CNN recently <\/span>claimed<\/span><\/a> that \u201cTexas\u2019 abortion restrictions \u2026 may be fueling a sudden spike in infant mortality as women are forced to carry nonviable pregnancies to term.\u201d The article states, \u201cSome 2,200 infants died in Texas in 2022 \u2013 an increase of 227 deaths, or 11.5%, over the previous year, according to preliminary infant mortality data from the Texas Department of State Health Services.\u201d It adds, \u201cInfant deaths caused by severe genetic and birth defects rose by 21.6%.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

CNN admits that \u201cThe increase in deaths could partly be explained by the fact that more babies are being born in Texas,\u201d and cites a <\/span>report<\/span><\/a> which found that there were nearly 10,000 more births in Texas in 2022 than were anticipated prior to the introduction of that state\u2019s current legal protections for preborn children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the article quickly pivots to blaming Texas\u2019 pro-life laws for the increase in deaths. <\/span><\/p>\n

The article <\/span>quotes<\/span><\/a> Dr. Erika Werner, chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Tufts Medical Center, who said, \u201cWe all knew the infant mortality rate would go up, because many of these terminations were for pregnancies that don\u2019t turn into healthy normal kids. It\u2019s exactly what we all were concerned about.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But \u201cpregnancies\u201d do not \u201cturn into\u201d children at birth through some kind of magical metamorphic process. The preborn are human beings <\/span>from the moment of fertilization<\/span><\/a>, and are very much alive in the womb.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
