Last week, five pro-life activists were <\/span>convicted<\/span><\/a> of conspiracy against rights and FACE Act violations stemming from an October 2020 <\/span>rescue action<\/span><\/a> at the D.C.-based Washington Surgi-Center, which is operated by abortionist <\/span>Cesare Santangelo<\/span><\/a>. The trial for the remaining four defendants who have been indicted in relation to this particular <\/span>rescue action<\/span><\/a> \u2013 Jonathan Darnel, Joan Andrews Bell, Paulette Harlow, and Jean Marshall \u2013 is set to begin this week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although they will have a new jury, the remaining four defendants will appear before <\/span>Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly<\/span><\/a>, the same judge who presided over the trial of the five recently convicted defendants. During the trial of the first groups of defendants, Judge Kollar-Kotelly disallowed the admission of Live Action\u2019s <\/span>InHuman<\/span><\/a> video into evidence, <\/span>calling<\/span><\/a> it \u201cgossip from propagandists.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She also seemed to <\/span>deny<\/span><\/a> the existence of federal legislation which regulates abortion, specifically, the <\/span>Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act<\/span><\/a> of 2003, which was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first five defendants are currently <\/span>incarcerated<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>awaiting sentencing<\/span><\/a>. Via a PAAU social media <\/span>update<\/span><\/a>, Lauren Handy sent out this message:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m doing well, and I\u2019m right where I\u2019m supposed to be. I\u2019ve already been able to reach out to people I\u2019ve encountered and provide comfort and counseling. Thank you for everyone\u2019s support.<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The message, among others from Handy, is continued on PAAU\u2019s <\/span>website<\/span><\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not just “sad” when an unborn person is murdered, it is acutely devastating. Someone needs to feel and mourn deeply. Someone needs to love to the point of supposed uselessness.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Someone needs to Rescue.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Another social media <\/span>update<\/span><\/a> contained a statement from Herb Geraghty:<\/span><\/p>\n

Please don\u2019t worry about me.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve quickly developed the skill of \u201clooking on the bright side\u201d to potentially a delusional degree where despite the circumstances, I really do feel at peace. \u2026<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Thank you to everyone who has been speaking out on our behalf. As you do that though, please remember to center the real victims in this injustice. While we are in here, every day unborn children are being killed by the thousands in this country. \u2026<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
