Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri (PPSLR) is once again<\/a> offering free vasectomies to underprivileged men, in a mobile facility they have named the “Nutcracker.”<\/p>\n

The Daily Mail reported<\/a> that 100 free vasectomies would be offered at three of the affiliate’s locations, for uninsured or underinsured men, in honor of World Vasectomy Day. Dr. Esgar Guarin, a reproductive health doctor who specializes in vasectomies, will come to the locations with “the Nutcracker,” and physicians will perform the vasectomies using a no-needle, no-scalpel procedure, allowing the men to go home the same day. “It’s worse to go to the dentist, I always tell my patients,” Guarin said.<\/p>\n

“We provide vasectomies all year round at Planned Parenthood, but what we’re doing again this year is we are providing vasectomies at no cost to folks who don’t have insurance or have insurance that does not cover the procedure at three of our locations in Missouri,” Dr. Margaret Baum, who works at Planned Parenthood, told the Springfield News-Leader<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The scheme is one Planned Parenthood orchestrated last fall as well; though the vasectomies are advertised as “free,” Planned Parenthood will actually be helping the men access Medicaid for the procedures, which means taxpayers will be funding the sterilizations. Planned Parenthood, meanwhile, will get paid by the government to sterilize the 100 underprivileged men.<\/p>\n

After the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization<\/em> decision last summer overturned Roe v. Wade<\/em>, there was an increase in men interested in getting vasectomies. It was something Planned Parenthood strongly encouraged, particularly for low-income men \u2014 which is troubling, considering Planned Parenthood’s eugenics-based background<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Low-income Americans have frequently been pressured or coerced into sterilization, something which continues to happen<\/a> to this day. Forced sterilization is also still legal in over 30 states<\/a>. And while men are told they can always reverse the procedure later, if they change their minds, a vasectomy reversal is not always successful<\/a>.<\/p>\n
