Here&#8217;s why."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The New York Times recently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230709052931\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/06\/health\/abortion-misoprostol.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230708182143\/https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/greenjournal\/fulltext\/9900\/effectiveness_of_self_managed_medication_abortion.810.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published in the journal \u201cObstetrics &amp; Gynecology\u201d regarding so-called \u201cself-managed medication abortion.\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230709052931\/https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/07\/06\/health\/abortion-misoprostol.html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the New York Times, \u201cAn overwhelming majority of women were able to end unwanted pregnancies with abortion medications on their own and without additional medical procedures, even if they were well beyond the first trimester[.]\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, this \u201coverwhelming majority\u201d of women who \u201cended unwanted pregnancies\u201d past the first trimester literally refers to a minuscule study sample of <strong>32 women<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Times\u2019 headline, which highlights the alleged effectiveness of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-fawning-misoprostol-only-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">misoprostol-only<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> abortion after the tenth week of gestation, refers to a similarly tiny sample of <strong>36 women<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2020, the most recent year for which comprehensive data is available, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1363\/psrh.12215\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">53%<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the 2,548 abortions completed daily were so-called \u201cmedication\u201d (abortion pill) abortions; in other words, approximately 1,350 preborn lives are ended via the abortion pill every day in the U.S., or 492,911 per year. Drawing conclusions based on the experiences of 32 women \u2013 a number equivalent to approximately .0065% of the total number of women who take the abortion pill annually \u2013 is simply unsound. Drawing conclusions based on a sample of 36 women is no less ridiculous.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dTsUsy30Q8A\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That didn\u2019t stop abortionist <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-survivors-not-pro-life-myth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daniel Grossman<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 who works as a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ibisreproductivehealth.org\/people\/grossman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">senior advisor<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Ibis Reproductive Health, which is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ibisreproductivehealth.org\/funders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">directly funded<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by abortion pill manufacturer Danco Laboratories \u2013 from stating: \u201cThis paper adds to previous research indicating that self-managed abortion with medications is safe and effective, including after 12 weeks of pregnancy.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20230708182143\/https:\/\/journals.lww.com\/greenjournal\/fulltext\/9900\/effectiveness_of_self_managed_medication_abortion.810.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in question followed women in Argentina, Nigeria, and an unnamed Southeast Asian country who sought out the services of so-called \u201cabortion accompaniment\u201d organizations. Women took either the standard mifepristone and misoprostol abortion pill regimen or took misoprostol alone and were followed for three weeks after their ingestion of the abortion-inducing drugs. Gestational ages of the children killed by pill ranged between nine and 22 weeks. The FDA has only approved the abortion pill regimen for use up to 10 weeks in the U.S.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S-lQOooYAs8\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Media <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-fawning-misoprostol-only-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fawning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over flawed studies purporting to prove the safety and efficacy of abortion-inducing drugs is nothing new.
