But when you&#8217;re listening to music, keep your ears tuned in, and you might find some deeper messages from artists you never expected. Wade<\/em>. Yet in his song, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/video-eminem-river-abortion-men\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">River<\/a>,&#8221; he still discusses how an abortion negatively affected him.<\/p>\n<p>In the song, Eminem pressures his girlfriend to have an abortion, but quickly grapples with regret and guilt afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t keep my lies straight, but I made you terminate my baby; This love triangle left us in a wreck, tangled,\u201d he raps. \u201cWhat else can I say? Frontman Ben Folds said he wasn&#8217;t trying to make a particular political statement, but wanted to express the emotions he experienced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a very sad thing, but I didn\u2019t really want to write the song from any kind of political standpoint or make a statement,&#8221; he said in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastemagazine.com\/music\/ben-folds\/ben-folds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview with Paste<\/a>. &#8220;I just wanted to reflect on what it feels like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 25px;\"><em>As weeks went by, it showed that she was not fine<br \/>\nThey told me, &#8220;Son, it&#8217;s time to tell the truth&#8221;<br \/>\nAnd she broke down and I broke down<br \/>\n&#8216;Cause I was tired of lying<\/em><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wt5EHAqhR1c?si=LJuE6dMbrZ2kcFXS\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>&#8220;Slide,&#8221; by the Goo Goo Dolls<\/h3>\n<p>Alt-rock band the Goo Goo Dolls, fronted by Johnny Reznik, had a major hit with the romantic song &#8220;Iris,&#8221; which was featured on the soundtrack for the film &#8220;City of Angels,&#8221; The band quickly followed it up with another massive hit, &#8220;Slide.&#8221; Yet their sophomore hit had a <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/the-oft-misinterpreted-meaning-behind-the-goo-goo-dolls-slide-speaks-volumes-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">less romantic meaning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you really sit and listen to the lyrics,\u201d Reznik said on VH1 Storytellers, \u201cthe song is actually about these two teenage kids and the girlfriend gets pregnant&#8230; They\u2019re trying to decide whether she should get an abortion or if they should get married or what should go on. And I don\u2019t think a lot of people got that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 25px;\"><em>Don&#8217;t you love the life you killed?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The priest is on the phone<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Your father hit the wall<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Your ma disowned you<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 25px;\"><em>Don&#8217;t supposed I&#8217;ll ever know<\/em><br \/>\n<em>What it means to be a man<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It&#8217;s somethin&#8217; I can&#8217;t change<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I&#8217;ll live around it<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yP4qdefD2To?si=Ka0zGJ8Dez4on5x_\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>&#8220;The Freshmen,&#8221; by the Verve Pipe<\/h3>\n<p>In &#8220;The Freshmen,&#8221; rock band the Verve Pipe discusses a love triangle which results in an abortion, which then ultimately drives the girl to commit suicide. Written by frontman Brian Vander Ark, the song is based on a real-life experience, though the real-life woman thankfully did not end her own life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I had this idea of a short story that pertained to me and a friend of mine who had dated the same girl and kind of went back and forth with her \u2013 I dated her for a while and then we broke up and he dated her and then I dated her again,&#8221; he told <a href=\"https:\/\/americansongwriter.com\/the-freshman-by-the-verve-pipe-behind-the-song\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Songwriter<\/a>. &#8220;And then one of us got her pregnant and she had an abortion. Neither one of us knew who the father was. So, that\u2019s where the truth ends. And poetic license took over and had her commit suicide. But she didn\u2019t in real life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1umEXpGHc0E?si=S26SXs0egCP-0ewY\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>&#8220;Miracle,&#8221; by Whitney Houston<\/h3>\n<p>One of the greatest vocalists of all time, Whitney Houston sang about the value of life in one touching song \u2014 and insinuates how, through abortion, that life is thrown away. The song begins with Houston singing, &#8220;How could I throw away a miracle? \/ How could I face another day? \/ It&#8217;s all of my doing \/ I made a choice \/ And today, I pay,&#8221; and later in the song, adding, &#8220;Nothing should matter \/ not when love grows inside you \/ The choice is yours \/ there&#8217;s a miracle in store.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Houston <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=TLADAAAAMBAJ&amp;pg=PA57#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">later said<\/a> she didn&#8217;t specifically mean to put out a pro-life song, but that she also felt people take life for granted. &#8220;I didn&#8217;t sing it with that in mind,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I think about the air we breathe, the earth we live on. I think about our children. I think about a lot of things, things God put here for us to have, things that we need and we take for granted. I think all of these things are miracles and I think we should try to take better care of them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZAdi3LIW898?si=oM-CGhghdnuaROUu\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>&#8220;All Things Go&#8221; and &#8220;Autobiography,&#8221; by Nicki Minaj<\/h3>\n<p>Hip-hop star Nicki Minaj has opened up about her abortion in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/nicki-minaj-opens-up-about-abortion-says-it-haunted-me-all-my-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">several songs<\/a>, and though she describes herself as &#8220;pro-choice,&#8221; she also said the abortion haunted her all her life. In &#8220;Autobiography,&#8221; her pain and guilt over the abortion is clear:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 25px;\"><em>Please baby forgive me, mommy was young<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Mommy was too busy, tryn\u2019a have fun<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Now I don\u2019t pat myself on the back, for sending you back<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Cause God knows, I was better than that<\/em><br \/>\n<em>To conceive you then leave you, the concept alone seems evil<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I\u2019m trapped in my conscience I adhered to the nonsense<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Listened to people, who told me, I wasn\u2019t ready for you<\/em><br \/>\n<em>But how the\u2026 (f*ck) would they know, what I was ready to do?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And of course, it wasn\u2019t your fault<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It\u2019s like I feel it in the air, I hear you sayin\u2019<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u201cMommy don\u2019t cry, can\u2019t you see I\u2019m right here?\u201d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I gotta let you know, what you mean to me<\/em><br \/>\n<em>When I\u2019m sleeping, I see you in my dreams with me<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Wish I could touch your little face, or just hold your little hand<\/em><br \/>\n<em>If it\u2019s part of God\u2019s plan, maybe we can meet again<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In &#8220;All Things Go,&#8221; she discusses how her child would be a teenager now. &#8220;My child with Aaron \/ would&#8217;ve have been sixteen, any minute,&#8221; she says. &#8220;So in some ways I feel like &#8216;Caiah \/ is the both of them \/ It&#8217;s like he&#8217;s &#8216;Caiah&#8217;s little angel, looking over him.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gVUF9xMn4Lc?si=wAYSVib7r5i7baxZ\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>&#8220;My Special Child,&#8221; by Sin\u00e9ad O&#8217;Connor<\/h3>\n<p>O&#8217;Connor recently <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/irish-sinead-oconnor-died-56\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed away<\/a>, but she left a powerful legacy behind her. That includes opening up about being pressured to have an abortion by record executives in her autobiography, which she refused to do. \u201cYour record company has spent \u00a3100,000 recording your album. You owe it to them not to have this baby,\u201d she said the doctor told her, and continued, \u201cFurthermore, he informed me that if I flew while pregnant, my baby would be damaged. And anyway, if I was going to be a musician I ought not to have babies because a woman shouldn\u2019t leave her baby to go on tour and at the same time a child can\u2019t be taken on tour.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She did, however, have one abortion, which she wrote about in her song, &#8220;My Special Child.&#8221; In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spin.com\/2015\/09\/sinead-oconnor-interview-spin-30-cover-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview<\/a> with Spin Magazine, she said she didn&#8217;t really want the abortion, and that the pregnancy had originally been planned.
