Abortion advocates in New York are pushing for a pro-abortion amendment to the state constitution in the state’s 2024 election ballot measure. One group is trying to raise over $20 million to convince New Yorkers to support the proposal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Axios reports<\/a> that the \u201camendment would effectively block state lawmakers from passing new laws restricting abortion.\u201d It would ban discrimination on the basis of “ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, and sex” and would create protections for pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive “health care and autonomy.”<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNew Yorkers for Equal Rights, the group spearheading the initiative, aims to raise $20 million to spend on TV and digital ads, direct mail programs, grassroots organizing and voter education, according to a fact sheet viewed by Axios,\u201d reported the news source. \u201cA number of prominent New York Democrats are also involved, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Gov. Kathy Hochul.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, New Yorkers for Equal Rights is partnering with unions and groups, including Planned Parenthood’s issue advocacy arm, the New York Civil Liberties Union, and the state’s NAACP chapter.<\/p>\n

The pro-abortion lawmakers are attempting to stir up fear by engaging in euphemisms such as labeling the horrifying abortion procedures as \u201cwomen\u2019s rights\u201d or \u201cwomen\u2019s reproductive rights.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
