The Texas attorney general\u2019s office is facing criticism for purportedly contradicting its previous pro-life advocacy by arguing that a state prison employee\u2019s preborn child wasn\u2019t<\/em> protected by the 14th Amendment before the Supreme Court overturned <\/span>Roe<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The employee, Salia Issa, was reportedly told to wait before leaving her post despite experiencing intense pain she thought was a contraction. She eventually got to the hospital but doctors were unable to find a heartbeat and her baby was delivered stillborn. Her <\/span>lawsuit<\/span><\/a> alleged that the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) \u201csubjected the unborn child to state-occasioned damage to its bodily integrity, thereby violating the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another part argues that the TDCJ \u201cdeprived the unborn child of its right to life, thereby violating the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.\u201d It also claims the TDCJ put the child through a \u201ccruel and inhumane death, whereby the child slowly died in the womb.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
