{"id":301772,"date":"2023-11-18T11:25:18","date_gmt":"2023-11-18T17:25:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=301772"},"modified":"2023-11-17T10:37:06","modified_gmt":"2023-11-17T16:37:06","slug":"wyoming-abortion-business-closing-30-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wyoming-abortion-business-closing-30-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Wyoming abortion business closing its doors after 30 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women\u2019s Health and Family Care Clinic in Jackson, Wyoming, will be closing its doors December 15, 2023, after committing abortions for 30 years. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyomingpublicmedia.org\/health\/2023-11-13\/jacksons-only-abortion-provider-shutting-its-doors-due-to-high-costs\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a local news source<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customers were recently mailed a letter about the impending closure of the abortion facility that has seen abortion clients from across Western Wyoming and Eastern Idaho.\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The closure means that only one abortion business remains in the state, located in Casper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The letter states, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWith the rising costs of overhead, including rent, labor, and supplies, our private practice is no longer sustainable. We have had the privilege of serving the community for over 30 years and plan to continue doing so, just at different locations.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reportedly, the abortionists plan to stay in the community. Wyoming Public Media notes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>For half of them, this means establishing private practices. That includes Dr. Giovannina Anthony, who is at\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/891khol.org\/wyomings-recent-abortion-ban-is-reversed-for-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">the forefront of the fight to try and keep abortion access legal<\/a>\u00a0in Wyoming, but also Dr. Doug George \u2014 who says in the letter that he plans on seeing patients in 2024.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>The physicians transitioning to St. John\u2019s Family Medicine are Dr. Laura Vignaroli and Dr. Katie Noyes, one of the region\u2019s only other medical abortion providers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abortion is currently legal in Wyoming because the state\u2019s recent protections for preborn children have been blocked in the courts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zVk1qM1El9o?si=MAv8pCHii60j1kxj\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As previously <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/judge-blocks-wyoming-law-days-effect\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Live Action News, on March 20, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon allowed House Bill 152 to go into effect<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bill protected preborn children from abortion, but included exceptions for rape, incest, a \u201clethal\u201d fetal anomaly, or to save the life or health of the mother. Teton County District Court Judge Melissa Owens <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blocked the newly-passed law just days after it was enacted, which made abortion legal within the state again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wyoming also had a first-in-the-nation <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/judge-blocks-wyoming-law-abortion-drugs\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ban<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on killing preborn children via the abortion pill, signed in March. It was set to be implemented on July 1 and would make it illegal to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cprescribe, dispense, distribute, sell or use any drug for the purpose of procuring or performing an abortion.\u201d Anyone found guilty of violating the law, except the pregnant woman, would be charged with a misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in prison and a $9,000 fine. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The federal judge paused these protections for preborn children in June.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Teton County judge will weigh in on the future of abortion in the state of Wyoming at a hearing scheduled for December 14. The Women\u2019s Health and Family Care clinic intends to close the following day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/walgreens-cvs-petition\/\"><img decoding=\"async\"
