Indi is fighting mitochondrial disease, a condition that has left her needing critical care. Doctors at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nottingham University Hospital\u2019s NHS Foundation Trust are arguing that Indi should be taken off life support and her ventilator, but her parents are fighting these wishes, arguing instead that their baby is fighting an infection from being in the hospital.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During a hearing Monday, a doctor advocating for Indi\u2019s treatment to be discontinued<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/indi-gregory-keeping-dying-baby-on-ventilator-will-prolong-matters-doctor-tells-high-court-judge-12981038\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">told the judge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The terrible reality is that she is dying,\u201d saying that\u00a0 &#8220;further ventilation&#8221; would &#8220;prolong matters.\u201d Doctors had also previously defended removing Indi\u2019s life support because she was in pain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indi\u2019s parents are refusing to accept this and have vowed to continue fighting for their daughter.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe as a family are prepared to do whatever it takes to fight for the life of our beautiful daughter, Indi,\u201d Gregory said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-12590449\/Father-gravely-ill-Indi-Gregory-says-takes-amid-High-Court-battle-seven-month-olds-life.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Indi has been in hospital all her young life, and she has had ups and downs, but during the good times she has been on a normal ward, able to breathe by herself and babble happily.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"molvideoplayer\" title=\"MailOnline Embed Player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/embed\/video\/3016921.html\" width=\"698\" height=\"573\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gregory continued: &#8220;Our daughter responds to us, and on her good days she is babbling, making noises, moving all her limbs. She can definitely experience happiness. She cries like a normal baby. We know she is disabled, but you don&#8217;t just let disabled people die. We just want to give her a chance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gregory also argued against the idea that Indi should be removed from life support because she is in pain. &#8220;You have only got one life. You have to go through a little bit of pain to carry on with that life,\u201d he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-england-derbyshire-67054598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indi\u2019s is not the first case in which the NHS has refused life-saving treatment with the argument that the patient would die anyway. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/remembering-charlie-gard-died-court-battle-life-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlie Gard<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a little boy with<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> RRM2B mitochondrial depletion syndrome<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> died in 2017 after the NHS refused to offer him continuing treatment, despite desperate pleas from his family. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just recently, a young woman known as S.T. <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/british-teen-dies-nhs-refuses-treatment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also died<\/a> after the NHS declined to continue her treatment, despite her desire to continue fighting for her life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/stop-planned-parenthood\/?utm_campaign=sex_ed_petition&amp;utm_medium=LAN&amp;utm_source=website\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-295788\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Stop-PP-From-Sexualizing-Kids970x250-blur-700x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Stop-PP-From-Sexualizing-Kids970x250-blur-700x180.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Stop-PP-From-Sexualizing-Kids970x250-blur-300x77.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Stop-PP-From-Sexualizing-Kids970x250-blur-768x198.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Stop-PP-From-Sexualizing-Kids970x250-blur-500x129.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Stop-PP-From-Sexualizing-Kids970x250-blur.jpg 970w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One couple in the United Kingdom has vowed to do \u201cwhatever it takes\u201d as they fight the government for the life of their young daughter.\u00a0 Dean Gregory and Claire Staniforth are in a court battle over the life of their daughter, seven-month-old Indi Gregory.
