{"id":298499,"date":"2023-09-13T16:46:14","date_gmt":"2023-09-13T21:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=298499"},"modified":"2023-09-12T17:54:35","modified_gmt":"2023-09-12T22:54:35","slug":"abortion-lawyer-perjuring-congress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-lawyer-perjuring-congress\/","title":{"rendered":"Abortion lawyer accused of perjuring herself before Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2023\/09\/11\/exclusive-abortion-lawyer-accused-perjuring-herself-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Signal<\/a>) Republican Congressmen Chip Roy of Texas and Mike Johnson of Louisiana are calling on a controversial abortion lawyer to explain whether she \u201cviolated the law by providing misleading information to Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/prochoice.org\/staff\/talcott-camp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Talcott Camp<\/a> is the chief legal and strategy officer at the National Abortion Federation, where she oversees the organization\u2019s legal work and \u201cplays a major role\u201d in its strategic decision making.<\/p>\n<p>She <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2023\/05\/16\/gop-highlights-attacks-on-pregnancy-centers-pro-lifers-under-biden-admin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously came under fire<\/a> for shockingly graphic remarks she allegedly made at the National Abortion Federation convention in 2014 or 2015, recorded by pro-life activist David Daleiden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m like\u2014oh my God! I get it,\u201d she allegedly said, referring to crushing the skulls of unborn babies. \u201cWhen the skull is broken, that\u2019s really sharp! I get it! I understand why people are talking about getting that skull out, that calvarium.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In May, Roy pressed Camp to explain her remarks during the \u201cRevisiting the Implications of the FACE Act\u201d hearing. Camp claimed the videos were heavily edited and said it would be \u201cimpossible\u201d for her to know if she made these comments. She also accused those who publicized the videos of her alleged remarks of stoking \u201ca massive uptick in violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Chip Roy forces Dem witness Talcott Camp to address her alleged comments on crushing babies skulls: &quot;Oh my God! I get it. When the skull is broken, that\u2019s really sharp!\u2019 Did you say that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s impossible to know, congressman,\u201d she responded, adding later, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t know,\u201d Roy repeated. \u201cYou don\u2019t know if you talked about the crushing of the skull of a baby? You don\u2019t remember having said something like that? I\u2019m pretty confident I\u2019ve never said something like that. I\u2019m quite confident my colleagues here have never said something like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now Roy and Johnson are suggesting that she may have perjured herself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of your testimony, you questioned the authenticity of statements recorded on video that you had previously made and that the National Abortion Federation had certified as authentic in court proceedings,\u201d the congressmen said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNaturally, these conflicting facts and statements raise serious questions regarding the accuracy of your testimony,\u201d they continued. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2023\/08\/09\/fbi-director-lied-oath-memo-targeting-radical-traditional-catholics-new-memo-suggests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Providing false and misleading information<\/a> to Congress violates the law. It is our goal to give you the opportunity to correct the record and ensure that the American people and their congressional representatives have a complete understanding of the truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The National Abortion Federation submitted court documents on June 1, 2017, related to the lawsuit NAF v. Center for Medical Progress, the Republicans noted.
