Bumble, a dating site based in Austin, has openly positioned itself as a pro-abortion business, even going so far as to create a fund to support their employees&#8217; abortion-related travel. It\u2019s not entirely surprising; after all, it\u2019s cheaper to pay for a pregnant employee to kill their preborn children than it is to support them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tRzxQEYvX3A?si=3s2aywVAoa5ijqvo\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The brief is being filed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/reproductiverights.org\/case\/zurawski-v-texas-abortion-emergency-exceptions\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zurawski v. Texas<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> suit, in which a group of women \u2013 led by lead plaintiff Amanda Zurawski \u2013 claim the state&#8217;s laws protecting preborn children put their lives at risk. Zurawski claimed she needed an abortion after being diagnosed with cervical incompetence at 18 weeks; though the doctors treating her were neglectful in their duties, Zurawski did not need an abortion. An induced abortion \u2014 the intentional killing of the baby \u2014 has never been the standard treatment for an incompetent cervix.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMany times, if infection is ruled out, women can be treated with a stitch, called a cerclage, which is placed in her cervix to hold the unborn baby in until he or she can survive outside the mother,\u201d Dr. Christina Francis, board member and CEO-elect of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/five-women-texas-pro-life-abortion\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">previously explained<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Live Action News. \u201cAn attentive physician should be able to detect signs of infection early and, if present, provide the appropriate treatment \u2013 which would be induction of labor. This treatment is not prevented by any abortion restriction in the country.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, the lawsuit is asking for the state of Texas to create a \u201cbinding interpretation\u201d of the already-existing medical exceptions in the law, and allow doctors to exercise \u201cgood faith judgment\u201d in committing abortions.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Numerous other Texas-based companies signed onto Bumble\u2019s brief, including South by Southwest, Zilker Properties, ATX Television Festival, and more.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe feel it\u2019s our duty not just to provide our workforce with access to reproductive health care, but to speak out \u2013 and speak loudly \u2013 against the retrogression of women\u2019s rights,\u201d Bumble founder and CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texomashomepage.com\/top-news\/texas-businesses-say-abortion-ban-costs-state-nearly-15-billion-a-year\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cTexas\u2019s confusing medical exceptions increase business costs, drive away talent, and threaten workforce diversity and well-being.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The brief cites <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/iwpr.org\/texas-abortion-ban-and-other-restrictions-cost-the-state-economy-almost-15-billion-per-year\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">research<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the Institute for Women\u2019s Policy Research (IWPR), which claimed that pro-life laws cost billions of dollars across the country by reducing labor force participation and required time off from work. In Texas specifically, IWPR said the law will cost $15 billion. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTexas\u2019 abortion ban is a giant step backwards and will impede women\u2019s economic and social progress. Restrictions like these will also have a devastating impact on state economies and the financial security of women and their families,\u201d Dr. C. Nicole Mason, IWPR President and CEO, said in a press release. \u201cTexas is restricting its own economic growth in its quest to restrict women\u2019s freedom.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But this research is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/aborting-human-beings-economy-groups\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two years old<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, predating the fall of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and what goes unsaid by both Bumble and IWPR itself is that it merely affirms the prevalence of pregnancy discrimination in the workplace. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Businesses have no reason to be accommodating and supportive of pregnant employees when they can merely pressure them into an abortion instead. Indeed, companies like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/settlement-lawsuit-walmart-pregnant-employees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Walmart<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/google-employee-maternity-leave-return-pregnancy-discrimination\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Google<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/nike-discriminated-pregnant\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nike<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/settlement-reached-ups-pregnancy-discrimination-case\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UPS<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-dark-pregnancy-discrimination\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planned Parenthood<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have all been accused of pushing women out of their jobs for becoming pregnant. In the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pregnant-air-force-abort-discharged-changed\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">military<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, pregnant women say they have been pressured to abort or face losing their jobs. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/nyc-mayor-bloomberg-pregnant-employee-kill-it\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Politicians<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pregnancy-discrimination-woman-loses-job\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pharmaceutical<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> companies, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/san-antonio-woman-sues-employer-alleges-forced-abortion-wrongful-death\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">car dealerships<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and countless others have attempted to force pregnant women into abortions under threat of job loss.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So yes, women either have abortions or are forced to leave the workforce \u2013 because pregnancy discrimination is rampant.
