The ACLU and Planned Parenthood oppose abortion clinic oversight bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><div id=\"attachment_3055\" style=\"width: 166px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3055\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-3055 \" style=\"margin: 10px 5px 10px 15px;\" title=\"Kermit_Gosnell_mug\" alt=\"Abortionist Kermit Gosnell\" src=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Kermit_Gosnell_mug1-150x150.jpg\" width=\"156\" height=\"170\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Abortionist Kermit Gosnell<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In response to the Grand Jury Report which investigated Dr. Kermit Gosnell, Pennsylvania State Rep. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.repbaker.com\/NewsItem.aspx?NewsID=11026\" target=\"_blank\">Matt Baker<\/a> introduced a bill that holds abortion clinics to the same standards as ambulatory surgical facilities, including the requirement of a nurse\u2019s presence during procedures.<\/p>\n<p>Gosnell is the abortion doctor who, according to District Attorney <a href=\"http:\/\/abclocal.go.com\/wpvi\/story?section=news\/local&amp;id=7906881\" target=\"_blank\">Seth Williams<\/a>, \u201cInduced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, eighth month of pregnancy and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord.\u201d He is facing eight murder charges for the deaths of seven babies and one woman, Karnamaya Mongar, a patient. Gosnell is also named in multiple civil suits, including one concerning the death of a young woman following an abortion.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3057   alignleft\" style=\"margin: 10px 15px 10px 5px;\" title=\"pp-aclu\" alt=\"ACLU lobbyist Andy Hoover and Sari Stevens of Planned Parenthood.\" src=\"http:\/\/liveaction.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/pp-aclu.jpg\" width=\"250\" height=\"174\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While the need for regulation is clear, the ACLU and Planned Parenthood are strongly opposing the bill. In a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/video\/video.php?v=1770429134791&amp;oid=75993679952&amp;comments\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a> posted on Facebook, Andy Hoover, legislative director of the ACLU of Pennsylvania, and Sari Stevens, executive director of Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates, complained that the bill is an attempt to put abortion providers out of business. This complaint, however, contradicts sworn testimony.<\/p>\n<p>On page 162, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phila.gov\/districtattorney\/grandjury_womensmedical.html\" target=\"_blank\">Grand Jury Report<\/a> states, \u201cThe legitimate abortion providers who testified before the Grand Jury told us that they already comply with standards as demanding as those for ASFs [ambulatory surgical facilities]. Abortion rights advocates told us the same thing &#8211; that licensing abortion clinics as ASFs would not be burdensome because clinics that are members of NAF, or associated with Planned Parenthood, already comply with the highest standards of care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What then are the ACLU and Planned Parenthood complaining about? Did the \u201clegitimate\u201d abortion providers lie under oath? Did the pro-abortion activists lie?\u00a0 Maybe the ACLU and Planned Parenthood have ulterior motives. What happened to all their concern for women\u2019s health?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy do they feel that they should not have to undergo the same patient health safety standards as other facilities, this just defies logic. People go in to have anesthesia and surgical abortions and you\u2019re saying there shouldn\u2019t even be a nurse? It doesn\u2019t make sense,\u201d Rep. Baker told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politicspa.com\/aclu-planned-parenthood-hb-574-will-close-clinics\/23672\/\" target=\"_blank\">PoliticsPA<\/a>. \u201cThat just shows how out of touch, and unrealistic and uncaring, quite frankly, that they are towards the very women that they seem to be saying would be hurt by this legislation,\u201d he added. \u201cI would say that they\u2019re hurting women physically as evident by the atrocities witnessed at the Gosnell abortion clinic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Can anyone really be surprised by the reaction of the ACLU and Planned Parenthood?
