and their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ms-magazine-editor-advanced-provision-abortion-pills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media allies,<\/a> including Aid Access,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortionist-scheme-dispense-pills-before-pregnancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advocate<\/a>\u00a0for the idea of shipping women (or teens) abortion pills\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ms-magazine-editor-advanced-provision-abortion-pills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>in advance<\/em><\/a> of a verified pregnancy (often referred to as advance provision of abortion pills), the FDA has warned that the practice is quite risky.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/10\/31\/advance-provision-fda-00064075\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> reported that \u201cThe FDA said health providers prescribing abortion medication to people who aren\u2019t pregnant are acting without its authorization and that the practice is potentially dangerous for patients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FDA spokesperson told POLITICO that if mifepristone, which stops the flow of hormones supporting a fetus in the uterus, were prescribed before a patient is pregnant, providers wouldn\u2019t be able to properly oversee care to ensure safety and effectiveness. Abortion medication is regulated more tightly by the FDA than other drugs, restricting how the regimen can be prescribed,\u201d the media outlet wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[T]he FDA is concerned that if patients were to take mifepristone weeks or months after getting a prescription filled, a medical professional may not be able to assess if a pregnancy is intrauterine or ectopic or date pregnancies properly. The drug is only approved through 70 days gestation for abortions,\u201d Politico added.<\/p>\n<p>Live Action News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortionist-scheme-dispense-pills-before-pregnancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a>\u00a0documented how Big Abortion\u2019s media darling\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-industry-financial-conflicts-interest-politicians-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. Daniel Grossman<\/a>, an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-unbiased-fact-checkers-anything-but\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortionist<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CaroleNovielli\/status\/1437141569384161281\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ties<\/a>\u00a0to an organization recently funded by the abortion pill\u2019s manufacturer, had promoted the unapproved and dangerous idea that abortionists should give women the abortion pill\u00a0<em>before<\/em> they are even pregnant in a thread on Twitter\/X in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Grossman understood then that abortion pills have risk, because in the same <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrDGrossman\/status\/1433459005897297920\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thread<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 almost as a way to inoculate himself from culpability \u2014 Grossman points out, \u201c[\u2026]<strong>there are some people who are not good candidates for advance provision<\/strong>, including those taking blood thinners or who have a bleeding disorder.\u201d (emphasis added)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople who are at high risk of an ectopic pregnancy should ideally have an ultrasound before using medication abortion. So folks who have had an ectopic pregnancy in the past or who\u2019ve had surgery on their fallopian tubes shouldn\u2019t get advance provision,\u201d Grossman also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DrDGrossman\/status\/1433459020032000004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DrDGrossman\/status\/1433459022779269127?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">added<\/a>, \u201cThere are a few other rare conditions that are contraindicated for medication abortion, including chronic adrenal failure, inherited porphyria, long-term steroid therapy, or allergy to the meds. Advance provision isn\u2019t a good option for these folks either.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Aid Access study did not specify whether they ruled out any such \u201ccontraindications\u201d or whether they warned women of any potential dangers in taking the abortion drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Aid Access study authors suggested advance provision of abortion drugs be available \u201cfor racial and ethnic minority groups and marginalized groups\u201d among others, joining the growing list of <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bad-actors-industry-abortion-pills-arent-pregnant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bad Actors<\/a> potentially flouting FDA safety regulations to expand abortion and line their pockets with profits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/tell-congress-stop-the-doj-from-targeting-pro-life-americans\/?utm_campaign=doj_petition&amp;utm_medium=lan_website\"><b><i>The DOJ put a pro-life grandmother in jail this Christmas for protesting the killing of preborn children.
