(Newsbusters MRC<\/a>) A Republican lawmaker is calling for an investigation into Google after its infamous maps service, Google Maps, “incorrectly” removed a pregnancy center.<\/p>\n

In a fiery\u00a0op-ed<\/a>\u00a0for Yellowhammer, Rep. Jerry Carl (R-AL) said he issued a letter to Google CEO Sundar Pichai demanding the tech giant release similar instances of inexplicable censorship. \u201cWoke corporations have been getting away with silencing conservative voices and values for a long time, and I have had enough,\u201d\u00a0Carl<\/a>\u00a0declared. Last week, Google Maps could not locate D.C.\u2019s Capitol Hill Crisis Pregnancy Center until The Daily Signal\u00a0pointed<\/a>\u00a0it out to the tech giant. When MRC Free Speech America reached out to Google, the company\u00a0claimed<\/a>\u00a0that the listing \u201cwas incorrectly removed and we have since reinstated it.\u201d Rep. Carl, however, is pushing to hold Google accountable.<\/p>\n

In his op-ed, Carl emphasized Google\u2019s alleged mistake is not something to simply let slide. \u201cAlthough the clinic is now back on the map, I sent a letter to Mr. Pichai, the CEO of Google, to express my concerns as to why the listing was removed in the first place and if there are other similar situations that have not yet been brought to light,\u201d he wrote. Carl further noted the seriousness of the situation. \u201cPro-life clinics should be listed on Google Maps without being removed under any circumstance, as women\u2019s health and protecting the lives of the unborn is incredibly important to millions of Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Daily Signal reported that before last Monday, users who searched for D.C.\u2019s Capitol Hill Crisis Pregnancy Center were met with results for a Maryland pro-life pregnancy center and Planned Parenthood\u2019s Carol Whitehill Moses Center. Rep. Carl was not impressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving the pregnancy center\u2019s location removed from Google Maps is a threat to women\u2019s and children\u2019s health,\u201d he wrote. \u201cIt\u2019s even worse to re-direct someone to the location of a clinic performing abortions.\u201d<\/p>\n
